which ones do u subscribe to/ like best/ dislike?

i have a subscription to SPIN but ive been kind of dissappointed in them lately. they've been putting really shitty bands on the cover for a while.

the latest Q issue has the white stripes on the cover and i don't understand why meg and jack won't let me live with them as their humble servant.

AP is a very good music magazine and they LOVE tori amos.

rolling stone used to be my favorite magazine, but no more. i dig the fact that its not only a music magazine; its also political sometimes and news oriented, but its like they don't do stories about good musicians. they do stories about popular musicians. for example, n sync.

i guess you kind of have to have a corporate magazine reporting about music such as RS bc we can't ALL be underground music snobs.

i guess rolling stione hasn't changed that much. its just that the music has.
for example, in 1971 RS did an interview with john lennon. duh, he's awesome, regardless of his stature as a a pop icon.
these days, there is no john lennon. there is only zeul.

I subscribe to Rolling Stone. It's not exactly the pinnacle of music journalism, I know, but it's not as bad as the rap it usually gets today. They cover good music, they cover shitty music. I mostly subscribe to it because it's dirt cheap - I got a year for about $12.

I like Spin. I like Magnet. I like AP. I even like maximumrocknroll when I can get my hands on it. But no American magazine can hold a candle to the music journalism of the U.K. I love Q. I love Select. I love Mojo. I even love the NME and Melody Maker. British journalism is the best!

I love Q more than Spin and Rolling Stone (although I have a subscription to Rolling Stone). I read the White Stripes Q article today in Hastings, and it was quite a nice read. Not only that, but there was a Courtney Taylor-Taylor interview, a page add for "Welcome to the Monkey House", and a review of said Dandys album. Such a nice magazine.

To quote Jack White, "That's comedy taxidermy!"

I don't subscribe to any magazines b/c I am too cheap. I like Q, Uncut, and and Mojo. I love No Depression, NME, and Magnet. I buy those whenever I see them. I really wish that Magnet was published more frequently though.

JC, I thought that Melody Maker didn't exist anymore. Not sure why, but anyways...

I got the annual Playboy Sex&Music issue a few months ago. There were some good tidbits I suppose. Man, that would be a great mag if it weren't for all those offensive pictorials of unwholesome ladies.

Is that so? It just goes to show how long it's been since I went to England.

Uncut
I used to get Uncut every once in a while, because they had cool compilation CDs with each issue. It's an import magazine with a CD and it was only about $7, which is pretty good, in my opinion.

I like AP and I read Rolling Stone when I get the chance. More often than not, I read Rolling Stone to see whether my theory about their rating system is correct. I don't think I've ever seen a 4 star rating given to a band that hadn't previously had commercial success with an album prior to the one that's being rated.

i remember those things! every year,w e would have a guy come an interupt class to show us all the neat shit we would win if we sold a certain number of magazines. for 5 magazines, you got a package of M&Ms, for 10, you got a little doll or some shit. then we would have a big ceremony and pass out the prizes.

come to think of it, that's really strange. i think my elementary school is involved in a conspiracy theory... dry.gif

We sold coupon booklets. And wrapping paper. We didn't get any cool prizes like that though.

I don't subscribe to any magazine.

I have a few (good) issues of Magnet, and that's always the one that I look at when I go to bookstores. I think there was one called Wire that I liked. It had Tortoise on the front once. Yeah, I always find something interesting in Magnet.
Why would you do that?

that is so perfect. it definitely sounds like a prize i would have been offered at some point [if not multiple times, but to different places like the carter house, chatanooga aquarium, or the capital building] in elementary school, too.

When I was in school, they would offer us the ultimate prize, the most coveted treasure imaginable... an in-school pizza party!

It's not a music magazine, but I enjoy Nylon's music-related articles and sections more than any other magazine I've ever subscribed to.

Yeah during spirit week we always had Tacky Day and stuff. This year they were a little more reasonable. I didn't dress up for any except Hawaiian day and I went all out.. any excuse to wear a grass skirt to school. I hope we have 80s day next year.

we had 80s day, pajama day, hippie day, and twin day. (that was good one) people would come as cows and hershey kisses and shit.
and once i think we had preppie day. everyone came to school with sweaters tied around their shoulders . . . and sweater vests...
it was weird. it was normal . . ., so that made it even creepier. it was like an episode of the twilight zone, i swear.
