In case you didn't know, there is a release party tonight for the new Guided By Voices record, Earthquake Glue, at the Slow Bar. Teenage FBI, a GBV tribute band featuring stars of various local bands (and some message board members) will be performing some of Bob's classics...

I believe admission is free. This should be a great night and one of our last few chances to kick it wild style at the Slow Bar.

I'm a big fan of the GBV, though I'm just an amateur compared to some of the fanatics that I've met. GBV is a vast world and you've got to have a lot of diligence (not to mention a good bit of money) to track down all of their stuff.

Last night was a blast. You would be hard-pressed to assemble a better lineup for a GBV tribute band than those guys.

Who was it? I'm assuming there had to be at least one member of the Hot Pipes there. Am I right?
Daigle is all we need to make the night complete

Phil Pomeroy - vocals
William Tyler - guitar, vocals
Dave Paulson - guitar
guy from the Carter Administration (forgot your name...sorry!) - guitar, vocals
Eric Williams - bass
Ben Martin - drums

No Hot Pipes were involved, though I would love to see what Justin and Dave could do in a GBV cover band.

it indeed takes dilligence, devotion, money, time, and effort to be a true GbV afficianado. and it takes ADD to appreciate the hoards of 2-minute pop wonders on the countless records you will own when you let the task of owning their catalog be yours. while my own collection is no where near complete, i made it my mission for a while a few years back to find and own everything...from every fading captain release to the airport five to the bootleg concert for the winos? to the appearance on the buffy the vampire slayer soundtrack. and while i did well, the collection now sits in unmarked crates collecting dust at my boyfriend's house, waiting for me to want it again.

so do i? who has the new album? is it great, or is GbV now relegated to the "influences" pile? any thoughts?

i am sad that i missed teenage fbi. i've heard they're worthy, but due to unforseen circumstances my trip across the river that night was cancelled. what did they play? i think my all time fave is the "rock anthem" over the neptune/mesh gear fox.

new album = growing on me. it seems different for some reason that i can't put my finger on, but it sounds promising so far. they played a lot, and i am really bad with song names, but they closed with a personal fave
chicken blows.

Freezetag made me the most incredible Guided by Voices compilation last year, complete with liner notes. I had never heard GBV and she opened the door.
