TOPIC: Fun Things to Do...
Posted  Monday, January 20, 2003 at 11:12 PM
Post 1 of 23
sorry for this really random request, but i'm trying to compile a list of fun/entertaining things to do in the nashville/murfreesboro area. it would be good if these things were applicable to the under 21 crowd as well as those with a very limited money supply, however all suggestions are welcome. help me fight off the inevitable virus of boredom and routine.

hopefully all will be able to benefit from the fruit of this thread.

let the wacky suggestions begin... ph34r.gif

Two words: Scavenger. Hunt.

Hey, it's gotten us out of boredom at least twice. Heck, add a third word ('Ultimate') and you got a whole week of fun!

wow, someone is actually having a hard time finding free, legal things to do in the mboro area? i can't imagine... have you ever been to night-court in nashville? its usually pretty entertaining, although you need to get there around midnight to see all the real fun! its free and there are plenty of late-night places to eat before and after your done. thats pretty much all we do when we have no money, that or playstation. if your in a childish mood, rolling someone's house can also be exciting.

Get culture. Go to the Frist. It costs your time, gas, and six dollars with a student ID. I've also been a fan of the completely free "people watching." For some reason, the idiosyncrasies of people you don't know are good for a laugh.

The KUC on MTSU's campus is a great place for people-watching, I've found. That's usually how we pass the time during our breaks.

I guess since Rollum moved out of Murfreesboro, you've taken to watching strangers instead. tongue.gif

yes, the scavenger hunts always do make for an interesting time (as well as interesting footage), but they usually only work with large groups of people. the frist center is a good idea as well, it was at the top of my list already. night court in nashville sounds awesome. i will definitely have to give that one a try. keep these great suggestions coming...

by the way, does anyoe know if either of those scary wax musuems that used to be in nashville are still open?

I know that I went a few years ago (Digsy too, maybe) to the one near Opryland Hotel. It was an enjoyable experience. It's kinda dark in there and I expected George Jones to eat me. But other than that it's a good time. I think it costs around $7.

Yes it was a sad day. I mean, honestly, who cares if the old man down my street is cutting his lawn. With my current job, I've taken my stalking to a new level. I mean, phone numbers, addresses, and what kind of books/movies people like all at the touch of your fingertips.

Ah yes, the wax museum experience. It was one of the ones near Opry Mills. I still want to go to all of those tacky Country Music museums around that area. But not Opry Mills itself, I don't feel like having my soul sucked out.

go usa (m'boro), disc golf, edwin and percy warner parks, drugs, basketball, batting cages, kissing girls
You know you have problems, with both money and alcohol, when you find yourself shoving beers down your pants outside a Features show.

In the summer, Shakespeare in the Park provides some nice free entertainment. I've been twice, and the latter time I was both impressed and a little disgusted about the preparedness of the crowds. People had pop-up chairs and picnics planted everywhere -- eventually there was no space for walking or standing. Some of the set-ups seemed quite inventive indeed; I saw one couple that had brought wine, glasses, and some very gourmet food. However, the whole scenario just reminded me of an army of SUVs on the highway. Nashvillians just have a way of turning what could have been a free night of arts appreciation into a strip mall-type situation. People here just aren't all that bohemian. Nevertheless, it's worth attending when the weather turns warm.

Whenever me and my friends are bored we go over to this fire ("Burny") next to the Greenhouse bar and just kinda sit.. dreaming about when we will actually be able to go inside.

Way off subject but someone mentioned an Emu farm somewhere in Antioch.. why are there Emu farms? What are their purposes? and I guess this is a good time to admit my intense fear of Emus/Ostriches. Gahh.. birds just shouldn't be that big!

I also found a love for bowling recently.. I dont completley suck so that makes it a lot more enjoyable.
You're so fucking money you don't even know it

I love bowling. That new 24-hour place on Charlotte is the shit, but I still have a soft spot in my heart for the old school bowling places, especially Melrose Lanes.

I must second thelawnwrangler's emotion concerning Edwin and Percy Warner Parks in SW Nashville. What would I be today without those joyous 2000+ acres? I had the good fortune of growing up in close proximity to the park, and I have so many memories, good and bad. A great place to hang out, a great place to exercise, a great place to make out, a great place to party, oh and a great place to shoot a Self album cover, aparently. A great place to do most anything, in fact. I could go on and on, but don't take my word for it...

I can't remember the last time I had fun without drinking, you should do that. Plenty of bowling and billiards in town. RCKTWN. Idaho.

my grandmother used to take me there when i was little. almost every friday night. as entertainment. and she was friends with the commisioner so we would go hang out with him in his office when he would take a break and stuff. sometimes there would be some scary thug in there with his lawyer all shackled up and stuff which can really freak out a 6 year old. once when i was a teen i talked my friends into going and they loved it. i haven't been back since then though.
she's just another ho that i met in the hood
i told her i was crunchy black and it was all good
