TOPIC: Haunted Woods

Has anyone here been to any "haunted attractions" this season? I'm getting a sizable group together and we were wanting to go to one of the outdoor events (the woods are sooooo much scarier than that indoor stuff). Both The Body Farm at Nashville Shores and Death Valley in Hendersonville look good. I do realize that for the most part these things are lame and overpriced, but I just can't resist. I went to the Death Row Haunted Prison last year and actually had a pretty good time. I guess it depends on you attitude and your company.

So, anybody been to either of these (or any others)?

i hate haunted houses/attractions. too scary for me. i know it's all fun and games and whatnot, but a hockey-masked guy with a chainsaw is still scary.

Wow, I'm happy to hear that these things actually scare people. I think it shows that one has a good imagination if they can let themselves be scared from such a comercialized affair. I don't get too scared at these things to keep me away, but I do admit to getting a little "tingly" from time-to-time.

The Body Farm at Nashville Shores...
LOL! That name is priceless.

I'm not frightened by haunted houses, haunted woods, or anything like that, but I still love to go, because it's fun. And I love to see others get really scared. The best Halloween venue ever was Opryland. They had special Halloween shows, people all over the park dressed up to scare park patrons, and a walk-though haunted house. Plus, you still had all of the rides. Thinking about this is making Jamie very nostalgic. Oh, Opryland...why did you have to die?

I totally agree JC. Opryland was so much fun pre-8th grade before I had friends...now that I have friends I'm sure it would be even more fun. But no. It had to be destroyed and have the land sullied by that soul-sucking-structure known as "Opry Mills." The "Mills" effect must include exhaustian, depression, and nausea because that's what I get everytime I go. But anyway, Opryland's Halloween (and Christmas) stuff was so spectacular.

I've been to the Haunted Prison twice now. The maze at the end will separate any large group, guaranteed.

so true. the first time we went we used my friends indiglo of her watch to keep us all together and we barely made it. this past weekend however i wasnt paying attention and didnt realize i only had one person behind me and got seperated for at least 20 minutes. it was really fun though. once you get in its not that scary its just when you wait outside and imagine what sort of scary things could be in there that makes you pee your pants.

I went to the one at Nashville Shores 2 years ago & it scared the shit out of me. It wasn't called Body Farm then, though. Even though you know it's just normal people jumping out at you from behind trees in the dark, it can be terrifying if you let it, which makes it worthwhile.

I've only been to the haunted prison... I had to hold Digsy's hand. It was embarassing.

Ray Davies: could your dislike of haunted houses be linked to a fear of skeletons??

my fear of haunted houses could indeed be linked to my extreme fear of skeletons. they scare me to death. just thinking about them makes me shiver. scary. unsure.gif

Ahh..Haunted Forests and Houses rule me! I love those things. I can't resist going each year. There is no rational fear involved in my going, but the fear that those guys with chainsaws may have somehow forgotten to remove the chains before tickling my legs with them always creeps into my mind. But, I am halfway crazy, so who knows?
Anyway, I plan on going with my roommate to one of the ones around here in the next week or so. Oh, and the haunted prison thing sounds pretty neat..Just thought I would throw that in there.

Now Opry Mills is the scariest Halloween venue with all these huge and useless stores marketed as outlets, and they don't even lower prices! And those kids! They're middle school and they're thugs and they're Nihilists and....and...AAAGGGH!

I had the pleasure of working for 2 Halloweens at the Haunted Cave in Oak Ridge. I'm not one to really observe Halloween, but hiding on a rock embankment and jumping out to scare people in a dark cave is still very high on my list of fun things to do.

I hate kids who have such stereotypically defined personalities in middle school. I was lame in middle school. Everyone was lame in middle school. Don't try to be all deep with your chains and your Fubu...just enjoy watching Nickelodeon before you become too old is what I say.

And Halloween is the second best holiday I can think of (after Christmas of course). I wish it lasted all week...there are so many things/people that I want to be. But after purchasing my bloody awesome ascot yesterday, my Charles Nelson Reilly costume is complete and looks mighty spiffy. Way-hey for Halloween.

I once had to drive through Adams, TN on my way from Indiana. That place is a creepy town by itself, not to mention the Bell Witch Cave, House, and Cemetery. Also, there's the old railroad legend that I'm going to go see if it's halfway true up there. A group of my friends just came back and said it was scarier than any Haunted House. (If You sit on the tracks at a certain time, your cell phones turn themselves off, and you see the light of a man's lantern coming toward you as he's looking for his head.) Definitely easy to scare yourself in Adams.

Is this the Haunted Cave that's actually in Knoxville (though, come to think of it, it was awfully close to Oak Ridge)? If so it's Cherokee Caverns and they had a haunted cave for a number of years. I went once mainly because I wanted to see the cave but it was sad to see the thousands of damaged formations that cave has.

I must say that middle school was HELL. The hormones, the dirty girls, the thug guys, the awkward dances...everyone was horny and all so darn tempermental. I mean, I got into two fights in middle school. Two. All game-show-lovin' 5'6" of me. Middle School. It's a drug.

It is the same one, and it is actually in Oak Ridge. I know nothing about caves, but I wondered about that while I was in there. I know in many caves, they're particular about where you can walk and things. They let every one run wild down there, and I wondered if it was causing damage.

It can't cause anymore damage than the good old local nuclear power/ bomb plant...anyone who goes there might not want to drink the water unless glowing in the dark is part of your Halloween plans

Okay, so we hit the Death Valley Haunted Woods in Hendersonville last night. It was $10 and it lasted about 35 minutes after a short 5 minute wait. All in all, it was very standard stuff, but I have to say we had a dern good time. I think it's all a matter of who you're with and how "into it" they are. It's better if you actually TRY to get scared. It's especially good to be there with someone who is a bit squeamish (sp?). My roommate's girlfriend was there and we were having a dandy time try to scare the hell out of her ourselves.

I wanted to go to the Body Farm, but I heard it wasn't as good as Death Valley.

The glowing only lasts a day or so, and then you start bleeding through your orifices for another day or so, and then you're just fine to enjoy some good Halloween candy.
