Stereolab
Air
Aphex Twin
Autechre
Massive Attack
The Orb
Pi and Requiem for a Dream
New Order
Depeche Mode (Violator only please)
Orbital

Every time people hear electronic music they immediately think "I can't like this or people will beat me up."
Hey, the 80s weren't that bad. Eminem claimed "Nobody listens to techno."
If he had a tad bit of intellect he'd notice that his music along with most modern crap hop is nothing but techno (Pretty bad techno at that) with words over it.

Good old southern boys shit their pants when they hear it, but I'm here to say a Moog is a beautiful thing!!! Just ask the features.
Why would you do that?

thats bc people usually think about rave music and acid and glow sticks. thats why when people mention electronic music i beat them up. but stuff like stereolab, massive attack, etc. is pretty good stuff. i mean, bjork's homogenic is pretty electronic and its one of my favorite records.

and moogs are the hottest things ever. if i had a penis, i would fuck one.
thank you for being a friend.

I'm a huge IDM fan, so my biggest ones would be

Squarepusher
Aphex Twin
Boards of Canada
Autechre
Plaid
mu-ziq
Akufen

Along with non IDM favorites like:
Air
Daft Punk
Fatboy Slim
Underworld
New Order
Kraftwerk
Chemical Brothers

and lately I've been listening randomly to:
Telepopmusik
Lasgo
Dirty Vegas

To me there is no shame in loving music that is electronic. Its a new art form, still being hashed out, but its exciting stuff.

she's just another ho that i met in the hood
i told her i was crunchy black and it was all good

It's Intelligent Dance Music, Smee. Aparently the line between intelligent and not intelligent dance music is very thin.

I feel as though I should be offended by this, but I'm not.

Yeah, I feel torn on that whole distinction, because

a.) it is the name of the genre. Squarepusher and Autechre aren't exactly drum 'n' bass or big beat or anything else, they are their own thing, and that is IDM.

b.) at the same time "intelligent dance music" is just a pretentious name for a genre of music which implies some sort of superiority over those that aren't into it. I don't like that, so I just say IDM.

Ironic that I'm just responding now, because we just discovered minutes ago that my roommate now enjoys my Squarepusher, in what I consider to be a personal victory borne out of three years of influence: when we met, he owned no recorded music and abhored my electronic music. Now he buys Beck and Coldplay albums and asks to borrow my Boards of Canada cds.

I like a lot of IDM, Will, I just think it's a dumb name. Don't be ashamed.

it depends on what you consider as 'good.' she's never had lesssons and she doesn't know one note from another. but i don't consider that a bad thing. she's free to break and make rules as far as music goes without feeling self conscience. she has insanely good rhythm and she'll tell you in 2 seconds if you're off beat. she can also play guitar, the accordion, a full drum kit, the recorder, and many other instruments that normal kids play. she's recorded alot of different music with alot of people.

i'll stop the bragging mom stuff now.

oh yeah, you've met her before
she's just another ho that i met in the hood
