I love "Elephant" and I believe that it is one of the most solid records I have heard in a while. It is better than "White Blood Cells" and may, in time, surpass "De Stijl" as my favorite White Stripes album. It is amazing.

And the "Seven Nation Army" video is very cool.

yes, one of the most amazing records i have ever heard too. i'll help you out with the individual praise of each track by highlighting some of my favorites:
"black math"-features jack white's voice at its craziest [i have this weird thing for anything (be it voice, a roll of the eyes, or merely facial expression) that suggests insanity in a man]
"ball and biscuit"-serves as a great 7minute display of jack's guitar-playing skills without being annoyingly/unecessarily long...plus its subject matter is okay by me
"little acorns"-what an adorable intro...i always vow to be like the squirrel after that song, such good advice
"girl, you have no faith in medicine"-it includes the word "acetaminophen" in its chorus
and i didn't forget meg...i like her drumming. it's not like i listen to her and say "wow! she's incredible!" her drumming seems to come in simple bursts, nothing fancy. but it goes so well with their style of songs. anything more would seem to me to be overdoing it. and, sadly, i think alot (not all) of the people who do not like the white stripes feel this way because they're too "known." god forbid a band makes it on tv a few times...that must mean they suck. but this is all just my humble opinion.

this album is indeed great. I don't know that I'd go so far as to say that it's my favorite ever, but if i had to pick 10 albums to take with me to an island, it would be on the list. Just for the sheer replayability factor. It's so fun to listen to EVERY time.

i've only skimmed the album at tower and couldn't form an opinion on it. i'm somewhat ambilvalent about the white stripes.

hey. babar was who i first thought of too.

speaking of elephants [to further digress from music talk], my roommates visited nashville zoo this weekend and informed me that they do, indeed, have one elephant. unfortunately, they only keep the elephant for kids to ride on. i smell scandal. who will help me write a letter to the peta? anyone, anyone?

I made it through 3 poos and about 4 vomits before having to turn it off.

Last night's performance of "Seven Nation Army" was amazing, especially the fact that the Stripes had a huge hulking bodyguard standing behind them. Also, to see Meg White & Bill Belamy conversing on the couch at the end of the episode was quite amusing.

conan comes on right after jay leno. and yes, there will be another performance tonight. and thursday night. and friday night. the one last night was good. it kinda seemed to me like they were holding back a little though. jack was looking deathly pale and slightly insane as always, which equals good in my book.

edit: night two of white stripes week was great. they seemed more relaxed. i was surprised to see them play "jolene" instead of a song from "elephant." i think it was a good choice though, because it was unexpected. sorry to be redundant, but ther is no man hotter than jack white. there just isn't.

edit #2: "the hardest button to button, ah-oh!" night 3 has to be my favorite so far. they played wonderfully. jack is completely insane and has the most beautiful voice and smile ever. meg also looked extremely cute tonight.

edit #3: this was my favorite. i love "let's build a home." plus it was nice to hear that snippet of "cannon" as well. such insanity, such talent. meg is so cute. jack is so hot. that conan sculpture they gave him was really weird. overall, i would rank their performances in the order they played them, not best to best.

Just got done watching the white stripes on conan tonight (fri.) and I must say that I was amazed by their performance! This was by far the best performance i've seen, and as weird as it may sound, 7NA was my least favorite of the week. The stripes sound pretty down to earth as well, and yes, their new cd rocks!

"Let's Build A Home" is one of my favorite White Stripes' songs, and to see them completely annihilate everything that I've seen them do this week with that performance was amazing. Jack White slinging his guitar on Conan's desk and ripping it up Hendrix-style was just breathtaking.

I was talking to Carl about this Saturday night but I just don't feel it with these guys. I don't find their live show to be all that inspiring. It's really sloppy and the singing is out of key but you know what... I respect these guys all the same. I'm glad there's a band like this that's popular, that's getting great reviews and can get a full week on Conan (which in Conan weeks is just 4 days, gots to love a job you get paid millions a year to do and only have to work 4 days a week). I might not get the music quite yet, but I love that they're out there.

I was talking to Carl about this Saturday night ...
Geez, nice name dropping, dude.

So, Sina was playing some White Stripes in her car (live Peel Sessions I think) last night and I must say that I'm gonna have to investigate some more of this band. I guess I got turned off by all the hype a year or so ago, but like Brian said, it's great to see a band like this being appreciated. I think we've been progressively moving away from the whole boy band/pop diva thing and even the nu-metal/jock rock thing in the last few years-- moving so slow that maybe we can't really appreciate how much better popular music is today. Of course, we still have TATU or whatever they're called. On the other hand, they're hot foreign lesbians, so I'm not complainin'.
Daigle is all we need to make the night complete

But I might be more interested if they looked more like this when they play.
i didn't navigate that site yet, but are those the same folks who made that "karma chameleon" commercial on vh-1? has anybody seen that thing? it makes me laugh every time i see it.
i have seen those commercials....they crack me up as well......the dancing chameleon makes me laugh......i hope they make more of them.....

yeah, i love the "astro/jack the ripper" combo too. it is wonderful.

and yes, sina, i did miss them at the end. i'm glad to hear that it was amazing though, even though i didn't get to enjoy it. i am seeing them at the closest city (maybe two cities) when they tour for "elephant" for sure though.

and i'm glad to hear that more people are appreciating them/giving them a chance despite all the hype. it's not for everyone, but you'll never know unless you give it a try.

Ah, it's one of my favorites.

So, we all know that I don't care too much about hearing the new White Stripes record. But I might be more interested if they looked more like this when they play. Even better than any White Stripes song, though, is The Moon Song by the Spong Monkeys.
i walk around constantly saying "hello blode! hello food!" and singing the centipede song. rathergood.com is my fave.

if you've not seen these, please do so:

this makes me happy

and this makes me squeel
thank you for being a friend.

forget about the white stripes...who saw blur on craig kilbourn friday night? they played "we've got a file on you" not once, but twice. it was very punk rock.
in other late-night tv performances from friday, pete yorn covered the ramones "i wanna be your boyfriend."

Pete Yorn, yawn... while I enjoyed musicforthemorningafter quite a bit, I'm growing quite tired of his really poor lyrics and adding extra syllables to his words. Plus he just sounds bored.

I just watched the Conan rerun with The White Stripes. The little sketch about NBC that they did was very cute, and I really enjoyed their performance of "Let's Build a Home" with Jack's little trip over to Conan's desk with his guitar. It was quite entertaining in my opinion. Very good show. But, I think I liked the performances of "Seven Nation Army" and "Jolene" more

And, I must say, Meg looked extra extra cute and Jack looked kind of cute as well (even though he's not really the kind of guy I like to look at).
