and how was this show, token (well, whenever you get back)?

so i was totally caught off guard a few mintues ago. i was just sitting at the computer, randomly wasting time, when i hear forget cassettes playing on my television ("ms. rhythm and blues" to be exact). it was a commercial for some girls' rock and roll camp that's gonna be held at mtsu. how bizarre.

Yeah, they have been raising money for that camp for quite a while. Character, Verde and Forget Cassettes played a benefit show for it last fall, and I think there have been other benefit shows since then.
I TOTALLY AGREE!

Keith, you are destined to rock. Never forget this.

This show was great. Forget Cassettes are very rocking. I enjoyed watching the keyboard player/drummer especially. He was quite impressive. I am looking forward to attending some more shows and buying Instruments of Action next time I splurge on new CDs.

The first opening band - Weights and Measures - I could not appreciate at all. The second - Saxon Shore - was okay, but it takes a lot of work for me to get into all instrumental acts like that - especially on first listen.

That's the thing-- Sina doesn't like good bands. In fact, I bet she doesn't even like The Features

I just saw the commercial for the rock n roll camp.

I can hear it now..."One time, at rock n roll camp..."

Oh about the show, Forget Cassettes ROCK!

I kind of like the idea of such a Rock and Roll camp... at least it has to be better than the typical summer camp experience. There should be more ways for youths to be creative and express their artsy side without a huge expense. I mean, what do we have for kids (in particular girls) that's comparable these days? Camping.. which does little in the way of self expression.. how about ballet and gymnastics? could be expressive but very expensive and mostly a good way to grow little anorexic cheerleader-types. And I think we could all agree that team sports does ANYTHING but promote individuality and/or free expression.

When I was little, my parents spent tons of money on lessons (ballet, music, art, sports, etc.) but I never really thought to use any of this stuff to express myself until I was WAY older and my parents refused to pay for any more lessons.. sad.gif I think had I had the opportunity to take a class on zine writing I would've really gotten into it and taken my "talents" a step further.

sorry.. I went off on yet another tangent, feel free to disregard, as my opinions/childhood stories are worthless.

No, thanks, weenie. I invite debate on the board, and your points are well-taken (at least by me).

My main beef with it is just the "teaching" of rock. How do you do that? Doesn't it go against the fibers of rock to teach it?

I didn't mean to imply that I thought it was the best idea ever.. just better than alternative methods of day camps/lessons/babysitting services out there..

I agree that the teaching of rock and roll seems a bit contradictory, but seeing as how this has never been done before (so far as I know) I'm open to it.
