Passions: I used to never miss an episode. I mean, never. I set my VCR to tape it when I was in high school. I still watch it, but just occasionally.

I would say Days of Our Lives, but I don't feel guilty about it even though other people probably think I should. I've watched it since I was about four, probably, and it is used to be wonderful.

More later...
But what will happen to the boy when the circus comes to town?

Rachel, you are the savior of the messageboard. Jamie Carroll would be proud. smile.gif

My guilty pleasures are:
Older women (50 is about as high as I will go, but I am sure that exceptions exist)
Wrestling (well it used to be, but I never stay at home to watch it anymore)
Conservative Republicanism
Details Magazine
80's Porn
Jose Canseco
Shopping at Wal-Mart (I hate Wal-Mart, but I can't...stop...going mad.gif)

I rarely feel guilty about anything I do or like. I have a soft spot in my heart for Phil Collins era Genesis, as well as Huey Lewis & The News and Boston. I'm an old-school Real World/Road Rules junkie. I enjoyed the Charlie's Angels movie and own it on DVD. Other than that, I proudly admit to everything else I like, I think...

I usually end up getting addicted to the Young & The Restless over summer. I tried to watch Passions, but I usually ended up missing it despite the fact that it was very funny.

Does anyone else watch channel 5's "Talk of the Town" with Meryl Rose, Harry Chapman, and...well it used to be Joe Case, but he went to Fox. Anyway, I usually have that on if I'm in front of the TV from 12:30-1:30 (which I always am). That's pretty embarrassing.

I used to do the exact same thing before I began working. They run back-to-back, which is nice. Damn my mom for this filthy, guilty pleasure. It is all her fault for subjecting me to it in my younger years. She also got me hooked on "Sisters" in the early to mid-nineties. I stand by that though. It was a cool show.

Does anyone remember a teen soap called "Swans Crossing" that came on Fox around 9 AM in about 1992 or so? I used to love that show!

DeGrassi.

I don't think I like it as much as I like to watch thier interpretation of "real middle school life" and critique it. I guess it is the closest that a lot have come but, "If your life was a tv show, this would be it" my ass.

This is all true if you mean that Republicans hate Wal-Mart for their monopolistic ways. Many of the small business owners that I know are Republicans and hate Wal-Mart.

i used to watch "crook and chase" every day after school when i was in junior high. i got to the point to thinking that i "knew" charlie chase and so when i saw him at city cafe one day i caught myself about to say "hey charlie! its me!" as if he knew who i was too.

"talk of the town" reminded me.

I always enjoyed the relationship between "Crook & Chase" and "Talk Soup." There was one episode of "Talk Soup" where John Henson had to introdue a clip of "Crook & Chase" introducing a clip of John Henson introducing a clip of "Crook & Chase" on "Talk Soup."

WOW, I completely forgot about Talk Soup! I really liked it with John Henson, but I still liked the black girl from the 5th Wheel who hosted for a season or two. Speaking of which, I wish that she was still on the 5th Wheel making fun of the goofy-ass men that they have on there. I hate those guys. They give us all a bad name. It's embarrassing, because the women are usually far out of their league.

"Talk Soup" was one of the shows that I lived on in 8th grade. Of course, I only like John Henson. I never gave Aisha Tyler a chance, but she is entertaining on "Friends" so she can't be that bad. I actually have a bunch of episodes of "Talk Soup" on tape since I began taping them once I heard that John Henson was leaving. I probably have about 15 or so...

Then it's settled! Take note that I would prefer to go on MTV's dating show (which involves all of my friends watching the date as it happens in a tv room with my date's friends), because they have way hotter babes on there. On second though, I have a better shot at a threesome on the 5th Wheel. 5th Wheel it is! Or better yet, both!

Mine are:

A Whopper Value Meal with cheese from Burger King
Making fun of people
Seeing someone I don't like screw up somehow (fender benders, bad grades, etc.).
Accepting bribes
That Pat Sajak Show

None of these go to the extent of being illegal...I don't think.

Richard Dawson was by far the best host of Family Fued ever to exist. I saw that "AL" from home improvement is hosting the newer versions and he lacks the gameshow personality big time. t

There is no reason to feel guilty about those. I love gameshows, especially old game shows. I love original nintendo equally as much. And, I love horror movies of all kinds, including bad ones. Some of the funniest movies I've ever seen are horror movies.

I'm sorry to all you Richard Dawson fans out there, but he just creeped me out. I first saw him as the bad guy in The Running Man when I was little, so I hated him ever since. Seeing him kiss every woman in sight (and later finding out that he was a bona fide womanizer) just gave me the heebie jeebies. Give me Ray Combs.
I TOTALLY AGREE!

Well, after watching the "E! True Hollywood Story" about "Family Fued," it was revealed that all the women were asked before hand whether or not they wanted to be kissed, and they almost always said yes. Richard during the later "Family Feud" years where he is extremely tan isn't as cool as "Hogan's Heroes" or "What's My Line?" Richard. "Match Game" Richard is the funniest, though.

Brett Somers is terrifying and Gene Rayburn does look like a refugee from "Planet of the Apes." Chuck just had some saliva problems, no reason to call him a freak. He's still cooler than 90% of the celebrities alive today...well he's alive today, but I mean prominent celebrities...

And I still think Fannie Flagg is hott.

2. Old Game shows (match game, family fued, password, $250,000 pyramid)
3. Original nintendo
6.  GOOD horror movies
There is no reason to feel guilty about those. I love gameshows, especially old game shows. I love original nintendo equally as much. And, I love horror movies of all kinds, including bad ones. Some of the funniest movies I've ever seen are horror movies.
Speaking of funny horror movies... have you seen Jason X ??? it has gotta be the funniest movie i've seen in the past few months. I mean, it's unbelievably similar to watching a bad episode of star trek....

i've also been told that my love for "Boy Meets World" should be considered a guilty pleasure, but i don't agree.....also, not a guilty one, but the Wonder Years has got to be one of the greatest sitcoms ever.

does anyone remember the soap opera type thing that used to come on Nickelodeon that had to do with high school....they even came out with books, but i can't remember the name (you can't do that on television is also a show to make note of)

There was also "Welcome Freshmen". It was comedic, so I doubt it's what she was talking about. What was the guy's name who had the camera and tried to get into the girls' bathroom all the time?

I share the guilty pleasure of liking those horrible dating shows. I just laugh at some of the things the people on there do to make sure they are the ones that are going to be picked. Elimidate is absolutely hilarious when it involves a guy picking out of 4 girls...All they do is try to cut down on each other and have attitudes. I just sit there and think of how much I would hate them all in real life. BUT, that's the reason I continue to watch; it fascinates me that there are people that shallow. I love to hate them, I suppose.

The rest of the album? All of the Neptunes songs (there are about 6, and "Rock Your Body" is one) are great, and so is "Cry Me a River." The rest is pretty boring, and the song with Brian McKnight is especially bad. But the good songs are good enough to make it worth the purchase, in my opinion.

That song reminds me of some early 80's Michael Jackson song. I want to call it "Dance the Night Away" but that may just be a Van Halen song. As much as I hate to say it about that MC5 shirt-wearing bitch, I like the "Rock Your Body" song too. It's good. On a separate note, Jennifer Anniston was seen wearing the same MC5 shirt recently. But, as Brother Love put it, "She can do that."

Dude, there is no shame in liking Justin Timberlake. I like his music, and I don't mean just one song. He's not claming to be Thom Yorke; he just writes catchy pop/r&b songs and looks good shaking his ass. At least he's honest about what he's doing. I have a lot more respect for and interest in him than in most of today's popular rock bands.

I can actually see your point. But does Justin Timberlake write his songs? I was just wondering...it doesn't really matter if he does or doesn't, because his pop stuff is nowhere near as grating as Avril and all those wannabe gutter-punks. The severe suckitude of the current 'tEeN pUnK!!' scene actually makes me long for the days of Hanson and BSB...

I also seriously like Ludacris. This morning, I purposely held off eating breakfast so I could sit in my bed and watch his new video from the 2 Fast 2 Furious soundtrack, 'Act A Fool.' It's great.

He says he helped write the album. I don't know how many songs he did all by himsef but I do know worked on some. I'm pretty sure the lyric "you're out of this world except you're not green" was his input.

I think he is more talented than most people think. I've seen him play the piano, guitar and drums plus the singing and dancing. And yes. He looks very good shaking his ass.

My buddy bought Justified last week and I had a look at the liner notes. Justin Timberlake has a writing credit on every song on the album. But it seems he wrote none by himself. They're all "Hugo/Timberlake/Williams" or "Mosley/Timberlake." You can read into that what you want. I would imagine that he contributes some lyrical ideas, but not much more than that.

Oh crap, that's just retarded. Everyone knows there is only room for one teen musical, and that will be "From Justin to Kelly" (which I can't wait to rent, by the way...for the awfulness of it). I actually found an all Avril magazine at Hastings and I flipped through it. I think she's a robot programmed to open her mouth really wide and give the devil horns whenever a camera is near...

Just as a sidenote, I read the other day that Avril's song 'Sk8ter Boi', which I *might* have actually given a listen had it been spelled correctly, is apparently going to be made into a movie. That's disgusting.
Oh crap, that's just retarded. Everyone knows there is only room for one teen musical, and that will be "From Justin to Kelly" (which I can't wait to rent, by the way...for the awfulness of it). I actually found an all Avril magazine at Hastings and I flipped through it. I think she's a robot programmed to open her mouth really wide and give the devil horns whenever a camera is near...
laugh.gif laugh.gif oh my god! i hate them! i hate them all!

why couldn't they stay in their territory of teen puke land? they sucked, but at least they weren't trying to invade on us to taint and mock the greatness of punk rock.

you remember in goonies when chunk tells his secrets about pretending to vomit on people at the movies?

. . .i think i might have to go see sk8ter boi, or however the fuck its spelled.

i am editing this post now bc i just went to the link.
i have been forced to listen to this song at work, and it turns out, ive been giving avril way too much credit all along. i thought she was talking about a girl who dumpoed her boyfriend bc he was a lazy ass slacker. i was like, "way to go, at least she's showing young grrrrls that they don't have to settle"
come to find out, thats not what the song is about at all! and it has a much more disturbing "message". this is a "teen anthem"??!

ok, done now.

I think Avril is really cute in a weird way. I think its her voice, which I'm sure isn't what she's going for. Her songs definitely don't help her out, though.

I wish that she had not kick-started the whole "wearing a tie with a t-shirt" thing. I hate her for it. But as Brother Love says, "It lets us know who's with us...and who's against us." PS - I hate faux punks.

i have never been more grossed out by anyone's teeth in my life than billy whatever......but i'm guessing i'm still remembering the "before braces" days, but man, gross........bleck.

i would never go out and buy her cd's, but there are certain avril songs that i don't mind listening to on the radio, but the radio is mostly full of crap anyway, so ultimately i prefer my cd player........which by the way has no avril, justin timberlake, or anything.....ben folds is my listening pleasure along with the cardigans

By the way, does anyone know if Ben Folds still lives on Belmont Blvd.? I heard he's recording with John Mark Painter, so I assume he's still around.

Last I heard, he was involved in a project with Ben Kweller and Ben Lee called "the Bens," which I'll bet is really cool. Man, I want to join that fucking band.
Relevant: Prince, PT Anderson, Punk, Post-Punk, Purple, Party of Five, Peter Swanson, Peter Gabriel-led Genesis, "Peter Panic", Paul's Boutique, Potential Energy, Every Features MB member but me.

I had several students who wore ties that way, and it never really bothers me. Because I wear a tie to school almost every day, they would come to me and ask me to tie it for them. It made me feel fatherly.

A pleasure about which I do not feel guilty involves school. I'll never see those nihilist brats EVER AGAIN, and so anything they've ever done that annoys me absolutely DOESN"T MATTER. The other thing is that I can get a job this summer if I want one...or I can just go to the pool again this afternoon...

I've recently read up on all this, and I believe the "The Bens" Ep or whatever is finished and now he's working on a new solo thing. But I could be mistaken.
i have freakin' yet to see Ben Folds anywhere in nashville. And I am obviously a Folds fan. I'll just settle on seeing my next favorite Ben tomorrow night at Slow Bar.

I see what you mean here. She completely grosses me out and makes me shudder every time I see her, but I find I am compelled to watch at least a few minutes of her show while I flip channels.

I remedied my addiction to television by disconnecting my cable this weekend. Now I'm sure I will just transfer my addiction to watching movies all summer.

This has already been the case for me. I've watched 4/6 of the first batch of Star Trek movies (the good ones). I'll watch the rest of them for the first time, as well as watch 5 Star Wars and some Back to the Future, MST3K, Pride & Predjudice (IheartToken), Futurama...this summer will be busy after all. With all that, it may begin to feel like a guilty pleasure.
