I braved the scary road into the Southern Baptist Church this morning to be with my mom. I'd say that was almost enough. But I heard something interesting while I was there from one of my mom's old friends. It sounds cheesy, but she said people ask what a mother wants on Mother's Day, and you can say this and that, but honestly all they really want is your time. An hour here, and hour there, just to let 'em know. So the gift is one thing that's prob neccessary, just make sure you accompany the gift, or the card with yourself.
Okay, no more cheesiness.
For every holiday that requires gifts my mom says, "All I want is for my family to get along and love each other."
And for every holiday we get along pretty well for the first hour or so of togetherness.. then we argue and yell at each other. I don't think it would be the same if we didn't do this.
ANYHOW.. all of these episodes are followed by the sarcastic "Happy Mother's Day, MOTHER..." (or whatever holiday applies). Then we all laugh at her and bond over ridiculousness of our holiday tradition.
So I don't think my mom really means it when she says that.. because it would deny her her moment.
