TOPIC: New Movie

Ok, so I was wondering if anyone has seen "28 Days Later"? Its the new horror movie that looks like a modern day version of Night of The living Dead. I was watching t.v. yesterday and a trailer/"special report" for it came on and sparked my interest. By the way, sorry to keep using the board as my new review panel, but I trust you guys' taste when it comes to music and movies. . . at least so far.

Since us employees can't see new releases for free until after their opening weekend, I haven't seen it yet. I definitely want to, and I'll get to it after I watch "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle."

On a side note, "Hollywood Homicide" was actually very good and "Wrong Turn" was actually very bad...

"Hollywood Homicide" did have its moments. But the Harrison Ford love scenes were icky to me despite my fondness for older men. Master P stole the movie...

"Wrong Turn" and "From Justin to Kelly" are the best bad movies I've seen in quite some time. I now want to see "28 Days Later" because it's from the director of Trainspotting. Free movies rock!

hollywood homicide was better than I thought it would be, but still not great, and I heard from one of my movie critic friends that wrong turn isn't great, but it's entertaining.

i keep hearing this about Hollywood Homicide...what the hell? I guess i'm missing out up here in the ivory tower...

I'm going back and forth on 28 days...I absolutely do not like horror movies but every one says that this is so damn good its going to revolutionize the genre. I don't think i'll see it but I am getting sick of everyone telling me how incredible it is.

I guess this'll do, since I was wanting to start a topic about this summer's crop of movies (I don't like starting new topics if we already have similar ones around).

I saw 28 Days Later and it was positively disturbing. It was very, very good. The acting was great (the head lady was in Nickelodeon's "Tomorrow People" for Pete's sake!) and the music was really cool as well. Overall, I'm very pleased with the movie. I would recommend it to everyone.

I saw both "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines" and "Pirates of the Caribbean" today. "T3" was very very average. It was fun and entertaining, with pretty much no substance. If I'm going to go see that kind of movie, "Charlie's Angels" will win hands-down everytime. Of course, getting to watch Claire Danes shoot big machine things with a gun was pretty cool.

"Pirates..." was really entertaining and fun. The skeletons were absolutely creepy, so Ray Davies better be prepared when he sees this movie. I thought Johnny Depp's performance was very quirky and clever and the overall movie was full of swash-buckling fun. I would recommend it.

I hope to see "The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen" pretty soon, and I hope it does not disappoint. So now I'm going to move on to the obligatory list...

Digsy's Best Movies Of The Summer...
1. "X2: X-Men United"
2. "Finding Nemo"
3. "From Justin To Kelly"
4. "28 Days Later"
5. "Charlie's Angels 2: Full Throttle"
6. "Hollywood Homicide"
7. "Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl"
8. "Hulk"
9. "Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde"
10. "Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines"
11. "Wrong Turn"

Yeah, there is a lot of thoughtless crap on the list. 3 & 11 are on it because they are so bad that they are highly hilarious. I also enjoyed 5 & 9 despite my manliness. "The Matrix: Reloaded" does not even rank. I would rather spend eternity watching "FJ2K" than seeing that crap pile.

So...um...what has everyone else thought of all the other movies that have come out that we haven't yet discussed? Just trying to turn the topic away from soap-operaness...

28 Days Later is well worth your seven dollars, or whatever it costs now. I saw it with Digsy and company the other night, and I thought it was great. Pretty intense and disturbing. One of the best scary movies I've seen in a pretty long time.

I'm very jealous of you Digsy for seeing Pirates... Maybe I can catch it sometime this weekend or next week. I'm sure it will be glorious with Johnny's eccentricity and whatnot.

I still want to see Finding Nemo, too.
But what will happen to the boy when the circus comes to town?

Agreed. I saw it the other night, and it is easily the best movie of 2003 so far. But it is pretty intense, so have your game face on.

For what its worth, I think the best film of the year so far is Spellbound. If it is still at Green Hills (I know it was at one time) everyone should go see it. More suspenseful than any film I've seen in a few years (I've yet to see 28 Days Later tho) and its just a documentary about kids in the national spelling bee. It says so much about America and represents so many different cultures and ways of life within our country... its really wonderful.

And don't allow my academic rhetoric fool you; this film is pure entertainment.

You may like grandma's yard gnomes, but I've seen Rock City. Remember it.

Here's another positive comment about it. I loved it! I always enjoy movies that make you think afterwards. Of course, I can't mention what I was thinking of afterwards, b/c some have not seen it yet.

I intend to buy it when it comes out on DVD. And, my friend Jon has the "infected people jerk" down perfectly. It's creepy.

I must add that "League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen" is not all that extraordinary. It's pretty bland and only marginally entertaining. It's cool seeing Dorian Gray in action (since that's the only one of these books I've read), but Tom Sawyer as a secret agent was just ridiculous and not needed. The dialogue, special effects, and characters were all sub-par.

So far this summer, "LXG" and "From Justin To Kelly" have almost neck-and-neck 10% ratings at rottentomatoes.com. Odd...

I still haven't read the comic, but the one thing that all reviews say is that the movie completely ditches everything (except for concept) that made the comic great. I can believe it.

Yeah, he is. It doesn't really make any sense. He doesn't fit in at all since it is set in London with English characters. He was just put in there so that it would have some sort of Americanization...and it shows. Plus his subplot with Sean Connery is very obvious and trite...

On a side note, "From Justin To Kelly" is coming out on DVD and VHS on August 26, a mere 2 months after it's theatrical release. I. Am. So. Super. Pumped!

It is by no means a movie that I seriously like. It is just the best movie to make fun of while you watch. It's just hilarious. It is the worst movie ever made and, in some ways, the best ever made.

I saw "28 Days Later" tonight and my opinion is mixed. It did keep my attention since it moved so fast and was full of action, it did make me think cause of all that end of the world stuff. However, I didn't like where the story went. It started out with such potential, then took some wrong turns I think. There is a great review of it up now on the movie's imdb.com page that I totally agree with.
I liked how it was shot on digital video. That's pretty sweet that low-budget films can compete with huge movie studios.
The best part about seeing it in the theatre is that whenever there was a quiet scene, or a character was warily looking around an empty room, someone in the audience would go "bshhhhue!" Like making a crashing noise. It made me laugh.
My friends and I also rented "Secretary" this weekend. I don't reccommend it as it is pretty weird, but I loved it.

I loved the directing in secretary. So many of those shots were perfect. And it was so tasteful, too, especially considering the subject matter.

Also, the alternate ending of 28 Days isn't really worth another price of admission.. sneak in.

I will do just that! But, since I don't pay anyway, it doesn't really matter.

I saw "Johnny English" today and it was a nice little flick. Pretty enjoyable...Rowan Atkinson is a very funny guy...I don't know if I would have payed money to see it though. I'd wait for it's television premiere, probably.

And "Pirates of the Caribbean" is just as enjoyable the second time around. Who woulda thunk that a pirate flick would be the blockbuster of the summer?
