Not nearly as much as the Pittsburg Petticoats or the Kansas City Kerchiefs. Talk about intimidation.

The Red Sox barely beat out "Baseball Sux." The White Sox are ghetto and Cincy's baseball team hasn't been called the Red Stockings since before Johnny Bench's grandfather was born. I'm not really a fan of the Red Sox, but I HATE the Yankees, so by default I root for their biggest rivals.

This year's World Series is so uninteresting that I don't think I'll watch a single game. And I think most of America will agree with me and this will be the lowest-rated WS in years.

I'm not sure I totally agree. I bet the Houston fans are extremely excited. I just love it when teams that have never been, or haven't been in a long time, get to go. Although I suppose the Brown Stockings'...er Cardinals' fans are disappointed.

I also hate the Yankees. But I despise Atlanta (who haven't been called the Red Stockings for a long time either).

I loathe the Braves. I grew up a Cards fan and remember those "The Atlanta Braves, America's team" commercials that TBS would show. I don't like Texas in general and seeing as how Chicago is one of the coolest cities in the world, I'll have to pull for the Sox.....not that I really care. Baseball hasn't been worth a damn since Dizzy Dean retired.

I agree.

I'm slowly making the transition into a Predators fan.

Slowly??!?!?! What's not to love? When I moved here I decided I was going to make them my team (previously a Rangers fan) We went to the game last Saturday with some friends from out of town (Red Wing fans from Detroit) they commented on how much mor entertaining the Preds game was than a Red Wings'. They thought Nashville was doing everything right and putting out a quality product.

I debated this year about buying season tix, but with the baby and increasingly crazy work schedule, I passed. I'll still probably go to about 15 games this season.

Jump on the bandwagon... there's plenty of room.

I bought a half-season plan this year so I'll be going to 21 games. They're really a lot of fun. This team is wonderful to watch with the new NHL rules. Even if you're not a hockey fan, you can still have a great time just enjoying all of the entertainment provided for the audience. Also, there are usually lots of hot girls to be found there.

okay, okay, maybe not so slowly. I just didn't want to make it look like I was bandwagoner now that they were doing good wink.gif I've been a casual fan since they got here. The atmosphere has always been good despite the actual game , and it seems as if the organization really appreciates the fans and wants them to have a good time.

I was able to make the playoff games last year and they were just as exciting, if not more, than any Titans game I've ever been to (with the exception of the Music City Miracle). I've been to two games this year and LOVE the new rules. I really wish the city of Nashville would embrace them a little more, Sat. should have been a sellout! Me and some friends are going Tues night and have seats in 303- I'm super excited!

Perhaps I should have said I'm slowly transitioning from liking the Titans more to liking the Predators more. biggrin.gif

I've only been to one Predators game. I got soused on free drinks and made "Fang Fingers". I wish I liked pro football. I'd like college football if I had a team other than UT to go for. Vandy's too preppy. It's the Purdue of Tennessee.

I agree it will be the lowest rated WS in years, but that's only because most americans won't watch a baseball game that the Yankee's or the Red Sox aren't in. Me, I don't personally like baseball except for the playoffs, and this to me is the most interesting WS in a long time. The game last night proved that.

If you're looking for a college team you can casually follow, MTSU is your team. They lose at home and beat Vandy on the road: you won't even have to watch the games.

Hockey is irrelevant. And even if the Predators won ten Stanley Cups in a row, I would still feel that way. Sure it's fun to see live, but so is a tractor pull. And by the way, you won't have to worry about the Preds winning ten Stanley Cups in a row, at least in this city, because we'll lose that team to another city within the next ten years. Book it.

As time goes by, I find myself losing interest in professional sports in general. While there is certainly more talent than in college athletics, I find that pro athletes are playing with less and less fire and emotion, and seem to care less and less about actually trying to win. In their comments, I sense an attitude that it doesn't really matter what happens on the field, so long as their current contract is bigger than the one before. And of course any sort of team loyalty went out the window years ago. As Jerry Seinfeld said, we're really just rooting for laundry, aren't we?

In my eyes, college basketball is and will always be the greatest sport around.

Couldn't agree more. I just hope the Hoosiers play as a team this season. I love going to games and used to love playing it(anyone up for organizing a game?), but nine man stand around is kind of boring to watch on TV. Fox's coverage sucks too. They eat up any possible tension with constant instant replays, dugout overheads, and interviews. I know it's un-(North)American and all, but soccer's recently caught my interest.

I'm learning about soccer.

Of the big three American sports (baseball, basketball, and football) I'd have to say baseball is the least interesting.
That's so NA.

As an Iowa fan, Steve Alford's writing is on the wall, too... I smell Mr. Indiana getting fired/resigning from Iowa and take the helm of the Hoosiers.

There was this weird song about the Hoosiers when I was kid that I vaguely remember. I'm sure it was only a hit in Indiana. The only line I can recall went something like, "C'mon Bobby Knight, throw a chair tonight. Stevie........shoot a 3-pointer". Good old midwest. Roadie's not around here much anymore, but that dude is a rabid John Cougar fan. He's always going on about how the Coug is the spokesman for middle America and I've seen him get teary eyed at the "Authority Song".

I think the exact words were, "Say what you will about John Mellencamp, but that guy is America, man." Or something like that. Classic.
