I'm obsessed with it and it has made me realize just how insane the 90s were. Overall I don't think it is as funny as the 80s ones, but it is still highly addictive.

The best Michael Ian Black quote so far: (about rollerblading in 1991) "I can blade on yo momma's ass. Fuck ya'll, I'm goin' bladin."

I can't stand Michael Ian Black. Am I the only one?

He makes it hard for me to watch I Love the 90s, because they show him commenting on literally every single topic. But other than that, it's been great.

I've watched a few of them. I always forget to remember it at night, and whenever I see a rerun it's in the 1990-1995 realm. Oh well, I'll probably catch the rest later. It's been good so far, although it does seem a little early to me. Still, it's fun to see how much of it I remember...I couldn't do that with any of the other ones.

i don't understand this phenomenon at all. the best thing about the 90's to me was that it wasn't the 80's. i hate nostalgia. what's the fucking point? romanticising a time period that you weren't enjoying when it was actually happening? leave me out of it. also, what are they going to do in, oh, seven or eight years--i love the 00's? it's time to embrace the irrepressible fact that the idealogy of pop culture is bankrupt...the paucity of new ideas is staggering--television is case-in-point. they've resorted to this type of entertainment, which is basically regurgitating the past into your lap and saying "remember that, see what we did there, wasn't that great?" then there's all the reality tv (voyeurism and therefore exploitation in the name of entertainment) which is reprehensible on so many levels i wouldn't know where to begin...and that's all another thread entirely, so i'll stop my rant here. you can commence stoning me now.

i vote "yes" to michael ian black.

i love the 90s is good. it decreases in entertainment value as the year number increases. it just gets too recent.

i was scared of that dancing baby. this show helped me get over it.

my favorite part about i love the 90s so far is hearing hulk hogan say "suckin' on ba-bas" (in reference to all those babies that were born together...what were there? 6? 7? i wasn't paying attention. i was busy laughing at the "ba-bas"). i can't bring myself to stop thinking about it.

i love the 90's had me hooked.. but i agree that it wasn't as good as i love the 80s.. although i remember a lot more from the 90s..

1997 was my 7th grade year, as well.. and def my favorite from the series..

here's a question - what do y'all remember from the 90s that you think should be included in "part deux"? (the sequel to i love the 90s.. like i love the 80s strikeback)

my list includes mariah carey, jonathan taylor thomas... and did they talk about titanic? cuz i apparently completely missed that segment.. and if they didn't talk about it, then what the hell?!

There are a lot of things that were excluded and the only logical reasoning is legal issues. I mean, they did not even talk about Michael Jackson's Neverland press conference in 1993. That is a huge oversight in my opinion since that footage is on the same level as the Bronco chase in terms of overplayedness.

There was a lot of television that was excluded, specifically the NBC craze of 1994-1998 or so. Frasier, Friends, and especially Seinfeld were largely absent. Seinfeld was only referenced when they were talking about Martin. And Martin? That was not a huge part of the 90s. I was also wondering where Full House, Step By Step and the rest of the TGIF crew were at. Family Matters got a shout out (deservedly) but the others were just as significant. Was there any talk about My So-Called Life?

This leads to my rant about certain movies being included. No matter how popular they are now, The Big Lebowski and Office Space were not hits at all, especially Office Space. Yeah, we remember them now but I don't think anyone would name off Office Space as one of the most memorable part of 1999, let alone the 90s.

I can't believe that Ellen DeGeneres' coming out wasn't mentioned. I would have enjoyed some talk about Buffy or SMG as part of the 1998 teen-explosion. All that was mentioned of that was Dawson's Creek while TRL and all of the craptacular horror movies were overlooked. I also halfway thought that there would be some discussion of the X-Men in 1991 since the comic book market exploded beyond belief that year.

That's about it, and most of those are huge things that were overlooked. I want more.

Shit, when will people realize how pointless and ultimately un- or anti-entertaining this pile of excrement really is. I dont mean I love the (insert pathetic decade here) in particular but rather the state of so called quality programming as a whole.

Um...I dunno, but I think the big appeal to all of the I Love The... shows is that they are pointless and stupid. Really, I can't understand why people would get so worked up about these shows and hate them with such passion. They're just so fluffy and cute and harmless. I also enjoy the fact that VH1 as a network knows this and created Best Week Ever which mocks its own love of nostalgia in a very subtle way.

And I would ask what your problem with the 'state of quality programming as a whole' is, but Lordy knows that the two things I get passionate about are comics and TV. Good to know my priorities are in the right place.

And Michael Ian Black is the best. Hal Sparks is funny, but definitely in a more mainstream way. The ESPN guys also crack me up and boy do I love Loni Love.

Although I do kind of like some of the programming sometimes, overall I hate what VH1 has become. And no, I'm not just bitching that they don't show enough music videos. I just don't think the shows are any good. Best Week Ever sucks. A2Z sucks even worse. And all of their celebrity lifestyle shows? Without that little VH1 logo at the bottom of the screen, I would swear that I'm watching E!. And as if the show concepts weren't stupid enough, do they or do they not have the SAME dozen quasi-celebs commentating on every single show/special/countdown?!! Seriously!

All of them are guilty pleasures for me. We got rid of cable to stop spending time watching things like that. I'm never one to just be all, "Man, I love this!" but I'd find myself watching any of those stupid countdowns whenever they came on. That's why I can't comment much on this new series. I only saw parts one and two randomly at a friend's house.

Of course I did. Well, I think the police would use the term "home invasion" before they would say, "break-in." If I hadn't bound and gagged them, it might have just been a break-in.

"entertainment". i'll do it anyway, though. i've seen the shows in question, at least a little bit of them. just enough to know me that the one black lady off of mad tv irritates the living daylights out of me whenever she comments on anything. enough to know better. it's kind of the same thing as the "embarrassing pleasures" thread. i've disciplined myself not to listen to things that i would feel guilty about. i hate pop music--i'm not going to allow myself to enjoy anything britney spears commits to tape, i don't care what it sounds like. what this means, basically, is that i've eliminated things i could allow myself to enjoy to adhere to an underlying principle. perhaps a psychologist could be useful here, to tell my exactly why i am built like this...it does also somehow necessitate that i am less happy than everybody else around me at any given time, which is most unfortunate. so, in the long run, it's probably best to just ignore me when i say i hate something, because i hate everything...for i am a miserable sod. i know i sound like i'm about to go all "notes from the underground" here, so i'll stop mercifully short of that.

I can't stand Michael Ian Black.  Am I the only one?
I'm with you. He comments on every single thing, and is almost never actually funny. hmmm....
Sorry, I was being nice yesterday. By "hmmm..." I meant, "Sounds like Carl."
I TOTALLY AGREE!

Um...I dunno, but I think the big appeal to all of the I Love The... shows is that they are pointless and stupid. Really, I can't understand why people would get so worked up about these shows and hate them with such passion. They're just so fluffy and cute and harmless.
If you going to commit to hating ANYthing, theres no other way than to do it with passion. You really can't half-ass hate, the word loses poigniancy. Especially in the matters of cute and fluffy, it's all or nothin'. I'd have to say you were lying to say that this mind-numbing, trivial programming is harmless. Pardon me if I dont back down on this one.

bravo! i couldn't have said any of it better myself...cute? fluffy? harmless? people's minds shrink further & further into a state of complete instant-gratification-fixated oblivion while they watch their favorite hollywood gossip machine at work...wank, wank, wank...and then it's time for E news, which is exactly like the real news except massively unimportant and mostly fabricated by imbeciles...wank, wank, wank...and after that, you can flip over to station x and watch shallow people degrade themselves for money...wank, wank, wank. i'm not sure how harmless it is, truthfully. of course, tv has always been robbing people of thoughts, it's just that now it's worse; it's all LCD hits for the ADD kids.

yeah, me too. in fact, in a hypocritical mis-step, i quoted "mr. show" to marshall at the end of my post deriding television-watching....but "mr. show" certainly constitutes smart tv.

i, too, prefer "frasier" to "friends", and having an appendectomy under a saltwater shower of tiny razorblades to either.

You can say I'm lying, but I'm not. I consider myself a very smart television viewer and I don't see anything wrong with indulging in the mindless joy of a nostalgia-based TV show. It is not evil. It is not wrong. Pardon me if I don't back down on this either. But that's cool, different strokes for different folks.

I love television more than any other form of media, always have and always will. I love Friends a whole heckuva lot more than Frasier. Doesn't make me weak minded or unintelligent or brainwashed.

It now airs at 8 AM on TVLand every Sunday. And tomorrow, TVLand will be unveiling the Bob Newhart statue in Chicago. Every fiber of my soul wants to go, but every cent in my bank account is making me stay. And the fact that I only leave the state for Strokes concerts and when HSS is driving.

I had to give a presentation on The Bob Newhart Show for my history of sitcoms class today. My other one will be on NewsRadio.

Yeah, MTSU offers some nice classes during the summer. I took Selected Topics in Film: Buffy the Vampire Slayer during Maymester, and I'm now taking Seminar in Media Issues: History of Sitcoms. We learn how America's attitudes towards women and minorities have changed by viewing the sitcoms of the era. I love it.

i love the 90's had me hooked.. but i agree that it wasn't as good as i love the 80s.. although i remember a lot more from the 90s..

Yes, I am upset about Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Xena the Warrior Princess not being included in the I Love the 90's. I think that the I Love the 80's was the best. I do wonder how they pick what goes in the shows. I am sick of Hal Sparks commenting after EVERY single clip.
