TOPIC: Is Winter Gone?
Posted  Saturday, March 1, 2003 at 12:56 PM
Post 1 of 20
It's so friggin' beautiful outside right now. I plan on getting off of my butt and enjoying the weather.
I checked out weather.com, and it says that we are going to have these kinds of temperatures for the next 10 days. On Friday of next week, it is supposed to be in the 60's (and rainy), but it's still gonna be in the 60's.
So, what do you guys think? Is Winter really gone, and are we going to have no more snow? Or, is it just a big tease?

Guh! I think that this happened last weekend, too. Beautiful in Johnson City, shitty in Nashville. No, round here, Stephanie, we haven't seen the sun since February 13. It's missing. To be exact, I read in the newspaper that there have been 129 minutes of sunlight in Nashville since Valentine's Day. Oh well. At least on Monday, it's only supposed to be partly cloudy.

OH, it is not gone. Don't get your hopes up too high. I'm sure it will be back down to about 18 degrees by this time next week. The winter will probably not be truly over with until May or so. Only then can we probably expect to have two days that don't have at least a twenty degree difference in temperature between them. I hate Tennessee weather.
But what will happen to the boy when the circus comes to town?

I think Nashville is a bit weather-paranoid. I check the Tennessean sometimes from afar out of curiosity and it has such exciting headlines as the fate of metro students due to excessive snow days, the record number of "gray" days, will there be flurries tomorrow, the haunting memory of the ice storm nine years ago, etc. It just seems a little strange to me. But maybe I'm just bitter because I'm in Chicago. I just think a little more salt and some more non-weather related excitement in the area would do the trick.

That's an understatement. Especially when snow/winter weather is concerned. It's been that way for as long as I can remember.

actually, my friend who lives in seattle says it doesn't really rain that much. it's just cloudy and overcast all the time. i don't know why that matters, but for some reason i felt like saying that. dry.gif
maybe i could sing along
to your neverending songs,
i'm just looking for some fun

due to being covered in 16 inches about 8 years ago, EVERYONE in the city of louisville runs out to get as many gallons of milk and loafs of bread as they can as soon as the weathermen announce a slight precipitation during the winter. It sucks for me because I normally really do need grocery's whenever that happens. heh.

Man, everyone in every city south of the mason-dixon line runs out to the store and buys all the milk and bread when the weather hints at snow. They do it in my hometown of Richmond, Virginia, too. Why? I don't know. Are bread and milk the essential ingredients of life?

Those two items may be essential, but I do notice that cigarettes leave the shelf hella fast as well.

I've always hated it when they forecast snow or even just a chance of flurries. Everyone and their siblings come to the store. That means that we have to call more cashiers to come in, and what 16 year old wants to come in on their afternoon off? I know I never did. I just wouldn't answer the phone if it said Food Lion. Well, I still don't.
But yeah. At our store, it's milk, bread, and eggs. One word of a 20% chance of flurries, and we are packed. It sucks.

I remember working at Kroger when it was Right before the new Year of 2000, when alot people where scared that something terrible was goign to happen. We couldn't keep any bottled water or bread and things liek that. I freaking laughed so hard at this guy, he came through my line with the biggest bag of rice I have ever seen in my life, An i was like why rice, if the electricity goes out then he won't even be able to cook it rolleyes.gif

I will say that today was fantastic. Really cheered me up after all the dreariness. I hope that sun keeps shining...and I hope it was just as nice for all those who live outside of Nashville. cool.gif

Yes, the sun was actually shining in Murfreesboro today. I could not believe it. I'm sure it will be gone tomorrow. It'll probably be raining again.

A Bill Hall Wannabe on Channel 4 said that it was going to be 50-60 all week with rain on Wednesday, I do believe. This is great...being able to wear less than 3 shirts will be amazing.
