It did go under new management. Everybody (myself included) freaked out when rumors spead that they were going to radically change everything and possibly stop having shows. Apparently, a majority of the staff was abruptly fired, but more recent evidence suggests many simply quit because they didn't like how they were being treated. From what I can tell, a few bands still refuse to play there following the "changes", but they still have regular shows.

I have nothing to back this up.

The record store is gone, the computers remain, and there are a couple of books around to read.
That's so NA.

Do they still have coffee, and chess sets?
The few times I went there other than to see music, was to participate in mind blowing games of chess, and drink a good cup of Joe.

PS. I heard from a reliable source that the little coffee shop near / and/or above New York Cafe is a hip little place to go, for a cup of joe. But I dont know, the name, nor if this is true.

I'm told it has pretty happening, although I have not been there myself. Seeing as though I'm neither hip, nor happening, I feel this is understandable.

My friend and I never went to the Red Rose until it was under new management. We'd heard all the rumors that they were going to stop doing shows, and we really loved the place, so we asked the lady in charge about it. She said (to paraphrase) that there will still be shows, but that it's a business and not a "community center", and that's how she's going to run it. I assume they still have coffee, because they seem to be mainly a coffee shop. We asked a while ago, but that's what I remember from the conversation.

That is not a good mentality to have, in my opinion. I should say, it's not a good mentality to have if you own a small business and want a better than average repoire within the community for a long-standing period of time. However, if you want to make a lot of money in a short period of time, then it doesn't matter so much.

I think she just meant she's going to have more of a business attitude, so that the Red Rose can stay in business. I only talked to her for about two minutes though, at a show, so I don't know that much about it.
