TOPIC: NCAA Tournament of Features Songs.
Posted  Monday, March 11, 2002 at 7:10 PM
Post 1 of 17
This will work just like the NCAA college basketball tournament that is about to start, except it will involve songs that the Features play instead of basketball teams. Each 'round' of the tournament will last a couple of days. I will post the new round of matchups, and you can vote for which song in each matchup you like better by e-mailing me at: btpatton@comcast.net. I will tally the votes at the end of each round and post the results of which songs made it to the next round. A couple of guidelines are: judge each song not on any particular recording or performance of that song, but as a Features song in general. There are cover songs included. Obviously, judge these cover songs by the Features' version of the song, not the original. Here are the seedings:

(2) 33 1/3
(3) See You Thru
(4) Circus
(5) Stagecoach
(6) Burma
(7) Treehouse Club

(10) Button My Shirt
(11) Like a Virgin
(12) newer song with chorus
that sounds like 'Ooh La La'
(13) Extension Cord
(14) I'll Be Your Mirror
(15) Shiny Metal Objects
(16) M.E.

EAST
(1) God Save Rock'n'Roll
(2) The Beginning

(8) Radio One
(9) White Light, White Heat
(10) Waiting For the Man
(11) Discotheque
(12) I'm a Boy
(13) Femme Fatale
(14) Foggy Notion
(15) Stark White Stork Approaching
(16) The Most Annoying Song Ever Written

WHAT?!? This is a travesty... a mockery of justice!  Why in the world was '33 1/3' given a #2 seed?  That song has a much better RPI than 'Oh My Love' because it's been played at much more difficult venues.  :-)

Seriously, though, this is a great idea (and much better than basketball).  I'll send you my votes soon.

I pick 'Willy and the Willigers' as my upset special for the week!

my friend you never cease to amaze me.

I hate basketball. I mean, I **REALLY** hate basketball. But if there's any basketball that I particularly hate, it's college basketball.

yes lawnwrangler. i actually love college basketball. it's less predictable than the nba. i like how no name teams can come up out of nowhere and upset the favorites. it's hard to spend your youth in indiana and not be swayed with the masses. i've always found it odd how most musicians hate sports.

Can you comment on the number of votes cast thus far? Also, do you predict any first-round upsets?

Thus far only 5 people have voted, including myself. There are some surprising results so far. You can't bitch if you don't vote. What was it that Jello Biafara said, 'Vote your hopes, not your fears...'
