Okay, in honor of diet Coke with Lime, I wanted to start this poll. Which is your favorite? I tried to pick the most popular choices.

I have to go with Diet Cherry Coke, but I am very impressed with the new aforementioned flavor. Lemon ain't bad neither. I can't go back to regular diet coke now because of the new flavors.

DDP was my favorite for years, but I got a little burned out.

The vanilla and code red are okay-- but only in diet form-- the regular is too syrupy. Diet MD tastes like bile and diet sprite bores me.

Does anyone care?

Diet Dr. Pepper tastes the most like it's better sugary counterpart, so that's where my vote went. I generally cannot stand diet sodas, it's like non-alcoholic beer. I haven't tried any of the lemon or lime sodas yet.
That's so NA.

From cocacola.com:
With a unique citrus taste, Fresca is a caffeine-free soft drink that appeals to discriminating adults. Fresca was introduced as a calorie-free grapefruit-flavored drink in the United States, and was reformulated in 1985 with an aspartame sweetener base. Its bubbly, crisp, light taste provides a flavorful beverage to consumers who want great citrus taste in a calorie-free soft drink.

In some parts of Europe, the word diet has a very negative connotation. So when Pepsi started marketing there in the early 90's, they presented Diet Pepsi as Pepsi Max! All of the adds depict people living life to the max while drinking their Pepsi Max. Very strange...

Man, i've learned a lot from this thread about the history of diet drinks. Does anyone know what Diet Rite is? Is that Diet R.C.? And to the person who mentioned the negative conotation of "diet" is that why Pepsi called it "Pepsi Free" back in the Back To The Futre era? These are important questions in these troubled times.

I voted for diet DP, but I completely forgot about the Fresca element. Fresca is, by far, my favorite diet drink. I can drink one in about one gulp. Very refreshing.

Regular colas have become overly sweet for me over the years, too, but I can still drink one now and then. I had an IBC cream soda the other day, and it was delish.

diet rite and diet royal crown are different.

diet rite is caffeine-free, sodium-free, and calorie-free. diet rc is just calorie free. both are Aspartame-free which also means they are Phenylalanine-free and i'm pretty sure they're the only two diet sodas that fall under this category.

in other words, you diet drink lovers are dying slowly from those tasty neurotoxins. yay you. and for you diet drink bashers, there may be good money in commercials for diabetes medication when you're 40. assuming you guys make it past the eating disorders.

I remember my germaphobe chemistry teacher talking about this in high school. He told us that you would have to consume it non-stop for a long while before it would even have the smallest effect. Basically, it ain't going to happen. But he was talking about artificial sweetner that would be used in tea or water, so that may be different than what is in diet drinks.

He would also post articles about malignant melanoma around prom time and then interrogate the girls about their tanning habits. He was hilarious.

No, my name's not Mindy, but I had to jump in.

Brain tumors have a variety of syptoms, based on location. This is way too obvious, but the most common symptom is severe headache.

I went to a seminar today about free will and the brain (the philosophy of psychology). She started by telling us about this case where a married man was convicted of pedophelia and owning kiddie porn. Right before he was put in jail, he complained of a severe headache. They did an MRI and found a tumor. They removed the tumor and his pedophelic thoughts went away. It turns out, the tumor caused the abnormal thoughts. Another tumor grew in it's place and he went back to his old ways. I am not making this up. Crazy!

She didn't mention if he drank diet soda, though.

Oh bless your heart! I didn't mean to strike fear in your sweet little soul! We are all more likely to die from second hand smoke (or first hand) from the shows we go to than diet sodas!
There are many symptoms of brain tumors. As Carl mentioned a severe headache is one. Also, blurred vision or no vision at all. Nausea, vomiting, change in mood, seizures (how most people know they have one), staggering walk...basically all the symptoms of being drunk.
Life is too short to not drink diet sodas for fear of a brain tumor. I just don't drink them because I find them repulsive. I wish I didn't for my waistline's sake, but I really don't drink soda anyways.

Carl, I remember reading in psychology about this man who shot a bunch of nurses from a rooftop back in the 70's-he had a frontal lobe tumor. Brain tumors are scary little bitches.

I remember this episode of Law & Order where a college student killed a guy because he thought he was a knight templar. So they put him in a mental institution and find out that his doctor hadn't been conducting the right kind of tests so he could give him this experimental medication that he was paid to study....boo-ya. Turns out the kid had a brain tumor and had only months to live, so not only did they charge the doctor with the death of the man that the kid killed, when the kid dies, they were going to add another mudrder charge. God damn, what a great fucking show. Lenny Briscoe wouldn't drink no diet soda, bitches!

by it, i assume you mean artificially sweetened drinks. but the fact is phenylalanine (which is in aspartame, which is in things artificially sweetened by anything other than sucralose) is lethal. that's why there's a "warning: contains phenylalanine" on artificially sweetened stuff. before sucralose came along, diabetics had to consume larger ammounts of aspartame than the average person. and that stuff is in alot of products you consume that you may not realise, like dentyne gum.
alot of people are allergic to aspartame and phenylalanine and don't even know it. if you consume diet products and happen to get headaches alot, then you may be allergic to the stuff. there have been lawsuits brought on by people who have suffered the affects of aspartame because the stuff is poison.
and no, coca cola and pepsi cola didn't make up an articial sweetener different from the stuff that's people use in tea. nutrasweet is nutrasweet is aspartame is phenylalanine.

to conclude today's lesson: if you want artifically sweetened stuff, go with sucralose (splenda), it's the hip new thing and it tastes artificial! it's made from sugar and not rat poison.

yes and also phenylalanine is poisonous to those that suffer from Phenylketonuria (PKU). PKU is a genetic disorder that disables the person from being able to utilize phenylalanine (an essential amino acid). This is why the doctor will prick a baby's foot after they are born (to test them for PKU). They have also now started checking for sickle-cell trait at the same time, which oddly enough my niece has. For years my family went around with sickle-cell trait and didn't even know it until two years ago. weird.
