TOPIC: Reverting back to high school, for a moment

I have long since moved away from Nirvana, a band which was my mainstay and defined my high school years (I actually was in high school when Teen Spirit hit the radio. We listened to Nevermind everyday as we drove to and from school for a month). I think my moving away has had less to do with the fact that Kurt is dead and thus the band is no more, but more to do with my tastes have changed, evolved, whatever.

Well, call me a Nirvana fan again, at least for a few days, as I started reading about the infamous "You Know You're Right", supposedly the last song recorded as a band (there are other demos and stuff out there of just Kurt recorded all the way up to a few weeks before his death) and the most coveted song of the legal battle between Dave Grohl/Krist Whateverhislastnameis and Courtney Love. Anyway, the song was leaked onto the internet the other day and radio stations everywhere started playing it. It was played for an hour straight on a station in Atlanta. KROQ in LA played it multiple times. It made their top five at five. Stations everywhere not only played the song, but played it multiple times in a row until the phone calls and emails from Geffen started showing up telling them to "cease and assist." Anyway, I found the track. I think I'll put it up on the mp3 site for those who care (but I'll have to double check about this upload restriction right now due to space). You should be able to find it on Kazaa. Not sure about other sources like WinMX.

Wow now we can all finally hear what Courtney Love has raved about for the past...well couple years. I'm actually excited by this since I just "got into" Nirvana about a year or so ago. As soon as I get home I'm getting on the ol Kazaa.

I want to upload it but I'm seeing that any website that hosts the song is getting the letter and I don't want to do that to our friend in Kentucky, so hopefully you guys can find it if you want it.

I'm finding some interesting stuff about whether or not this is the official mix/edit that'll be released on the CD. It apparently was suppose to have one of Cobain's "best" solos and there's not really a solo present. Also, a couplet that's supposed to be on the song, and that Courtnery herself sings when she covered the song on her Unplugged, is also missing (I always knew it would come to this/I am walking in the piss). Maybe it was just all axed out for this final mix, or this is a radio mix or... whatever, it's finally out there.

Wow, this is a really great song! I got it off of Limewire.org This could easily have been a hit single back in the day. Unfortunately, I don't know if the kids these days would get it if it were played on the radio. I'm not sure if people realize just how much Nirvana changed everything about popular music unless they were in high school or college when Kurt, Kris(t), and Dave hit it big. Geez, I sound like such an old man...

Old perhaps, but wise.

I'd say it's fairing pretty well on the radio seeing as how over 200 stations have played the song that they downloaded off the net, many of which played constantly either in a row or on the hour and saw the song reach the most requested spots. A few stations have even been granted permission to continue playing it, like in Seattle (fitting). Now, after the initial excitement has worn down, does the song keep getting that kind of airplay? Probably not, but I think this initial response has been pretty amazing and speaks volumes about the void left in Nirvana's wake.

i've had that song for almost 2 years. it's kind of shocking that it's just now getting out. i haven't been to velvetrope.com lately to check the real status of the love vs grohl and novaselic case, but the last i heard it was about to be dissolved. and the love vs. universal suit was coming to a close.

btw. did anyone catch c.lo on mtv2 last weekend?

You had the song for two years? The studio version? Not the live version that's been floating around? If you indeed had the studio version for the last two years I salute you as I don't think anybody on the net has claimed to have it until last week.

i had all of the live version. i only have part of the studio version and i don't remember if it was because i didn't wait for it to finish downloading or if only part was available. all i know is eric is god for getting those tapes. it's been said that c.lo's house turned into a free shopping spree after kurt died. clothes, letters, and a couple of other tapes were taken.
anyway, c.lo has promised a nirvana box set.
