I am soooo going to be there. And yes, seeing the Eels probably has me more excited only because I've seen the Lips 3 times (in 2002, 2000 and 1994). What I'm most excited about is the potential for a rare collaboration between the two bands. Sideponytails and I have vowed to get there early and be close enough to be touching the stage for this show.

So does anyone know the official opener? I've heard two different things. I really hope it's MC Honky.

From what I've seen and heard we'll be lucky to get much pre-Soft Bulletin stuff beyond She Don't Use Jelly.

lucky for me that soft bulletin is my favorite of all the ones i've heard.....mmmmm, it appears that i am in luck for being a late comer to the fan club. and yes, carligula and i will be right up front basking in their.....well, crap, i couldn't think of anything right there, so just basking, ok? i think that works good enough. nothing can beat ben folds though, nothing...............absolutely nothing. ---(sigh), i still get happy thinking about it.

The Lips can beat Osama Ben Folds.

The last Uptown Mix show was relatively short, and I believe this one will be as well. Therefore, we'll probably just get stuff from the last two albums.

According to the website... yes. I'm thinking it might possibly make the show better if it rains. It'll not only be appropriate for all of the depressing songs in the Eels catalogue, but it will also add to the sensory overload that is the Flaming Lips. Of course, lightning is another matter...

Sorry about the excessive posting, but since I won't be able to get in, will I be sitting? Would it be a good idea to bring a blanket?

I seriously doubt you'll want to sit if you plan on possibly seeing the stage. Plus, even if it rains very little, I doubt you'll be able to find a good, dry place.

Yeah, don't go jocking my signature. Feel free to promote carligula.com, though biggrin.gif

For those who care (and read this soon enough), I'll be there wearing a black polo shirt, gray shorts, and navy blue Vans. I'm sure I'll be the only one wearing a polo...

Come say hi. I'm always willing to meet fellow Features fanatics.

Are the Eels playing first (not counting the opener) and if so when do you think they'll go on? 8ish? Sorry for so many questions.

The show was FAB-U-LOUS! I enjoyed it more than any Uptown Mix I have been to this season. Confetti, dancing woodland creatures, huge balloon bouncy balls and that twirly light thing that Wayne kept spinning around were awesome!

The bad --
the heat
the crowd
the Eels (6/8 of the time)
the chick belting out all the words she knew to the crowd pleasers in the most off-key warble

the good --
the Flaming Lips,
esp. the Pink Floyd cover, She Don't Use Jelly, and the whole show!!

Yeah, great show overall. I must admit the Eels had a very slow start. What's up with starting a set with four covers? Once they warmed up, though, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I think they picked the best songs possible in almost all cases (3 speed, Last Stop: This Town, Saturday Morning, Love of the Loveless, Dog-Faced Boy). Fresh Feeling would have been nice though.

The Flaming Lips were great, but I must admit, that after seeing three shows with the same schtick-- it's officially old. They either need a new gimmick or just play more music from the 90s.

Sorry to those of you who missed it. If it makes you feel better, I don't think it was quite as good as the Ben Folds show.

Whatever Carligula said, I think the opposite. I only saw the last 3 Eels songs and it sucked. Flaming Lips were awesome. Would have been much better though if they could have eliminated the 5 minute lulls between EVERY song. I thought it was much more enjoyable than Ben Folds.
I TOTALLY AGREE!

Keith, you are destined to rock. Never forget this.

Hey, are ya'll kidding me?!! How fortunate are we to get a cool outdoor show like this for $5?!!

I got there during the Eels, and they were good, but not as great as I was expecting. The Flaming Lips were miles and miles better than last time I saw them live. My only regret is that I didn't get to be very close.

the show was awesome! i had such a good time. the only bad thing that happened were the two guys next to us who decided to get in a fistfight, but thankfully holeypeacoat broke it up and i didn't get punched in the face. i think the big bald guy broke my toe though. we were really close though so it was worth it. biggrin.gif
maybe i could sing along
to your neverending songs,
i'm just looking for some fun

Was "Lightning Strikes the Postman" from Clouds Taste Metallic one of them? I can't think of the other 90s songs they played except "... Jelly".
