I usually go with a card and bath stuff or pretty candles because she always needs stuff like that. Sometimes I'll mooch in with what my dad gets her. Last year I got her a set thing of her favorite fragrance. This year I'm broke as hell so it might just have to be a card.

A gift certificate for a cut at a nice hair salon.

Massage Gift Certificates are good too....just make sure it's a nice "family" place...lol

Flowers are a sure winner for my mom since she hates scented lotions and such. Other house decor items are usually appreciated as well.

This year (like most), I was cheap and just sent a card. Maybe I will use the handy internet to send some last minute flowers as well. Gee, that sure would be nice of me. We'll see.

There is a small part of me that resents these sorts of holidays as being created by the Hallmark cooperation or similar. Probably not true, but I'm too lazy to research it.

All of these things are great suggestions.. but not very good for my mom. I should've mentioned that she has no sense of smell.. So I've gotten her smelly stuff before and she's been like.. "Well, I'm sure it smells lovely." I can't say that I blame her.

It's like waving at somebody with no hands.

Any other suggestions?

Yeah, that is a pretty cocky thing to do. Wave at someone with no arms.

I put a roof on the house for Mother's Day, maybe you can do that.

This makes me think that you're a great gift giver and have a mom with some taste.

I have much more respect for the carroll family now.

yeah, my mom's b-day is a few days away too. for mother's day i got her a card, a massage gift certificate thing, and i'm cooking her dinner. plus i got her some flowers that are really pretty but they smell like poo...i can barely stand to be around them. for her birthday me and my dad are getting her, along with other random stuff, a second storage building to go behind the house (so she can put some of the crap she pointlessly buys at yard sales every week in it). so, yeah...if you need to buy your mom a storage building, pm me for some tips...

I finally bought my mother Steel Magnolias on DVD. I absolutely hate that movie but she used to rent it all the time.

Oooh, I love Steel Magnolias. Yes, I know it is cheesy and all that, but I still like it a lot. I bet your mom was very happy.

Wouldn't it be ironic if she already had the O. Henry set?
Sorry, I couldn't resist.

I braved the scary road into the Southern Baptist Church this morning to be with my mom. I'd say that was almost enough. But I heard something interesting while I was there from one of my mom's old friends. It sounds cheesy, but she said people ask what a mother wants on Mother's Day, and you can say this and that, but honestly all they really want is your time. An hour here, and hour there, just to let 'em know. So the gift is one thing that's prob neccessary, just make sure you accompany the gift, or the card with yourself.

Okay, no more cheesiness.

For every holiday that requires gifts my mom says, "All I want is for my family to get along and love each other."

And for every holiday we get along pretty well for the first hour or so of togetherness.. then we argue and yell at each other. I don't think it would be the same if we didn't do this.

ANYHOW.. all of these episodes are followed by the sarcastic "Happy Mother's Day, MOTHER..." (or whatever holiday applies). Then we all laugh at her and bond over ridiculousness of our holiday tradition.

So I don't think my mom really means it when she says that.. because it would deny her her moment.

I was content to be able to take a short walk alone with my mom yesterday. She seemed fine with it, too.

I'm celebrating Mother's Day late. I'm taking my mommy to Chili's tonight. She had to work on Mother's Day, so she's cashing in her raincheck now. It probably doesn't sound like much, but my pops never takes her anywhere, so it actually means a lot to her. Why are men so evil?!? Oh, wait...

That's very sweet.
