TOPIC: Favorite place to eat
Posted  Wednesday, July 31, 2002 at 10:59 PM
Post 1 of 26
I realize this isn't the best topic in the world, but I always end up eating at the same places in Murfreesboro, Nashville, Knoxville and I would kind of like an idea of maybe some places I've never been that are really good. So what are your favorite resteraunts? Fast food, sit down, Italian, meat and three, chain, family run. Whatever.

I really like Pizzeria Porta Via (calzones and stromboli are awesome here) and Slick Pig's BBQ (hickory smoked chicken wings, dear lord).

I'm a mexican junkie (unfortunately, I mean the food not the nationality) so my faves are....

fast food: taco bell. It really is like our Max or Central Perk.

sit down: Don Pablo's. The flautas are to die for (but not really...I'm not dying for food). Honorble mention to Cozumel for all of the lovely memories I have of that place. If we weren't a cheap group of friends, that place would be our Central Perk.

Jamiecarroll's favorite places to eat in Nashville:

Italian: Amerigo (West End) or Caesar's (Lion's Head)
Mexican Mexican: La Hacienda (Nolensville Rd)
California Mexican: Baja Burrito (100 Oaks)
Burgers, shakes, etc: Rotier's (Elliston Place)
Sushi: Ken's (off 21st Ave)
Pizza: Michaelangelo's (Elliston Place)
Indian: Cuisine of India (Hillsboro Village)
Meat & Three: Monell's (Germantown) or Sylvan Park (Sylvan Park)
Chinese: PF Chang's (West End)
Deli: Noshville (21st Ave)
Breakfast: Loveless (Bellevue)
"Fast" Food: Bobbie's Dairy Dip (Charlotte Pk)

I know some of these are predictable, but, well, I'm predictable.

for relatively cheap, i love me some captain d's.

for a few more quid, i love going to flannery's, in cleveland. probably the best irish pub ever. great soups and stew, as well as fish and chips, corn beef, and some weird potato thing with lots of green stuff in it.
We'll miss you Mr. Hooper.

Where are the best vegetarian places to eat? I've only attended MTSU for one semester, and I could not find a single chinese place in that stupid town with any mock stuff. Vegetable fried rice is good, but sometimes I like variety.
I'll be back in M'boro in a few weeks. I guess I'm looking forward to it.

Damon, you should try Sherlock Holmes' Pub here in Nashville (in Elliston Place). It's an English Pub (owned by a real Englishman)! And wouldn't that be even better, as far as you're concerned?

You could always eat the vegetarian chilli at the Red Rose Coffee House. They have a very good selection of vegetarian meals to choose from.

Vegetarian is hard to find in Middle TN. In Nashville, there's a lot of tasty veg stuff to be had at Calypso Cafe, Las Americas (best taqueria in Nashville), Sam & Zoe's & Mediterranean Cuisine. China Spring & PF Chang's both have a few tofu things. In Murfreesboro...I ate at a good Mexican restaurant near some car dealerships & a Turtle's. I know that's a really helpful description.

Yeah that's La Siesta. But come on, if you're going for authentic mexican food then Cozumel can't be beat. I mean, where else can you listen to waiters singing loudly to random spanish music? Where else can you be feed cherries by greasy cooks on your birthday? Where else do the waiters insist on calling the females "chula"?

Ah...Cozumel=culture.

this man speaks the truth. i have traveled far and wide, all around the world, and at no other mexican restaurant did any waitor call me "chula." and when they sing happy birthday to you, the sombrero they put one your head is usually sweaty, which is always a plus. and my favorite waitor dresses up in nothing but a skeleton bodysuit and a red curly wig on halloween. there is a certain brilliance in that costume's simplicity. so, i would go as far as to say that cozumel "rules me" @StephanieW.

Caesar's recently closed their Franklin expansion, Bravo Caesar's. I was crushed to find that out. They had some damned good bread.
