TOPIC: Schizophrenia on this board

I have one question for a couple of you...

How do you determine which name you will use when you log in? Is it sheer boredom or do you need friends that bad?

You know who you are.

I actually go by BigDawg sometimes. OK, OK. Not really. But, I have noticed a few schizo's on here. I could get all FBI on your asses, but I choose not too. Watch your backs, punks.

Haha. I'm just kidding. I do know of some multiple personalities, though. This topic calls for a ninja face. ph34r.gif

in all seriousness, having multiple screennames on a message board this small is insanely unnecessary.

Schizophrenia does NOT equal multiple personality disorder (aka dissociative identity disorder). While the prefix Schizo does roughly translate into "split" it does not mean split personality, it means a "split" with reality. The term schizoprenia refers to one who has disordered thoughts, most commonly delusions of granduer or persecution as well as general paranoia. I'm not trying to show off or attack anyone, but I think everyone should be aware of how bastardized this word has become. Just because someone has messed up thoughts, doesn't always mean that they think they are more than one person.

This multiple personality thing does intrigue me more. Do we have proof of this?

Reason #8,347 that carligula kicks ass- he took the words right out of my mouth re: schizophrenia. Not to say that some on this board don't have delusions of grandeur... But the original point is interesting- I had been wondering myself whether HeyLuLu and/or JustAnotherDrive were incarnations of "Elliott" because of their persistent misspellings, frequent posting, and somewhat inane questions. If not, I apologize for being quick to judge & I assume that those mentioned won't take offense as this is just a silly message board. I don't have any other suspicions, though.

They had to erase the term "paranoid schizophrenic" from Zartan's profile on the GIJoe trading cards because it was inaccurate and offensive. Just shows that people have been getting it wrong since 1984.

Well, I realized the word wasn't being used correctly, however I didn't care enough to comment on it.

On a complete side note, I got to thinking about this. We all know psychological labels come and go, appear magically, and disappear just as easily. I'm not sure how much I believe in beginning treatment on a patient by throwing a label on them. You stick a name on their disease and you follow a flow chart on how to treat instead of focusing on the individual. Mental health care is improving but to me this particular thing is still an issue. I guess to some extent its necessary, but it homogenizes groups of the mentally ill when they can be as different as night and day. For example, 2 signs of major depressive disorder: "sleeplessness/less sleep than normal" and "excessive sleep/more sleep than normal." Another example: take "Patient A" who thinks he is an angel sent from God to save the planet and his mailman is an enemy spy out to foil his efforts. "Patient B" has not moved without assistance for 2 years, and shows no sign of any attempt to communicate and seems completely unaware of his surroundings. Besides having a break from reality, what does "Patient A" and "Patient B" have in common? A label.

Sorry I ranted. I still have no idea why I'm a psychology major.

Well it sounds like you know what you're talking about and have some level of passion for it. I say stay with psychology and change things to how they should be, fight the system, whatnot.

Of course I'm just a mass comm major. Thinking seems to be an option...

Wow! And so the discussion on the Features MB moves to psych treatment theory! I like it! You guys are so smart. I took PSY 100 as a sophomore, and I don't remember a damn thing, other than Pavlov's dog experiments and basic Freud.

By the way, Lauren, your suspicions are wholly incorrect. Elliot did resurface, but not as either of those two.

Jamie, do you mean someone other than the persona that pre-existed and outlasted "Elliott" ? We should take a poll on how many of us are psych majors. Ceeze, I share your angst about mental health care & I really think it's because (1) Insurance companies demand a quantifiable diagnosis to determine reimbursement and (2) Psychology feels like it has to create concrete & uniform explanations for behavior in order to be seen as legitimate. I think if anyone went through the Psych diagnosis book, they would find at least 2 or 3 mental illnesses to diagnose themselves with & maybe a personality disorder or 2 as well. Or maybe that's just me...

Sorry so cryptic- I was trying to figure out if there were more than 2 screen names for the Elliott person. I'm aware of Elliott & one other, but I was wondering if you meant that there was a third.

If Damon=heylulu, it would be very funny- a very convenient way to vent irrelevant thoughts/questions without bearing the wrath ; )

Okay so the web of lies and deceit has finally ended. Truth be told, I did create HeyLuLu as an outlet for the questions that I always wanted to ask but was afraid that if I asked they would be deemed "irrelevent" (favorite articles of clothing). I really always wanted to know who everyone's celebrity crushes were and what TV Shows they liked. Of course, both of these topics on top of the "features handclap" were deemed relevent and were insanely popular. This totally contradicted what HeyLuLu was supposed to be so I created the "Fave colors" thing.

And to think...all of this could have been avoided if I had had less time on my hands...but I am glad to know that so many people find Tina Fey attractive.

I don't know why the quote didn't work this time

That cracks me up, especially Heylulu's bad spelling. Thank god there's not really someone that irrelevant out there. I just watched "Primal Fear" and this is just like Eddie Norton's character- abused to the point of fragmenting into 2 people. Now the question is: which identity is the REAL one? Maybe HeyLuLu is your real personality & Digsy has been a front all along.

wow, you don't read board for a day and all these secret identities are unmasked....well, most of them anyways. some mysteries just aren't made for solvin' i guess...well, at least not without the help of an extremely clever group of young kids and their invisible friend. and i thought lulu was just a regular canine...huh, how 'bout that?
i suppose i should go ahead an unveil my true identity of 2Pac shakur. that's right, i ain't dead. i've been living it up in the boro, waiting for the features to take a turn towards hip-hop so that i might make my triumphant return.

Bah! Darn you Lauren, you have found me out! I am not the glasses wearing, sideburns sporting, under 5'6" Match Game-idolizing anglophile that everyone knows and erm...likes sorta. I am in truth HeyLuLu. thisis how i realy type icant belive that ive been found out

Um those were jokes. HeyLuLu is actually named after a friend's friend's extremely cute terrier-dog (Lu Lu).

That's okay, I've known you were Stripper Vicar for about two weeks now. I just "played along" I guess. So how did you figure out HeyLuLu was me, oh sherlock?

And about the Putt Putt, Damon, you realize that during this game you will also have about five other people with you. If it happens...

I throw out a comment or two--then I leave it to see what happens....

WHOOSH!!! It balloons into all this. Wonderful. It is pointless to create an identity on this board.

The elliott episode proves that when anyone creates a persona unlike himself or herself on the board, it is just annoying. Obviously, someone, be it the management of the Features, the mysterious "you", or Michael E, the nice guy who donates his time to the Features and administrates this board and upgrades its software, finds that doing such things is detrimental to an online community in some way. Otherwise, they wouldn't have banned elliott.

For all of you recently unmasked (and I knew all of those and just wanted to see what would happen), just "keep it real" on the board.

Please note--this is the first time I have ever used "keep it real" in print or speech.

Thanks.

Oh I'm always keeping it real. And let it be known that I signed 90% of my yearbooks throughout high school with "Keep it real"...or Oasis song titles...but anyway, HeyLuLu was entertaining and I by no means ever planned on taking it to Elliot-height. It was all in good fun and come on, I know you all got a smile out of seeing Waldo Faldo in a post. I know I sure did biggrin.gif

Dang. I haven't had the internet recently, and I think that it quite obvious...I hate not being able to post on the board everyday.
Nevertheless, I found this topic to be quite interesting. To address something mentioned on page 2 I believe..I, too, am a Psychology major. And, the fact that people have actually created different personalities on the board is interesting to me. I knew of damon and suspected that HeyLuLu was another member of the board. I also figured that ray davies had a different personality as well; I just didn't know which one.
I have GOT to get the internet at my new apartment. That way I can keep up with all of this stuff.

Indeed, it seems that all of Elliott's posts have been removed. There is still record of his existence, but in the relevant threads, all of his posts have been removed. And if you try to look at his personal page, you get an error message. Hmmmm....

Carl, to answer your question, Elliott was banned because he posted about 150 times in two or three days (he was the reason that 'flood control' started). Also, he was kind of an instigator, making fun of MB members and starting fights and whatnot. He was a big Features fan, though.
Relevant: Prince, PT Anderson, Punk, Post-Punk, Purple, Party of Five, Peter Swanson, Peter Gabriel-led Genesis, "Peter Panic", Paul's Boutique, Potential Energy, Every Features MB member but me.

I'm honestly not all thatworried about it. Each name has its own significance for exisitance. But you can choose one if you want? Not sure why it would really matter to you though. Unless you are stalking me? It's been awhile since I had a stalker.

RD only swings the way of the nearest attractive lady.  No guys, thanks.  It would appear that Mr. September's real secret is out.

I'm still confused about all the talk about the clitoris.
Choose life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fucking big television. Choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players and electrical tin openers... choose DIY and wondering who the fuck you are on a Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mindnumbing, spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pishing your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fucked-up brats you spawned to replace yourself. Choose your future. Choose Life ...

Enough said. It's ok, you still have friends here if you need to talk about it.
