TOPIC: Exit/In March 5th

I was just wondering if anyone here was planning on going to go see Ben Kweller at Exit/In on March 5th... I guess that's pretty self evident by the topic title... heh.

Well, anyway, I'm planning on being there... My roommate and I love some Ben Kweller. What do you guys think of him?

I'll be there. Cento-Matic is opening. I don't remember much about them, but I remember liking them. Ben Kweller to me seems to be an odd mix of Weezer, Elliot Smith, and something else I can't remember. Should be a fun show...

You said Weezer, Elliot Smith and Ben Folds Five on our road trip last month. I like all three of those bands, but have never been able to get into Ben Kweller. It's not bad, just hasn't really done it for me. Maybe if I could somehow go for free...
I TOTALLY AGREE!

Keith, you are destined to rock. Never forget this.

I agree exactly! Half of his album's songs are pretty good, but the other half just kinda...well, they suck. Regardless, I will be there with posse in effect.

I am looking much more forward to the Clem Snide concert five days later on March 10 (Exit/In also). Their show at the Sutler last year (on the same date) was without any doubt one of the best shows I have ever been witness to. A life of misfortunate will cast itself upon you if fail to see them again. Consider yourself warned.

yeah Ben Kweller is just kind of "eh."

Clem Snide should be awesome. But how are they going to play the exit/in? There were like 10 people at the Sutler show.

I was thinking that myself, but I would prefer less people like the Sutler show. However, the Sutler show was not publicized at all. The Exit/In has a tendency to put the word out.

Oh, and AM Radio will also be opening for Ben Kweller, I hear. If you're not familiar with them, these guys are proof positive that being long-time friends with =w=eezer and being managed by Rivers Cuomo doesn't mean your band still doesn't suck.

Despite that, I'll still be there. I already have tickets, I think.

though i'm not popular or even known amongst the boards, i will be at the ben kweller show hands down. for those of you who think that ben is just "eh, ok", i highly recommend that you go to the show if you can. when i first heard his cd when it came out, i thought it was good, but i wasn't really moved until i saw him live. (haha and i have to admit i was a fan of "little pink stars" by his old band radish back in the day...i think i saw the video on 120 minutes once.) i've seen him twice now and he puts on a really really good show--fun and entertaining, yet intense when the time is right (i.e. "in other words") plus he's just so damn adorable!

I think I speak for everyone here that having a pootie is a great responsibility. Keep it out of light, never get it wet, and never, ever feed it after midnight. If you follow these simple rules you and your pootie will have a long happy life.

So, who went to the show? I'm pretty sure I spotted Mr. Slattery and company. Mr. Dawson, I presume?

I have to say I thought it was highly entertaining for the most part. I'll admit that it bugs me that he's so young, but he just has a really great stage persona in that shy little kid kinda way. I thought about half the songs were fantastic and the other half was just sorta "eh" (to quote the preceeding discussion). I definitely preferred the poppy piano-rock ditties. Anyway, I can honestly say I'm glad I went. I'm even happier about the fact that I missed AM Radio ENTIRELY which increased my enjoyment of the show tenfold. I caught about 7 songs of Centro-Matic, but I just wasn't really feelin' it. They were pretty sleepy right up until the end.

i think i saw some of you features people at the show tonite, but i was too scared to approach and say "hi" (the doorman shooing us out after the show also prohibited friendliness)
i thought it was great--honestly, i think the exit/in has some of the best sound in town. it was my 3rd BK show, but i don't think i can compare one to another--they've all been great in their own way. i was a tad disappointed with the lack of older material (pre sha-sha) but that's alright. i always forget how funny ben can be with his in-between-song-banter. the band sounded tight though, and had fun, and rocked out. and my mom was really really impressed, which is always cool.
go bk!

Yep, Brother Love, the De Novo Dahl e-mail administrator, and myself were in attendance, with microphone in hand of course. Carl...you are sooooo lucky to have missed AM Radio. You couldn't have stirred that shit with a stick. It was god-awful. Really, it was the drummer and the lead singer. I always feel sorry for the guitarists in those emo groups, because they automatically get thrown into my "Sucks" category, when it's really the singer I abhor. Centromatic's first song was great! But, they kind of leveled off after that. They were still good though, I thought. BK was very, very good! His between-song talks were very entertaining. And yes, Beech-Nut is the most superior of the chews in cool-factor, per Mr. Kweller's lecture. Anyway, it was a very good show, especially for $8. What a bargain! Did Centromatic play the Red Rose on Tuesday evening? If so, did anyone on here go?

Ah yes, I haven't heard much about the Boro lately. I assume the Features and management are boycotting? Or, is it merely coincidence?

Neat. It's a shame, because I like the stage at the Boro. I just didn't really care for the place that much. If the Red Rose would raise their stage about a foot or so, the world would be closer to perfection. It always makes me feel bad for being tall, because I know nobody can see behind the first two or three rows. Oh well.

Asshole doormen or not, I'd much prefer to see a show at The Boro than The Red Rose. The Red Rose typically books better bands, but The Boro is still a better room for a rock show.

He would be flattered to hear you say that. He's a big fan. He was right up front and to the left for the whole show. He mentioned something about almost crapping his pants whenever Fred hit the kick drum.

And for the record, I didn't notice the resemblance, but I suppose I wasn't really paying attention.
