I like going to shows and recognizing people. It makes me feel popular. smile.gif

Seriously, though, I've started greeting everyone that I've met. I feel really silly when I'm around people to whom I've been introduced but don't say anything.

So, Triple-S, be sure to say, "Hello," at the next show you attend. To find me, just wait until they play "Bring on the Night." I'll be the guy jumping up and down. And, by the way, did you go to the show in Atlanta last month?

no, i didn't go to the atlanta show. you didn't have to remind me. ha.

i would say hello to you but i have no idea who you are or what you look like. i'm well noticable, at least i've been told. i'm not sure if that's good or bad.

i need a ride to the pere ubu/ the features shows, so i HAVE to meet more people from the message board.

I have to say that recognizing other Features fans A ) on campus and B ) at the shows is comforting. I really want to go to Blue Cat's now so more people can witness the lameness that is me.

The next time the Features play anywhere close, I say another chalking of MTSU/anywhere else is in order. But someone else has to buy the chalk. Mine is officially gone (too many mod targets and male anatomy *snortle*). dry.gif cool.gif

You have to admit that the mod targets were definitely worth it. Dont worry Digsy, I'll help pay for the chalk next time.

I like meeting message board members. I've met some really cool people (stephanieW, havesomesoma, digsyslattery, iwantelvis, etc.)

However, I would feel intimidated by a few other message board members, if i were to meet them.

yes, it is really great to see random board members on campus, at shows, etc. and i have to say that the ones i have met are of exceptional quality (ray davies, damon, stephaniew, etc). of course there's always good ol' digsy and iwantelvis around so we can have conversations involving board topics and confuse all our other friends. but i do agree that i would be very intimidated meeting a few other board members as well. despite my lame apprehensions, i do look forward to meeting more of you.

Let me warn you, guys: deevol is, by far, the most intimidating of all the message board members. He always wears all black with chains, a leather jacket, and combat boots. He usually has a really nasty look on his face, too. He likes to use the bare arms of underclassmen to extinguish his unfiltered cigarettes. According to message board lore, he once beat the crap out of a six year old girl in a wheelchair just because she could get better parking spots. He's a rough character... so watch out for him at shows.

I'm short and therefore easily dismissable/annoying. I don't think I could hold my own against some members of this board. I live in intimidation.

I'm sorry that I didn't get to talk to Keith or jamiecarroll aside from a "hello". I will definitely seek you all out at the next show.
Anyway, yes Jenny. I loved meeting them. And, yeah..It rocked.

I recently met Lauren (at the Uptown Mix show). And what you've heard is true. She's a cool chick. She gave me the lowdown on Ben folds living in Nashville. Unfortunately, I think she moved to South Dakota last week to do an internship for the next few months. I think her internet access may be limited, so we may not be hearing too much from her for a little while. It's too bad-- I always thought she had some good stuff to contribute to the board. If you hapen to be reading this, good luck with the internship, Lauren!

Yeah, I think Keith may be the only other messageboarder with whom I've spoken (to my knowledge). Man, I need to meet people with more creative board names biggrin.gif

Ben Folds lived in Nashville for a year or two, before BF5, trying to "make it" (with everyone else here in Nashville). I think it was in the early 90s. He was the original drummer in the Nashville band Fleming & John, who you may or may not have heard of. He actually played drums on "I'm Not Afraid," which appears on their first album, 'Delusions of Grandeur.' He has worked with them quite a bit since then. Fleming (McWilliams) and John (Mark Painter) appear on 'Fear of Pop', John has arranged strings and played horns for BF5 and BFSolo, and Ben co-wrote 'Ugly Girl' and sang on 'I Fall For You' on F&J's second album, 'The Way We Are.'

OK, changing the subject once again, I never knew that Osama ben Folds played with Fleming & John. Do you know when he stopped playing with them? I first saw them in 1995. And what are F&J doing now? I haven't heard anything about them in a long while. I always enjoyed their music... except when Fleming would whip out the rain stick.

Well, Folds probably stopped playing with them sometime in 1992 or 1993, since their first record originally came out in 1994. I don't know for sure, though.

I haven't heard anything about Fleming & John since sometime in 2001, when they played some shows here in town. I know that John stays busy as a producer and arranger.

He has a house here in town. He's been spotted there with the whole family. I'm resisting the urge to stalk him despite being a fanboy.

I heard from jetpack Sean that their new nanny is the neice (?) of John Mark Painter. More specifically, she's married to- and in the band of- Rich Painter (Rich Creamy Paint) who is the nephew (?) of John. I've seen both Fleming & John and Rich Creamy Paint and both are great. Lotta talent in that family. This may or may not be 100% accurate.

Oh, okay. I knew he used to live in Nashville, I thought that this was currently, and I was confused considering his Aussie wife.

Flemming and John are all too relevant. I saw them at an assembly when I was in elementary school and have been a fan ever since.

Wow, I'm flattered to have not met so many people and even be suspected of being a ghost member. I wish I could say that I'm as cool as BrianEno2 or neuboy or others of the "disappeared". But really I'm just a lowly, living & breathing Features fanatic that you've probably seen at most shows since Nov. 2000, but will see very little of since, yes, I do live in South Dakota at the moment. It was lovely to meet those of you that I was lucky enough to run into. And, Keith, I'm kind of embarassed to say that I know who you are b/c I love Lifeboy & Verde & so I pointed you out to Sina at 12th & Porter. But it's ok that you don't know me since we've never actually met.

Fun fact #1- I grew up in the same town as Rich Painter & we have mutual friends. He is indeed John Painter's nephew & his band Rich Creamy Paint makes pretty good sugary pop music.

Fun fact #2- I can confirm that Ben Folds has moved his family to Nashville, which is why Carligula & I can often be found hiding in the bushes in a certain neighborhood...

Fun fact #1- I grew up in the same town as Rich Painter & we have mutual friends. He is indeed John Painter's nephew & his band Rich Creamy Paint makes pretty good sugary pop music.
I always loved "A.D.D.", though if Rich really had ADD, he would not always have his love interest "on his mind," he would NOT be able to concentrate on her at all.

Did you ever hear Rich's rap album?
Relevant: Prince, PT Anderson, Punk, Post-Punk, Purple, Party of Five, Peter Swanson, Peter Gabriel-led Genesis, "Peter Panic", Paul's Boutique, Potential Energy, Every Features MB member but me.

No, that sounds interesting, though I can't imagine his voice rapping. And, Keith, I will- couldn't figure out the double quoting thing for this post.
