TOPIC: Halloween Time

Well, one of my favorite holidays is almost here and a few haunted houses have already opened their doors. I'm a haunted house fanatic and I was very sad to hear of the Haunted Prison's demise. The old Nashville Prison which had been home to the "event" for many years , has been demolished. Sure the Haunted Prison was a breeding ground for middle schoolers, wasn't very scary, and perhaps over-rated, But its a shame that the old prison had to go. In a weird way, I considered it one of the coolest places in Nashville.

On a much happier note, anyone know of any cool haunted-house type events that are worth the admission fee?

I hate them, too.. But the worst ones are those church ones, do they have those horrible things around here?

At home one of the churches has a HUGE haunted house sort of event which portrays what it will be like when you go to hell.

I went to it once with some friends thinking it was going to be a normal haunted house.. I happened to look up at the time the pastor said, "If you want Jesus in your heart just look up at me." (I wasn't paying attention.) The next thing I knew, I was being whisked off to another room to be witnessed to and such.

That was a real downer.

Brother Love and I went to one of those when we were in 7th grade. It truly freaked me out, and not in a good way.

YDDD, I wasnt being sarcastic!

And I'm an ex-Lutheran/Quaker,......now an atheist,.......so, im not worried about hell.

And weeny, as far as haunted houses being traumatic, thats silly.
I think they are stupid/fun if anything, I guess the best/worst experience I had was in the sticks of Virginia, where everyone running the haunted house in the woods, were drunk. One guy with a chainsaw pinned this old man up against the wall, and wouldnt let him loose. Those were the scary ones, where drunken rednecks have real chainsaws!

On a related note, my mom has a REAL ghost story, from her college days in gettysburg. I think she was just really high though, but apparently she really thinks she saw a ghost. Yeah, my family is crazy. My mom used to go to the trees and "talk to the trees to decide"......very eccentric

My apologies to you both, in that case.... maybe you aren't hell-bound after all.

smile.gif smile.gif

And just to clarify.. the haunted house wasn't what was so traumatic. It was going into the room with the people afterwards... they said "Praise the LAWD! Jesus has saved another! Hal-le-LU-jah!" There was cheering , jumping up and down, and I was all but forced to hug numerous strangers. All because I happened to look up to make a "how-much-longer?" look at one of my friends standing nearby.

It was all very overwhelming... especially since I just wanted to leave hell..

Me and two buddies did that a few years back and it was a blast. I was Dim. We started at a school party at 328 (RIP) and won the costume contest (with a narrow margin of victory over a group of Madonnas-- the singer, not the virgin). Then we cruised up and down 2nd Avenue with chains and sticks in hand listening to everyone snicker and gasp at our enormous packages. Several asked if they were real. We didn't answer. We went to Lonnie's for awhile until some pricks asked us if we wanted to join the KKK, and we promptly left. On the way to the car, my friend (dressed as Alex) was so drunk and so into the character, he wanted to beat up some homeless people we passed by. I, of course, talked him out of it. He did take a leak in the alley, which was cool.

This year's costume is a secret.

Rent "Hell House" if you want to relive this experience. I thought it was funny and offensive at the same time, and I also thought it was totally bizarre and could only exist in Texas until a coworker described a similar thing she had attended and said it was "really neat", especially at the end when you see a live portrayal of Jesus on the cross. It was then that realized I was in my own personal hell (house).

My Dad took me to the Haunted Woods when I was little - I was so brave at the beginning since I had my pink plastic Crucifix in my coat pocket and brandished it against the Vampires for protection. Unfortunately, by the time we were halfway through, my Dad was carrying me and I was just screaming the whole time. At the end when I thought I was safe, my Dad put me down and "Jason" came out and chased me with the chainsaw - I ran out screaming only to slip and fall in the mud. It sucked.

I'm probably going to be Austin Powers this year, which is extremely easy and totally unoriginal. I really can't come up with anything else. I'd like to do a group dress up as the Fab Five from Queer Eye, but we would all want to be Carson...man...

Group dress-ups are always the best, but the girls usually get the short end of the stick. Case-in-point: "the Dick Van Dyke Show." What girl wants to be Rose Marie? ph34r.gif

I haven't decided between 70's Burt Reynolds and the Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase. If Brother Love would be Irwin R Schyster, we could be Money Inc. and PFMO could be Jimmy Hart. It would be tight. Another thought includes Paul dressed as Virgil. If I could pull it off, I would be post-haircut Ravishing Rick Rude. Yes, Rick Rude...I may have to do that...Sina will you be Sensational Sherri???

exliontamer and Parrish should be the Hart Foundation

Sina will you be Sensational Sherri???
No such luck. She's already informed me that she's too cool for Halloween costumes.

I dig the wrestler themes. Go for it!

She and I are gonna have to talk about this. All she would need to do is tease her hair and wear some cat-like make-up. I think I am going to be Rick Rude, just because I want to oil myself up and wear tights with someone elses likeness on them.

I am now torn between Austin Powers circa "Goldmember" and Han Solo circa "Empire Strikes Back."
My vote is for the latter, especially if you're talking circa late-"Empire Strikes Back". That would be wicked.
You're right. Who volunteers to hose me down in cement/carbonite?

I never could find a decent Wonder Woman costume - only the crappy polyester ones in the plastic bags that somehow still cost 50 bucks. Booo. I have to be something else.

i want to dress up as an 80s lego space man. it would be really hard to make a costume like that though.
You mean like this?
that's the idea, but something about that guy reminds me of nascar. i like the original space system.

I haven't decided between 70's Burt Reynolds and the Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase. If Brother Love would be Irwin R Schyster, we could be Money Inc. and PFMO could be Jimmy Hart.
You should definitely be DiBiase. I thought Brother Love was going to be 9/11.

I still think you should be Burt Reynolds. Brother Love better still be 9/11. I was looking forward to that.
But what will happen to the boy when the circus comes to town?

I think he is referring to the ECW wrestler, not the terrorist attack.
I TOTALLY AGREE!

I just thought he was saying that in passing. I encourage him to follow through with that.
