I couldn't decide whether or not this was relevant enough to bring up here or not, so I thought I'd make it a poll for you to decide.

Anyway, I got engaged this weekend.

Our first official date was 5/19/01 to the Red Rose to see none other than the Features. Maybe that's what makes these things work.

I deem it relevant because it seems like our heroic Features had a hand in bringing the two of you together smile.gif

That is great news. Maybe you can get the band to play the reception? Hmm?

congratulations man....and to quote hank junior.

all my rowdy friends have settled down
and it seems to be more in the laid back songs
nobody wants to get drunk and get loud
everybody just wants to go back home
i myself have seen my wilder days
and I have seen my name at the top of the page,
but I need to find a friend just to run around
but no one wants to get high on the town
and all my rowdy friends have settled down

by the way, ultrarelevant
You know you have problems, with both money and alcohol, when you find yourself shoving beers down your pants outside a Features show.

Irrelevant!!! Who cares about you and your sappy love story? We can only talk about the Features on this board, and you can't post unless you've been to 20 shows.

Yay for being engaged! I hope you relish the JOYS of wedding planning, unless you get smart & elope. What a sweet Features-related story, though!

Thanks, all. I doubt I could afford a Features reception, but maybe they'll play the night before and we can do that instead of a stupid bachelor party.

So relevant that I finally decided to register and post. Thanks to all for your well wishes. My terrible computer connection and busy schedule prevent me logging on much, hence my username. However, the features did, in fact, spark the flame that resulted in mine and YDDD's engagement. This gives me one more reason to love them. I hope, though it is highly unlikely, that they last as long as YDDD and I do!

P.S. Any helpful tips, Lauren?

In general, make all decisions based on what you guys want as a couple & ignore outside opinion. Everyone seems to have ideas about what you should do, but really it's entirely up to you. If you need ideas for anything, check out the discussion boards at theknot.com- but beware that a lot of the people there are insane about weddings (in my opinion) & if you're anything like me it could scare you a bit.

I think it's smart to focus your energy & money on what's important to you (for us it's food & music) and just go with what's easiest for other things (for us flowers & decorations). Also, it takes effort to really plan things as a couple because wedding stuff is very bride-centric. If you let it, wedding planning can take up all of your time & oodles of money & become a hassle quickly. So, just keep your goal in sight & keep it a fun experience...or elope!

Yep & thanks. We've been together almost since before puberty, so it's not nearly as exciting & romantic as YDDD & token. But obviously a happy event after so much waiting, so thanks!

Fortunately, token hasn't been back lately. For a minute there, I thought I'd have to behave on the board. PHEW!....

Anyway, thanks for the advice. Sometimes our tastes do not coincide, and so planning a ceremony gets hard. She wants a string quartet; I want Free Bird. She wants champagne; I want Milwaukee's Best. She is deciding on growing her hair out or not for the wedding; I'm thinking I might wash my mullet....so many little decisions.

The only thing I can suggest are purple tuxedos. Nothing says I love you like a purple tuxedo...
