TOPIC: Old School Dances

I saw the topic named, "butterfly," and for some reason, all these dances we used to do in middle school came flying back.

What dances did you used to do? Hell, what dances do you do now?

I personally remember the butterfly (of course) as well as all my dumbass friends doing the macarena. That's right! I said it! MACARENA! That is easily the most annoying dance ever created. I've actually seen friends burn the Macarena Single CDs. (That, on the other hand, was awesome.) And, when my exroommate and I feel reallly fiesty, we break out the roger rabbit or the running man and laugh our asses off at how stupid we were. Yeah, I'm cool. I know.

Yeah, we had the roger rabbit & the running man... There was always the good old electric slide and some random folks trying to vogue....

I remember the macarena and being too modest to shake my booty at the end.

I also remember we did some sort of dance in gym to the Space Jam soundtrack. I think I still have that around somewhere. And the electric slide. And our group did a cute little routine to "Summer Nights" from Grease in the fourth grade recital.

I would kill to be able to break dance.

I always dreaded going to gym class in elementary school, first of all because I would have to participate in phsyical activity, but secondly because we would do the stupid "Opposites Attract" dance and "Achy Breaky Heart" and all that junk.

I also remember the one school dance I ever went to...I believe "The Tootsy Roll" was the big thing then...I chose not to participate...
But what will happen to the boy when the circus comes to town?

I went to my first dances (including the prom) this year as a teacher.
I can't grow a beard, and I don't like to party.

You know.. I was thinking back on all this school dance stuff.. in middle school it was the one social activity I was allowed to attend. Now I am apalled when I think that I was allowed to slow dance with boys at the age of eleven to "I'll Make Love to You" by Boyz II Men. I think that sends out a bad message.

As for now.. my favorite dance is the Perkulator..... or is it the Twirkulator???

Someone please correct my spelling.

you have a very good point here. i shudder just thinking about middle school dances. the lame ass - not really touching - dancing; avoiding eye contact, and the boys to men.

in 7th grade gym class, we had to form groups and choreograph a dance. my group chose janet jackson's 'miss you much' and i was in charge of creating our outfits: puff-painted purple t-shirts and black sweat pants. i'm not much of a dancer.

I remember that... same high school I think. My friend and I choreographed one to "Like A Virgin".

The girls' gym teacher (had wacko "triangle hair") was all cool with it and saw us do it a million times, but then after the big show in the "theater" she denied ever having heard that we were performing to that song.

Every song had to be approved after that...lol
