TOPIC: My Life Has Changed

Years from now I will remember August 11 2002 as the day that one of the shining moments of my childhood came back to give me a warm handshake and a crisp 20 dollar bill.

What in the world am I talking about?

Call me sad, a geek, pathetic, inbred, a member of the Wu-Tang Clan...but it is none other than The X-Men Arcade Game by Konami from 1992. I downloaded it to my computer and...wow. Basically I have done nothing but play it for the past 4 hours or so. Heck, I'm a ninja master when I'm Nightcrawler!!

BUT I digress to the real point of this post...what is everyone's favorite video game/arcade game? Mine has to be the X-Men game. The detail, the characters (Dazzler, Storm, Nightcrawler, Cyclops, Colossus AND Wolverine!)...so beautiful.

In the arcade:

Lucky and Wild....
a game that combined first person shooters and driving games before the idea of lethal enforcers was even conceived!! Outrun was its main competition!!! One person drove the car w/ one hand on the wheel and one hand on a pistol. the person in the passenger seat just had a pistol.
the graphics were probably 16 bit... maybe 8, i don't know.... but it was 25c and both you and your friend could do some serious drive-by-shooting in the late 80s/ early 90s.....

Home console:

Final Fantasy VII....
THE best storyline of ANY video game ever. It took me 55 hours to beat this game. I cried when aeris died, i had no friends my freshman year except for cloud and barret. I was a big loser. i actually have two copies of this game because one is scratched slightly on the 3rd disc. The FMVs were a breakthrough in gaming technology and the gameplay was the most innovative of its time. This was the first (menu-driven) RPG for me and it has been my fav in the genre since.

But digsy, i remember the days of tearing up the huge ass X-men kit in the shady brook mall. Was it 5 players or 4? ...nothing but pure co-op action, making friends, pumping quarters, running to the change machine and losing your place, due to the large line behind you...i myslelf, was a dazzler fan..... but i played a mean nightcrawler... perhaps digsy, you could burn that program to cd-r for me and bring it to the boro show? i'm gonna wear a personalized tee that has 'overemo' written on it. i'll pay you back with a sweet sweet comp cd... ?? how bout it digsy? pm me....
the overly sensitve boy, the emo of emos....

I will confess that I suck at every single video game known to man. The only game that I have beaten was a Power Rangers game for Sega Genesis. But back to the X-Men:

There were two versions of the 1992 Konami game: one was a four player one-screen game that can still be found at the Smyrna Skate Center. The other was a two screen six player thingy. Each character even had it's own joystick and little bio next to it. It was awesome and I played it at the Rivergate Mall. Dang..fun times.

And if anyone is interested in downloading it, I found mine at xmenunlimited.com under the media section. Overemo, if you can't find it there I can burn a copy.

I remember my parents being addicted to that game. They would stay up all night playing...odd. I still have my old NES but I sold most of the games (including the original gold-cartridge Zelda!!!). I do still have Mario 1/3, Darkwing Duck and the Ninja Turtles Arcade game.

I was all about Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2 when I was growing up. That, and Super C(ontra). Nothing beats running left to right (and sometimes up and down) slashing/shooting everything in your way.

In college, Super Mario Kart was a staple on my dorm floor, but I thought F-Zero X was a much better rush (especially when intoxicated). The first Zelda 64 game is probably the most amazing game I've ever played.

I was ALWAYS nightcrawler when I played X-Men in the arcade. He was by far the best (and often the most underappreciated).

I always get the high score on Ms. Pac Man, but you can't put your initials in so nobody ever knows.

After analyzing the moves of the rest of the X-Men in that game, I have reached the conclusion that Nightcrawler is indeed the best player to be (with Dazzler coming in 2nd). His mutant power wipes out everything in sight. His fighting lets him throw people, kick people behind him, crouch and kick sentinels in their shins, everything. I feel dirty being anyone else but Nightcrawler.

And he is my favorite X-Man. I was him for Halloween two years ago actually. I had my car wreck dressed as him too. That was a sight....

I forgot to add how much I enjoy the new Star Wars trilogy arcade game. As a huge SW fan (I think I rank a 9.7 on the Geekometer) I do get a certain thrill out of piloting my own snowspeeder or blowing up the Death Star.

I definitely agree Damon, Super Smash Brothers sucks big time. Mario tennis or WWF No Mercy is a mush better choice. Anything but Donkey Kong 64 (A.K.A= one of the hardest games ever).

I must applaud DigsySlattery on his X-Men acquisition. A damn fine game if you ask me. I remember I went on vacation once when I was really young and I spent all of my time and money playing two video games, X-Men and Street Fighter 2: Tournament Edition. Those two games kick ass.

However, I must admit that nothing compares to a kick ass pinball machine, like The Adams Family or even better A Nightmare on Elm Street or Tommy pinball machine.

I can't remember the original Smash Bros that well, but Super Smash Bros Melee is awesome. Donky Kong 64 was not that hard, you just have to have some Nintendo skillz. No Mercy is one of my favorite games ever, but I'm a huge wrestling fan, which you may know if you've been on this board for a while.
I TOTALLY AGREE!
