STARS, STUNTS, FAST CARS AND BLUEGRASS AT DUKESFEST 2004
Celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Dukes of Hazzard
July 31-August 1 at Bristol Speedway
Bristol, TN (June 1, 2004) – When the folks from Hazzard County throw a party, they don’t mess around. The world famous Bristol Motor Speedway and Dragway will be the scene of Dukesfest 2004, a two day event (July 31-Aug.1) to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Dukes of Hazzard, the television hit that continues to thrill audiences of all ages throughout the world.
“We’re calling this year’s Dukesfest ‘A Southern Celebration,’” says Ben Jones, who played “Cooter”, Hazzard County’s ace mechanic and sidekick to Bo and Luke Duke. Jones will co-host the event with Catherine Bach, who played “Daisy Duke,” and other stars of the famed series. “It is already shaping up to be quite a get- together,” says Jones. “Kind of like a Southern Woodstock but for families.”
In addition to the appearances of the show’s stars, there will be two days of world-class drag racing at the Bristol Dragway, a super cruise-in featuring dozens of “General Lees,” two days of country and bluegrass music and a spectacular stunt show performed by the “Dukes” stunt drivers, including an attempt at a world record jump in the General Lee by famed stuntman Corey Eubanks of the Dukes and Too Fast, Too Furious.
The General Lee, of course, is the 1969 Dodge Charger which was recently named the most popular car in the history of film and television in a national survey conducted by a Detroit automotive polling firm.
The stunt show will take place on Saturday, while Sunday’s festivities will feature a parade of General Lees around the famed Bristol Motor Speedway half-mile track. Another Sunday highlight will pay tribute to Virginia and Tennessee Bluegrass on the main stage showcasing live performances by Dr. Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys, Jesse McReynolds and the Virginia Boys, The Lonesome River Band, BlueRidge and The Travis Wetzel Quartet.
“Dukesfest will have a little something for everybody in the family,” says Jones. “There will be plenty of activities for the kids, cars and stars galore, a spectacular stunt show, championship drag racing, and the very best in bluegrass. Fast cars, pretty girls and great music -- It don’t get much better than that. Just like Hazzard County!”
Tickets for Dukesfest are $15 for a single day or $25 for a two-day pass. Children under 10 are admitted free of charge. Advance ticket purchases will qualify for special grand prize drawing, including a ride in the General Lee. Tickets may be purchased at the BMS ticket office at (423) 764-1161 or at Cooter’s Place (865) 430-9909 in Gatlinburg, TN.
