TOPIC: Friendster

Sometime in August my friend made me sign up for Friendster. I rolled my eyes and said it was dumb. But it has turned into part of my daily internet habit along with checking Email. Everybody's on there and I find people I haven't seen from high school. More and more often I see people out and they wave to me, and my friends will ask, "who's that?" and I say, "that's my friendster." I felt pretty nerdy about it at first, but the thing is totally being accepted and becoming a cultural phenomenon. I guess the thing was set up to accomodate dating, but it seems to be used more for posting events and sending messages to friends, I guess that's why people are into it. Anyways, anyone else into this thing?

I'm on there. Not surprising in the least I'm sure. I've met a couple of people through friendster, but mostly it serves my daily stalking needs.

friendster is just a cheap way for people to boost their egos. the excuse i've heard everyone give is that it's convenient to keep in touch with friends....whatever. e-mail and the telephone are fine. i turn my nose up at friendster.
Nothin' gets in my way....Not even locked doors!

I glimpsed the new SPIN tonight. The cover declared -

I thought LiveJournal looked more interesting, but I never did that either. Friends suck, so I think I'll pass on this one.

I disagree. I think it's great for what it claims-- social networking. It's about meeting your friends' friends. I've been able to put faces with names and now I know who my friends are talking about and if I happen to see that person at a show or party, I'm much more likely to talk to him/her.

Plus, I'll use any means necessary to score.

Perhaps you'd be interested in trying the new online service that I'm starting. It's called Slutster.

If there were a Slutster, it would probably work better if it were modeled more after Napster than Friendster.

I'm on there too. Run a search for The Features in music interests and I'm sure you'll find members of the board.
