My initial reaction to 'Africa' was just, 'What on Earth could Ernest ever do that he would end up in Africa? Could they not think of a better place?'

I changed my mind when I saw what a true work of art that film is. Forget scared stupid, only 'Saves Christmas' and 'Goes to Jail' can come close to competing.

Jim Varney...God rest his chain smoking soul. Gotta love dead Nashville celebrities.

'Ernest Goes to Camp' is one of my all time favorites.
You know you have problems, with both money and alcohol, when you find yourself shoving beers down your pants outside a Features show.

If there wasn't a Jim Varney there wouldn't even be a 'Nashville Film Industry.' I used the '' lightly.

I feel that I have a special connection to 'Ernest Goes to Camp.' It was rumored to have been filmed at a camp I went to in elementary school, which I kind of doubt is true. But I definitely saw Jim Varney at the Nashville Airport dressed totally in black when I was little and he said hello to me, which I consider a pivotal point in my life. And I went to church with one of the main asshole kids who burned the teepee.

Man, 'Ernest Goes to Camp' was one of my favorite movies when I was little. YaDaDaDa, 'Ernest Saves Christmas' is also great.
And, damon, 'Ernest Scared Stupid' ruled my world. I used to rent it all the time. In fact...I can't really think of an Ernest movie that I didn't appreciate. Jim Varney, what a great man.

'Dr. Otto & the Riddle of the Gloom Beam' is another Jim Varney that incorporates the Ernest character and many others. Watch it and we'll start a thread discussing it.

Isn't that Dr. Otto one really wacked? I mean like the whole crew who works on all the Ernest films got high on shrooms or something and did that one? Or maybe it was me that was high on... nevermind.

I was a huge fan of the show. I remember watching Joel's final show at UT in an auditorium filled with hundreds of people. Every joke seemed funnier. That's some I experienced with that show, the more the merrier.

Sweeping comments over the 100s of conversations going on in this single thread--

Dr. Otto is more messed up than any of the others.

MST 3K is absolute genius television and I love it.

Ernest did get bad after a while. He sold out to the corporate monster plaguing our nation. Drugs, women, corruption, mob ties...these are the things that killed both Ernest and Jim Varney. The movie industry has done a very good job of covering up all traces of 'Ernest Goes to Colombia' and 'The VernFather'...

Never saw the Cable Guy. Never wanted to.
