Smoking gives you something to do. I only socially smoke but sometimes, when I had jobs where you actually had 15 min. breaks, I wished I smoked because it would give me something to do with it.

You should quit. That shit'll kill ya.

I hate the "I'm gonna die some day anyway" excuse or even worse, the "It'll just shave a few of the least enjoyable years off of my life" excuse. That's true, plus it'll make the years leading up to the end less enjoyable as well.

(Stepping down from the soapbox)

I voted "social smoker" because I look so damn cool doing it. Plus, the best way to escape the ass smell of some cigars is to smoke one yourself.

I can't imagine you doing something crazy like that, sina ; )

elt, was it a coincidence that your urge to quit came on The Great American Smokeout Day? I usually hate things that are "Great American" and "smokeout" has funnier connotations for me, but quitting smoking is a good thing. Lung cancer & emphysema are really gross & horrible ways to die. The American Cancer society suggests that you "Strike up a conversation instead of a match for a cigarette."

Then again, I had to put "social smoker", so read these as the words of a hypocrite. But I only smoke cloves, so that's ok, right? The fact that they make my nose bleed can't mean anything bad...right?

Well, I voted for "social smoker," but I really consider myself a non-smoker now. I haven't really been a smoker since July 4. I'll bum a Camel Light (the best cigarette in the world) from deevol every once in a while, or I'll buy a pack of cloves every once in a while, but smoking is definitely not a part of my daily routine any more, nor is it a part of my social routine. It's just an every once in a while thing.

in my social smoker days i'd either smoke dunhills, nat sherman classics, or gitanes. it's funny to think about, but those were most certainly my sassiest days. everything was about the looks back then. i've since settled down and learned to appreciate things more. however, just when i think all of my sass has left me, it creeps back up and makes me obnoxious for a day.

pure coincidence. cloves are actually the first thing i smoked when i was 14. it was like trying a new tasty candy. i've since grown to loathe the smell of them. now it's camel lights(or marlboro mediums if they're cheaper). i smoked menthols for about a month. those are terrible. it would be very hard for me to quit. i associate it with listening to music. if i'm making a mix cd(or tape...r.i.p.), i smoke 1 cigarette for every two songs. i stopped for 3 months before. i got very preachy with all of my friends that smoked.

hahaha... so you keep tally of how many you smoke per song? at least you're very aware of what goes on.

I'm actually mildly allergic to cigarette smoke, so I think that smoking a cigarette would kill me. I used to be so allergic to it when I was in middle school, that I couldn't be in the same room as somone who was smoking, or my throat would swell. Then it would become hard for me to breathe. Scary stuff.
But, thankfully, my allergic reactions have calmed down quite a bit. If not, I would have to sit near windows or something at shows. Now, I just get sick the next day if I am exposed to it for a long time (like at The Attic last week). I actually had to call into work for that one. But, I would do it 100 times over if given the chance.

man! i normally don't drink beer and i did the other night. if you didn't notice, i'm so not trying to be sassy when i'm drinking beer. there's a thread somewhere around here where i even said if i'm drinking beer i'm looking to cause trouble.

hook me up with some e&j brandy and i'll be the sassiest, most charming and clever girl around AND i'll smoke a dunhill for ya.

Same here. The severity of my allergy comes and goes. It never exceeds one of my nostrils closing up though...so that's good. I also find smoking just plain disgusting and useless to start something that you will eventually quit at some point...but Richard Dawson and Noel Gallagher and Gambit do so eh...

wow, i feel like a big pile of shit. I stood right behind you smoking the entire time, why didn't you say something. I try as hard as possible not to offend people (or make them sick for a day, jeez) with my smoking habit.

I'm sure it wasn't your smoke that made me sick. It was the smoke in general. I've ridden in cars with people who smoke; my grandfather who I used to stay around a lot smoked. It's fine.
And, it's not like I am going to ask you to stop doing something that you want to do and the majority of the other people around me are doing. It's your choice. I know before heading into whatever venue I am visiting that I am going to encounter a lot of smoke. I just didn't expect for that opening band to go on so late or for us to be there until 1:45. So, the smoke really got to me. But, like I said before, I would do it all again. And, that means that I would have you stand behind me smoking the entire time again, too. biggrin.gif

I don't smoke. Asthma and cigarettes don't mix. So I don't, I'll still probably die from second hand smoking since I love places that have it so much. wink.gif

Smoking runs on my dads side of the family though, so I still would never try it, I might get hooked reguardless the astma or not. but I still can't pictures myself doing that.

I hate it when people continue to smoke when they have cancer and stuff. but knowing me I'd probably be like what the hell I'm dying from it anyway. Just as long as they are not in too much pain.

I don't smoke, but almost my entire family does. So I've been around it my entire life, and it doesn't bother me at all usually. I've told myself I will never do it because my intake of second-hand smoke is enough to kill me. I've never tried one cigarette, but I think if I did, I would probably hate the first one. Then, I would probably try it a second time and be hooked for the rest of my life.
But what will happen to the boy when the circus comes to town?

That's just the way I am! Except, because I have always been around it, I find it disgusting and would never try it. I'm in a peer pressure phase and I'm holding strong!

I've been around smokers all of my life and it really doesn't bother me. I don't smoke, but I used to maybe smoke every once in a while when i was a teenager, but still it never was much. It's probably been about 2-3 years since I've smoked. If I ever started, I would get hooked easily, so I stay far away.
