John totally rules as best songwriter.
But Ringo is a great great drummer.

i recently purchased the beatles anthology vhs set (igot it for 20dollars at cd warehouse.....it was a fucking steal) and i must say that george smoked a very large amount of "reefer" (as he calls it)back in his day.....

my favorite beatles (as of now):

1. George
2. Paul
3. John
4. Ringo

and for the record, the rolling stones version of "i wanna be your man" is a huge stinking piece of shit

I would expect that not to be too uncommon with the recent release of the anthology on DVD. This is an amazingly well-done series by the way.

I don't know enough about the Beatles to confidently rate their best albums, but I've always felt Revolver and Rubber Soul were their best all-around.

Note: Okay, I just realized this was in the wrong topic. That's what you get for having multiple Beatles threads I suppose. For the record, I don't have a favorite Beatle because I think the band is much greater than the sum of its parts.

Paul for me, of course.

I have a hard time choosing between John and George for spot number two, but I usually go for John, then George, then Ringo.

Paul sings more beautifully than any other person in the history of man, as far as I'm concerned. He's a fantastic songwriter and is just all around extremely talented. I find him irresistible.

John is equally as great, just in a different way. As are George and Ringo.

george
jon
ringo
paul

disclaimer: as far as the beatles music goes, i like plenty of what paul did, but i think post beatles paul is nearly dreadful. plus he seems like a bit of a jerk toward george a lot.

Then there was the whole "McCartney/Lennon" ordeal last year. He gets a big thumbs-down for that.

As far as the music goes, Paul was awesome. I even like a lot of his post-Beatles music. Ram is especially awesome, but Flowers in the Dirt, Off the Ground, and even some of the Wings stuff is good. In his solo career, I think Paul is a lot like Neil Young - for every great album, there's a terrible one.

John -- the overrated Beatle

Paul -- the man!

Fuck Paul. the only songs of his i really dig are Paperback Writer, Back in the USSR, Blackbird, Helter Skelter, Ballad of John & Yoko (yes most of it was written by Paul), She's Leaving Home, I kinda like Dr. Robert....i'm sure i'm forgetting a few others but the bottom line is John wrote 3 great songs for every 1 good Paul song.

I do love Jet, and Band on the Run is a guilty pleasure. The rest of his solo catalog I don't particularly care for.

I can hear the screams coming from jamiecarrol already.

I voted for, of course, George.

On the Beatles Anthology DVD, on the outtakes, it has Paul, George, and Ringo jamming at someone's house (I think George's) in 1996. George looks bored the whole time and is ready to quit when Paul says exicetedly, "Let's do one more.. an old blues jam!" George sighs and says, "make it a short one." Hahaha.. It's great.. And Ringo doesn't know what's going on.

My favorite Ringo quotes:

"But John couldn't be here because, (points up) John's in 'eaven."

"He showed me the cover of his solo album and I said, 'Oh! You're holding the times!' Never mind that his dick was hangin out."

Slipping off topic, there's a poster in Hard Rock Cafe in D.C. that I want badly. It's one of a young Ringo with a Santa beard and cap. It reads, "Ringo for Santa Claus."

george is definitely annoyed with paul there, and i think he's pretty high in the mixing board segment. he doesn't seem to know whats going on.

then there's that awkward part in the garden where paul and george have instruments and ringo has to slap his knees.

it's depressing to see them finally play together again and not find it entertaining because all they do are boring blues covers. supposedly they tried to play "let it be" and paul choked up. i hope that never sees the light of day.

Whenever people say that, I wonder..."have you really heard that much of post-Beatles-Paul, or are you basing your opinion on "Ebony and Ivory", "Say Say Say", and "Band on the Run" alone?" Yeah, there is a lot of Paul's solo stuff that is even unlistenable, but then a lot of it is amazing, and those amazing tracks help me forget about the bad ones. There's also a lot of John and George stuff that is unlistenable to me. Of course, they have some really good solo stuff, but not as much as Paul does, in my opinion. But, whatever, that's just how I feel about it. Believe it or not, there was a time when I liked solo John more than solo Paul...then, I sunk deeper into Paul's solo career and found that there was much more to enjoy than in John's.

People would probably say the same thing about John if he had lived past 1980. I'm sure he would have made some more questionable albums during the 80s and 90s, just like Paul.
