Oh I am still in love with him. I like the main guy more. I'm really bad with names tonite. He's got the greatest smile. I hate falling in love with people in older movies then realizing they are like 40 now. Not that I had a chance anyway, but depressing nonetheless.

The real Duckie, of course.

And, Rachel, the main guy you are referring to is Andrew McCarthy...only one of the most beautiful men to ever walk the Earth. He's one of my loves. I like to refer to him as "My Andrew"...it's quite sad, really. Of course, James Spader is quite the fox, too, but he's no Andrew.

But, yes, anyway, Jon Cryer Duckie is my choice.

Is James Spader the best friend? I forgot about the best friend. He is unbelivably hot. More so then Andew McCarthy, I think, but they are so different its hard to say. Gosh, what a hot cast!

Yes, he's the best friend. To be blonde, he's quite the looker, and very suave. He still is too. You need to see Secretary, if you haven't already. It's one of the best movies I've seen in the past year, and it stars not only James Spader, but also the adorable Maggie Gyllenhaal.

But, anyway, I'm probably more partial to Andrew since I love him so much in all of his movies, especially St. Elmo's Fire, probably my favorite brat pack film.

I canNOT believe I forgot him!!! He is endlessly cute too- isn't he the one with the speech impediment? Jon Cryer talks kind of funny too. Man, a 3-choice poll would've been so much better. This one is a landslide.

I was never sure. Duckie was pretty androgynous. I can't recall 'it' ever being referred to as a he or she. Overall, Duckie is the "It's Pat!" of the dinosaur kingdom.

I'm pretty sure it's a she but I'm not about to go rent The Land Before Time to prove it.

Surely they say it in the movies. Wasn't she taken by a terridaktyl (Am I supposed to know how to spell that?) at one point? That means a phrase along the lines of "We have got to try save him/her!" had to have been said, right? So even if I'm wrong and its not a girl, Duckie's sex is mentioned at some point.
The truth is out there...

Yes, I realize that post made no sense. And Yes, I realize I actually took time to explain why it shouldnt be hard to find the sex of a Land Before Time character.

True...to be honest, I always always always thought that Duckie was a guy. I don't know why, but there must have been something in the movie to have lead me to believe this. I own it on both DVD and VHS (aaaand cue laughter), but I'm too tired from mopping back rooms to figure this out right now.

Three? Try, like eight or nine. That studio is still milking that franchise and the movies haven't been good since, well, the first one.

I thought Nermal's voice was obviously a girl (unlike Big Bird, whose voice is done by a man named Carroll). However, if Bart and all the Simpsons boys can be done by girls, then this means nothing.

Speaking of cartoon conspiracies...why is it that cartoon characters, even when they are supposed to be "human," only have 4 fingers? Is that some un-written cartoon law? My brother pointed this out to me, and I have yet to prove him wrong on this. I always check to see if he's right now.
Why would you do that?

Nermal is definitely a boy.

http://garfield.kgb.cz/garfield.php3?lang=eng&go=gang

"Self-proclaimed "World's Cutest Kitten", Nermal belongs to Jon's parents and often comes to visit the Arbuckle home. Nermal often flaunts his cuteness while he taunts Garfield about his looks and age. "

Has anyone else heard about the new Garfield movie in the works with Bill Murray as the voice of Garfield and Breckin Meyer as Jon? Just thought I'd toss that out there...

Snap...um...I just went to the Land Before Time website, and Ducky is a hermaphrodite or something...read this...

Official Bio:
A small, sweet dinosaur who is one of the most affectionate and caring dinosaurs of all. She pronounces words carefully and never, ever uses contractions! Ducky is a loyal friend and companion who will always think of others before herself - and she just loves to have fun!

DUCKY may look like a duck with his long bill and webbed feet and hands, but he is no duck - he is a Cretaceous Period living PARASAUROLOPHUS. His very distinctive bill and crested head worked like a snorkel and allowed him to breathe while he was underwater. It also served to warm the air before it reached his lungs. Plant lovers, they enjoyed to stay near the water, except when they nested. When their eggs were laid, Ducky and his friends went to a much higher ground and were very good family members!

See, I thought that the sexes were different since one was about Ducky itself and the other about the species, but I went to Cera's (the DEFINITELY female triceratops) and both of her paragraphs contained female pronouns. And yes, they are exactly how I posted them. Very odd...very odd indeed.
