12x35=420. I've always heard that that's where '420' as a pot reference comes from, since the song's about getting stoned.

I thought it was because the cops lil code for pot smoking was 420. like, 'we've got a 420 over here at thewaffle house on main' I've also heard that everyone's favortie band 311 was named after the police code for public nudity.

'420' is not the police code for smoking marijuana.  I'm not sure if there is a police code for marijuana use, but I am certain that there is no police code called '420'.

As for the meaning behind '311', I don't know.

There was a rumor that 311 was code for KKK. K=the eleventh letter of the alphabet. 3xK=KKK. Of course, it is all bullshit, I'm sure.

nick hexum is possibly the worst lyricist ever. his only rival being anthony kiedis(who actually improved on the newest record). 'cos i'm nick hexum, the one who knows about things' i liked 311 when i was 14.

i thought the whole 4:20 thing was because cops change shifts at 4:20, so no one is on duty to bust you and that is why everyone smokes pot then...just what i heard in high school.

A few years ago I got 'Most Likely to Kill Matt Pelham's House Pets', and so I already got the restraining order one. That's why I always stand at the very back of any given venue.



I'd always heard 420 was just a time when a large group of high school kids would go straight from school to some place where they could get away with smoking.  By the time they got there, the time would be 4:20.  Then after they graduated, they kept the time and it became popular and spread.  I don't know.
