Wow that was amazing. I'm not sure it was a concert. More of a "show." Bunnies, confetti, light lassos, pepto bismol, the most intense strobe lights I've ever seen, confetti, incredible hulk hands, nun puppets, more confetti, giant balloons, and of course, confetti. I'm going to be finding that stuff in weird places for the next few days. It's funny, I'm not sure how to take it all. They've sort of become this self-consciously not cheesy, but something close to it..tongue-in-cheek circus act. I mean, it's great to get caught up in, but it's strange at the same time. It was refreshing to have a band enjoy their audience enjoying their music, and actually getting away with it (because they can). Wayne seems like a great guy (very nice in his cream colored suit, with pepto stains, which I got to grab a few times), and very personable, shaking our hands and smiling and such. There was a13 year old boy there with his dad right up front with us. It was hsi frist concert, and Wayne talked to him, asked him is name. He was like, "I'm Billy," and Wayne said, "Jilly? Nice to meet you, Jilly!" and the kid was like, "No, man, BILLY!" Jilly? what the hell, Wayne?
They played some stuff off the Soft Bulletin, and of course The Pink Robots, and some of their other popular stuff like "Vaseline." I got there pretty early, and grabbed the front row with some fellow features fans from Chattanooga. It was nice having them there. The high point was definitely "Do You Realize" and "Fight Test" and "Yoshimi." Low points were: annoying girl next to me who shoved her way next to me only to spill her nasty drink on me, tell me 20 times that her friend was on stage in a bunny costume, repeatedly hit me in the face and apologize, have a running (one-sided) conversation with Wayne, ask me what the drummer's name was, and continue to ask me when I already told her "Cliff," make a fool out of herself by lying to Wayne about it being her birthday, and him not believing her. Besides that, I wish they had fucked around a little less and played more of the album. I was sad not to hear "Are You a Hypnotist?" and "It's Summertime." Forget the "knives Out" cover I've been hearing about.
Well, that said, it was fun. Now I can actually point to someone on tv and say, "I've shaken his hand." woohoo. oh yeah, and say that I've seen the flaming lips...

Why would you do that?
