"The Chinese Maze Murders" by Robert Van Gulik. Not a bad read, interesting if 7th century China intrigues you and you are in need of a good mystery.

To Kill a Mockingbird

God, what a wonderful book. It's delightful to read it again after all these years.

I just picked up "Generation X" off of my bookshelf to read again. Gonna see how dated it is.

I've been slogging through this biography of Adolph Hitler for the past 6 months or so. It was writtten by a Jewish Harvard professor. His argument in the book is that Hitler wasn't inherently evil. So far it seems like a splitting hair case, but fascinating none the less. Its just not one of those books you whip out on an airplane for fear of looking like a skinhead. Its also not a very light, breezey read. Lots of footnotes and thesis paper references.

I've been reading "Loser: The Real Seattle Story" from time to time lately. I have to admit, though, it pretty much reads like a family tree. Too many names, too many bands, too many "labels", too many clubs, etc. It's still pretty interesting, though, to read about Seattle as a typical run-of-the-mill scene that doesn't know what to do with itself when "grunge" hits big. Maybe we'll all know what that feels like very soon...

"Atlas Shrugged" - Ayn Rand
...The pellet with the poison's in the flagon with the dragon; the vessel with the pestle has the brew that is true...

I feel your pain, SOS. As a history major, I read probably just as much as you do. I am currently working on about three books. Each of them on fascinating subjects such as the first crusade, slavery, and historiography. I actually felt guilty for reading a magazine the other day because I knew that I should be reading history.

I love history! If I had it to do over again, I think I'd have majored in history.

I just read Cat's Cradle by Vonnegut and enjoyed it.
I also picked up "Look Listen Vibrate Smile," the complete anthology of the Beach Boys smile era as told in press clippings and essays. It is good as a reference book, but a little slow to read because alot of the articles say the same thing. Those 60's teen magazines had alot of bad information though.. I kind of wish the articles were edited. "Smile will be even more progressive than the band's recent album, 'Pet Animals.'
