TOPIC: Four Year Curse

About four years ago. I cant remember the day, some October night in 2001 a friend and I drove to Nashville from M'boro to see the Features, Self, and Fluid Oz. Anyway, it was a great show. But as I walked to my car, I saw broken glass all over the street. Someone broke into my car, stole some CDs, my owners manual, and a DC / AC converter box. Probably all in all about $500 worth of loss. I think it was Smee who's vehicle was also broken into right behind mine. Horrible night after such a great concert.

Today, approximately four years later, I decided to get my ass off of the couch from watching football and drive to half moon bay (about a 45 min drive from my apartment). It's one of my favorite places to go and walk along the coast. These days I drive a 1971 volkswagen beetle. So I walked up to my car on my way back from the beach, and the little triangular window was open. The door was unlocked and the seat was pushed forward. Someone used a little crow bar, broke into my car through the little triangular window and stole 800 bucks of my stuff. 20 GB Creative Mp3 player, 2 alpine amps, 6 inch sony speakers, cd deck,...... it was in broad daylight. They even broke my radio antenna off for some reason. Fortunately the box I made for the 10 inch sub and 6" rear speakers was too big for them to get out. 3:30 in the afternoon in a public beach parking lot. I feel like shit. I knew I was pushing my luck loading up that old unsecure car with so much stuff... but usuall at night I secure it to where no one knows its there. I never expected on a sunny day for someone to just jack most everything.

So my four year curse lingers. I hate theives.

They probably used the antenna to smoke crack.

Sorry about that, buddy. I hope you didn't lose too many CDs. I've never understood why people keep ALL of their CDs in a case in their car. Losing a significant percentage of my CD collection would piss me off a lot more than losing stereo equipment. So I never have more than a few CDs in my car at a time.
Relevant: Prince, PT Anderson, Punk, Post-Punk, Purple, Party of Five, Peter Swanson, Peter Gabriel-led Genesis, "Peter Panic", Paul's Boutique, Potential Energy, Every Features MB member but me.

Actually i was in the process of ripping my cds on to my mp3 player. I had a mini stereo input on the faceplate of my cd deck, so i always used the mp3 player connected to the deck......luckily i wasnt keeping any cds in my car. But dude ... this sucks

That sucks. Last spring, my 3-week old $1500 laptop and $150 stereo were stolen from my car in broad daylight while I was working out at the Vandy gym. It happened right alongside a practice field where some kids were playing soccer. I was just thankful I hadn't started writing my thesis (although I was in the process of outlining it).

Do you have insurance for that? I do... now.

Insurance.... Well... nope... liability. When I got this old 71 bug, the insurance company asked the worth of the vehicle. I said around $2000. They (Geico) recommended that I not fully insure a car that isn't worth very much. They said I would be basically will be paying for the car twice over the course of a year. Which make sense. So I agreed. Well since buying the car, I've spent an additional $2000 on a new engine, alternator, fuel pump, and paint job. So maybe I should get it fully insured. But in the end, if I sold it today, which I'm looking to sell in the next half a year, I'd only get maybe $2500 to $3000 for the vehicle. Bugs just don't go for much unless they're convertible or sunroof. And it still needs interior work, rubber seals, headliner, dash... Its definitly a project car.

Long answer, but it's a complete loss unless for some odd reason Half Moon Bay police department can find all of my stuff. They said it's been an ongoing thing lately. People go to the beach and come back to find their car broken into.

You think that'd warrant some cops on the beach. Geez.
That's so NA.

Hmmm, maybe it just takes four years for the shock to wear off and for you to let your guard down.
