I wasn't aware there were any laws regarding pepper spray, in self-defense, anyways.
That's so NA.

I'd spray first and let them ask questions later. Claiming ignorance to the law can go a long way sometimes.

According to SelfDefenCe.com

PEPPER SPRAY REGULATIONS

Pepper spray cannot be shipped outside the United States.

Pepper spray is legal in all 50 states.

Due to the nature of the product, shipping regulations require pepper spray to be shipped via ground delivery only (air services not allowed). Possession and/or use may be regulated or prohibited by law in some jurisdictions (see below for known regulations). If there are any questions, check with your local police department.

Wisconsin - Special state formulation does not allow UV dye (see our Wisconsin Approved State Formulas)

Michigan - Specific pepper or tear gas formulations are required (see our Michigan Approved State Formulas)

New York - Must be purchased from a New York state licensed firearm dealer or pharmacist

Massachusetts - Must have Firearms Identification Card (FID)

Speaking of pepper spray, I'm taking a Self defense Class on campus.. An my teacher is so Pro-Mace. He told us to get 2 cans of it, one for practice to learn how to use it.. and one for attackers.. Afterall you should know how to spray it, you wouldn't have time to read the directions right rolleyes.gif

I always imagined that it would be about like hairspray or any other spray bottle type thing. Is it not? Is there some secret to it, or does it require some aiming technique?

Good point. You better be getting the child-proof kind. Olive and Chloe could have a grand old time with that stuff.

The bottle of pepper spray I have requires you to push a little glow in the dark tab to the side and press down and aim. It's not complicated. I don't know why one would have to practice. And it's nothing like hairspray. It comes out in a stream of liquid...kind of like a water gun.

I got mine a few years ago at a hardware store. That's the only place I've ever seen them at.

Are you saying my father's advice is from Jim Croce?

Now that I know Ray's feelings on Jim Croce, I can die a happy man... I was up all night last night wondering if Ray thought "Time in a Bottle" was a haunting tune on par with the masterful Zam Pheer and his pan flute, or if he just didn't care for the witty folk stylings of said Croce...

My sister did that with her mace years ago when she was "testing" hers out like the instructions said to, and I, the unsuspecting kid playing around the pool, was the victim. That stuff burned like hell, and I didn't even know what was going on, I thought I would go blind. I don't think the chlorine made things any better.
Why would you do that?

Yeah, I got pepper sprayed by law enforcement, though not a direct hit, & it was really bad for my skin. Also, the stupidest friend I ever had in middle school thought my self-defense pepper spray was perfume and sprayed it all over my room. I think it's like most "weapons" people buy to defend themselves- I think it's most often turned around & used on the victim by the perp

Also, found this at peppersprayinc.com:

"While pepper spray is legal for use against bears in most states, the use of mace and tear gas is not"

My roomate has some on a keychain, and she said it cost about ten bucks. It's also looks childproof, you have to push the lever over and then spray.
