I went to Toys R Us tonight with my roommate, and we bought an Easy Bake Oven. Remember those things? Well, it got me thinking about the things that I used to love, like Saved By the Bell (in another topic on this message board) and Uno. We are gonna play that tonight. What are your all's favorite things from when you were little? Oh, and I can't forget Alf. What about you all?

MY LITTLE PONIES! i must have had 100+ go figure. and shrinky dinks! and naptime! alf definitely rocked-i have a stuffed rock star alf from burger king from when i was 7. it always freaked me out that he wanted to eat the cat on the show, though. lawnwrangler, deevol and i saw a car on the interstate with two stuffed alfs in the back window today. it was great. there were two old ladies in the front which made it even better. man i could go on all night about my childhood. i shall refrain. i dont want to get bummed. growing up sucks.

new kids on the block.
reading that just made me bitter.
see, when they came out, everything in my fifth grade body told me to like them. but at the time, my best friend's cool high school brother said they were gay, so i, wanting to be cool too, refused to like them, refused to buy any of their tapes, shirts, buttons, calendars...i never had the opportunity to unleash that fan club urge that was swelling within me, and this has led to an unnatural desire now to make poster board signs and paint my face and stand in the front row and cry and shit at shows. the problem is, this is inappropriate behavior at the high brow indie rock shows i attend. i'm only starting to let the healing process begin, but if i don't find an outlet for this built up desire to be in a fan club, i fear i may soon explode.

thank you for letting me share. if there is a method of intervention or therapy anyone may reccommend, please let me know.

OK guys, I am trying to remember who made this toy that I used to have. It was a record player minus the needle, so really it was a 'play' record player. I had these really thick plastic records that played nursery rhymes and other little tunes whenever I put them on the player...I am guessing that Fisher Price made it. Does anyone know what in the hell I am talking about?

I believe that this is the item to which you are referring... the Fisher Price Music Box / Record Player.  (It's currently listed on eBay for about $20 if you want to reclaim some of your youth.)  The grooves and bumps on the records were so big that you could easily see them.  This toy is what helped me to understand how records and CDs word.

AHH! it's amazing that someone else knows and loves lancelot link.  i have this joke with my dad & sister from this show:  at one point someone yelled 'chimpeees!' and the chimps did a dance to this little song.  if i say 'chimpeees!' at random to my dad & sis, we break into that little song.  i'll sing it for you next time you come to town.

My favorite thing to do as a child: Play baseball, gosh I miss baseballl. I really need to get my friends in gear and get a game going.

As for music, I have a brother who's 8 years older than me, so I was in love with GNR, AC/DC, Poison, Motley Crue, Whitesnake, et cetera

Oh yeah, The Bangles....the lead singer's newphew went to my high school...which lead to funny exchanges like this, 'Hey Jasper, how's your aunt' 'Umm, I don't know, how's your aunt?'

I've made a discovery on this message board that I watched far too much TV as a child, but my credibility is shot anyway so...
I actually didn't discover until years later that Fifteen was Canadian, but when I watched, I always thought something was off in the way they spoke. It did have 15 year old alcoholics and making out, though, which is more than I can say for Clarissa Explains It All or Doug.
I think Welcome Freshmen was Canadian, too.

Yeah, Welcome Freshmen would be my next guess for a Canadian show on Nickelodeon. There were a lot of sexual references on that show, too. Guys going in the girls bathroom...things like that.
I know that I watched WAY too much TV as a child. I was always doing that or playing outside. The funny part is that I dont even watch TV that much anymore...

I can think of a few adjectives to describe 'Out Of Control,' but 'good' isn't one of them. However, rumor has it that Dave Coulier met Alanis Morrisette doing their respective Nick shows, which led to a relationship that subsequently resulted in the story told in 'You Oughta Know.'

Alanis went down on Dave Coulier in a theater? Eww!

I thought 'Wild and Crazy Kids' was one of Nickelodeon's weaker productions. I think I remember thinking the blonde guy host was cute, though.

Best Nickelodeon show of my early years--Today's Special. Sam the Bodyguard was a badass.

Best later years Nick show--Are you Afraid of the Dark. That was scary as hell.

Wasn't the host's name Donnie or something? He was definitely appealing to my preteen Abercrombie boy sort of taste.
Do you remember that magic store owner character that made repeated appereances on 'Are You Afraid of the Dark?' He had long curly hair and gave me nightmares. And what the hell was that stuff the gang threw on the fire at the end of the stories?

Very good questions etcetera. I'm gonna have to do some research on the scary old man. He scared me shitless too. So, you're not alone. Of the campfire boys, I always liked the guy with glasses...you know, the leader. What was his name? Anyway, glasses have always appealed me, so I guess he was the guy I had the crush on while watching that show.

The leader of the group was definitely the most appealing, the intellectual of the Midnight Society. Can I humiliate myself further with my knowledge of awful TV shows and say that one of the girls on the show went on to play Cher in the TV version of Clueless.

Here we go: Midnight Society knowledge. The leader (and founder) was Gary. That was the cute guy, etcetera. The guy that guest starred sometimes was actually TV's original riddler- Frank Gorshin. So, there are our answers. And, the show started on August 15, 1992. The first episode was about the cab ride. God, I am pathetic, too.

Sure do. That one was really weird. Do you all remember the one about the renegade virus? It had that little person who was painted all silver, and the kid was really inside of a computer game instead of in his real life?
Then, there were the ones about the Watcher's Woods and the doll house that a little girl was trapped in who was slowly turning into a porcelain doll. Oh Lord. I know way too much about this show...But, it was a good one.

And, speaking of SNICK (Saturday night Nick), did any of you ever see the Roundhouse? It lasted for about 4 seasons, but I remember the theme song and some of the skits really well. They had a movable set, and it looked like it was in this old factory building.  There was this really funny Chia Pit faux commercial that stands out in my mind.

And, check out this website. It relates to all of the things we used to watch.

Are You Afraid of the Dark might have been the apex of Nickelodean entertainment.

Did anyone watch 'Punky Brewster'? I distinctly
remember the drug episode, which was during the the 80's and Nancy Reagan's Just Say No campaign. It was so much more risque than drug episodes today--where morally-upstanding youth discover roaches in the school bathroom and immediately report it to the principal's office. Punky was offered a ziploc bag fun of cocaine and pills in her treehouse for god's sake. That's more like it. And her friend almost dying because she got trapped in a refrigerator?? These are the real problems that plague youth.

Yeah, I saw that too. There was something about how she was developing quickly while the show was still going on, and it was a problem due to the fact that she was supposed to be so young.

Yeah, my understanding is that her boobs were pretty massive. I was saying that they were developing too rapidly for the show, and that was a problem. She didn't get the reduction because of the show, but because of various problems with her back and things like that. That was my understanding at least.

There was this one show that came on nickelodeon that was called 'finders keepers'. it was a game show, and you had to find stuff in different rooms. I loved it. However, I spent most of my childhood watching MTV, and one of my most vivid childhood memories is being extremely frightened and freaked out by the video for Eddy Grant's 'Electric Avenue'.

I have known people like that, too. When i was little and watched Jurassic Park, I was thinking of DNA strands and splicing and stuff, rather than dinosaurs still being on Earth.
To relate to the stupid comment that the girl made about dinosaurs, I have been asked things like, 'Do people in Tennessee wear shoes?' That one was by a girl I met in New York.  Another good one that I heard the other night was, 'I went to Subway, and my tea was flat.' Now you tell me how tea can be flat. It can be too sweet or not sweet enough. It can even be over-brewed. But, it can't be flat since there is no carbonation. Anyway, I just laughed at her. I could go on all night about stupid comments that I have heard in my life. It's amazing really.

that's so sad when something that appears innocent becasue you relate it with your childhood becomes fucke dup. its like, have you ever seen the temptations movie? its like, 'aw, my girl is such a great song' and thern you find out that the guy who sang it was like a raging coke head and the other temptations hated him.

Ahhh...Real Monsters. That was a good one, too. I used to think the guy with all the armpit hair was gross, but the girl in black and white stripes was awesome. She seemed kind of witty to me.

At the bottom of the 'help' page, there's a link to the 'Ikoncode Tags.'  That page shows you how to do all sorts of stuff.

But, basically, you just put something like this:

Here's my favorite web site

It will show up like this:
Here's my favorite web site

Sadly enough, you know EVERY line, even background noises and side comments. It's quite entertaining watching YOU watch that movie.

Oh yeah..I'm bringing Old School Memories back.

For some reason Fragglerock has been on my mind lately, and I was wondering if any of you in your infinite wisdom could tell me if it is shown on ANY channel anymore. I caught the Care Bears a couple of summers ago at 5:30 a.m., so I haven't lost hope in getting to see all of my childhood shows just yet.

Oh, and for those new to the board since early summer, what are some of your favorite memories from when you were younger? That's what this massive 10 page topic is all about.

I know that Muppet Babies and Fraggle Rock used to come on Hallmark or Odyssey or whatever it's calling itself, but that has ceased to be in the last couple years.

I still live in my childhood, but here is my list:

Muppet Babies (the be-all end-all of my childhood obsessions)
Star Wars
GIJoe
1993 X-Men (aahhh memories)
Ninja Turtles (especially on Oprah)
Family Matters
Full House
Step By Step
Paula Abdul
Tom Cochrane's "Life Is A Highway"
Gin Blossoms
Phil Collins/Genesis ("I Can't Dance")
Pauly Shore movies
Transformers
Nike clothes/Spice Girls (middle school was evil)
Land Before Time
Dino Riders
Scary Nike shoes
COPS (Fighting crime in a future time! Genius!!)
NERF
Huge-ass plastic GIJoe playsets...beauty incarnate

I'm forgetting stuff I know...childhood rocked.

My friend still has some Reebok Pumps.
I had a Reebok Pump shirt in like 5th grade. It didn't pump of course (oh that would be hilarious if it did). It just said Reebok and had some early 90s designs in the background and then had a big orange dot that said "pump." It sucked cause the kids would punch me in the orange dot and say "pump! haha!" Stupid kids. I shoulda punched em back. Needless to say, I didn't wear that shirt often.

Oh no, I too was about 6-8 when I watched Hey Dude etc. I guess they just had long runs. I have about 6 episodes of Salute Your Shorts on my computer and I try to watch Pete & Clarrissa daily on Noggin. Noggin needs to start showing Hey Dude or Welcome Freshmen...

today's special was one of my favorite shows while i was growing up. sexy sadie is the queen of today's special knowledge. i've had very long conversations about today's special with her. (we're such dorks, i guess that's why we were meant for each other)

does anyone remember pinwheel? or count duckula? they both came on nickelodeon. they were great.

nickelodeon was fabulous when we were little kids. i feel sorry for little kids today. they got stuck with a sucky version of nickelodeon, especially when compared to the nickelodeon of yesteryear.
