TOPIC: If the Features were to make a music video...

what song would it be for and what would the setting be?

For me, the song: Speed of 33 1/3

the setting: very mod, 1966 Swinging London set. Like something straight out of "Blow-up". The band is performing on an English TV show like "Beat Club" or "Ready Steady Go!". Very vivid colors. Basically a performance video. No storyline.

no offense, but i think that idea is horrible..... since that song is so very narrative.

i picture a dim-lit video directed by spike jonze.
when the camera switches between characters,
(some guy and some girl)
the screen is translucent and a record on a turntable is visible behind the actual scene*, spinning a features record at 33 1/3 rpms.
the store owner lip-synchs the line "boy you must be crazy, vinyl is dead....
(then it zooms in on his lips...) "and that's the way it should be!"
good god that's heartbreaking....
the record store would be a brick building...
the shopkeeper would be.........er.....pauly from sopranos

throw in a scene where the 'vinyl police' chase our antagonist down an alley...... (because vinyl contraband in this world) .....little love scene ending-magic and wa-lah.. a perfect video

*like on indiana jones when it shows a train moving and a map simultaneously).

Interesting, overemo. That could be neat.

Did you know...

The Features actually made a music video once (towards the end of the Spongebath era, I believe). It was for 'Exorcising Demons' and it was a parody of old black-and-white horror films.

Songs that jamiecarroll would love to see videos for:

Buffalohead
The Idea of Growing Old
Blow It Out
Harold
Discotheque
Stagecoach
Circus

(Edited by jamiecarroll at 7:53 pm on Aug. 8, 2002)
Relevant: Prince, PT Anderson, Punk, Post-Punk, Purple, Party of Five, Peter Swanson, Peter Gabriel-led Genesis, "Peter Panic", Paul's Boutique, Potential Energy, Every Features MB member but me.

I would like to see a live performance of "See You Through" so that the magical handclaps could be caught on film.

Or maybe a video for "The Beginning" with lots of strobe lights, vivid colors, dancing...and possibly a storyline chronicling the beginning of a relationship.

Or maybe "Leave It All Behind" and it would be done "Ray Of Light" style but set in murfreesboro with the band performing at various locations in the Nashville/boro area.

if they make a video it should be of them performing live with a bunch of crazy shit going on around them. the guy that directed all of the cure videos should do it. he always has some good ideas.

I think they should do a video ripping off various skits from Monty Python. Roger selling Rollum a dead parrot. The four of them having a funny walking competition. Et Cetera

Oh, and during the hand clapping part, it will cut away to one of the Monty Python style with Matt bicycling on a huge bicycle/hands contraption with the hands clapping and Parrish will be riding a huge flying organ cowboy style.

This all sounded a lot better in my head earlier, I think I've taken too much acid.

I guess that should be the video for See You Through. I don't remember posting that. I must have been really tired. Or possibly drunk or otherwise troubled mentally.
