There are runaways from North Carolina at my apartment right now. I'm at work. My roommate answered the door. One is 15 and one is 16. What do you think should be done?

The Bush administration equates this as terrorism apparently, so I now declare this message board on orange alert.

The law is not on your side if you don't call the cops, so do it, and do it quickly.

It may seem like you're "turning them in," but you really should alert the authorities. Besides, if they're not runaways, you'd probably want to know that as soon as possible.

Option C: Play "Runaway Train" by Soul Asylum for them.

Besides, if they're not runaways
hmm? What would they be?

One of my roommates figured that we should try to get a hold of their parents rather than contacting the police and I figured I'd make a thread right quick to gel up for us what the best way to do this would be. You guys just confirmed my previous inclination, YDDD especially...

My room-mates and I were in a similar situation a few years ago. This 16-year-old girl that was friends with a room-mate's little sister just showed up at our apartment, saying she'd run away. She said she needed to live with us "for about a month." We let her stay one night and told her that she needed to move on.

If these runaways were like 11 and 12, then I would say call the cops or their parents. But with 15 or 16-year-olds, I would just give them the boot.

Keep them around and make them do all of your chores. They'll feel cool because they are "on their own" (ha, ha) and you'll feel great because you'll now have those maids you could never afford.

So how do you know these little fugatives? Or did random people just show up at your door?

I don't know which I would do but I know I wouldn't keep them around.

I think it would be fun to runaway. Just briefly. No longer then a week. But I dont think a week of freedom is worth the months of pure hell I'd get when I got back.

these two are kids that frequent another message board that i am a moderator on. apparently one of my 'friends' gave them my address when they said they needed a place to stay... they'd been talking about running away for a couple months now, but i never really thought they were serious.

When I got off work, I went to the grocery by my house and called the cops... they in turn called my apartment to check with my roommate on the status of said kids... at this point the kids had left and the cops told us to call back if they came back. We assume they went to get something to eat and will be back. Then, we will try to entertain them until the cops come.

I don't want to get them in trouble but for fuck's sakes, they have no way of making it on their own and I think it's the best route to getting them back home.

quick note: they were never let into my house, my roommate had been observing them from a window... we have all the blinds shut and doors locked... bah.

It's not like they'll go to jail for this. It's just one of those things I would in no way want to have to testify in court over, especially when they ask, "Why didn't you call the police?"

you'd have some questions to answer...

The Man: Mr. DaDaDa, could you explain "vagina junction" to the court? Is it not true that you run a brothel of runaway girls?
We'll miss you Mr. Hooper.

{shifting about suddenly} They said they needed train tickets! That's always the signal for me to take my piece out! I didn't know they were runaways until several encounters later...

Thanks for a good laugh. Sorry I couldn't think of something more clever for a reply.

Just stick them in a closet with William for an hour and they'll be begging to be sent home.

I can't believe that actually happened.
