TOPIC: Ryan Adams to play the Ryman

As I was flipping thru the Weekend section of the Tennessean today, I noticed that Ryan Adams is playing the Ryman on Oct. 14. Tickets go on sale on September 4. I'm pretty excited about the opportunity to see Ryan live. I'm pretty familiar with his Whiskeytown material and I LOVE Heartbreaker and Gold is pretty good but I've always heard that he's really good live and I'm sure that he wont disappoint. Is anyone else excited about the show?

We'll miss you Mr. Hooper.

Can't blame that on Adams. Some songs just can't be made good.

All kidding aside, a cover that floored me was Travis' Baby One More Time cover. Proof, I suppose, that any song can be made good.

I don't really think his version of the song is awesome, but the 5 minute rant he goes on afterwards is classic where he thinks that Liam thinks he's Beck etc etc. Hilarious.

And Travis' covers are always good. I really enjoy "Killer Queen" and their "Baby One More Time" makes the song itself actually sound like a good song.

Have you guys ever heard Travis' cover of "River" by Joni Mitchell? It's really great.

Ryan Adams? Nah, I think I'll pass. I know it's really uncool (especially in Nashville) not to worship him, but I find his music (post-Whiskytown) pretty mediocre.
Relevant: Prince, PT Anderson, Punk, Post-Punk, Purple, Party of Five, Peter Swanson, Peter Gabriel-led Genesis, "Peter Panic", Paul's Boutique, Potential Energy, Every Features MB member but me.

Anyone heard Travis' cover of "Here comes the Sun"? It's also pretty good. Travis always picks out very good songs to cover. They even did "Gimme Some Truth" by John Lennon on one of their early singles. Plus, i've heard that they do "Back in Black" occassionally as an encore.

Well I guess I will be going to this show.... I saw him last year around this time and it was okay. He is a first class jerk but I can't help but enjoy him. The recent Gap ad is really lame, but what do you expect from Elton John's boy toy?? I can only hope he will do "Wonderwall".... fuck modest mouse!!!

During the rant that Ryan Adams does after playing Wonderwall, he says that his girlfriend left him for some guy in modest mouse and this guy in the audience screams "Fuck Modest Mouse!" as if it is the one statement that he is sure is right. It's quite funny.

travis' version of the ronettes "be my baby" is amazing.
You know you have problems, with both money and alcohol, when you find yourself shoving beers down your pants outside a Features show.

it's true, travis can make anything sound great, but what's with this bullshit about "baby one more time" NOT being a good song? have you actually listened to it? cheap shots at britney spears aside, it's a fucking awesome song. jesus christ. i'm sorry.

Anyone know where I can get these Travis cover songs?

I have nothing to add to the original topic. Ryan Adams is pretty cool I guess.

well, they're mainly on assorted cd singles. you could go to travisonline.com and look at the discography. it should be able to give you more information than i can. or you could just download them from your favorite file sharing system. it's up to you.
