Nominations were just announced and WHERE THE FUCK IS THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS? Gene Hackman wins a golden globe and doesn't even get nominated? (i know, i know, he was in a comedy category). Jesus, this means i'm pulling for Altman now, since the Coen Bros. 'The Man Who Wasn't There' got snubbed too, except for cinematography, which is some of the best i've ever seen. (Scene in the jail with the light going through the bars casting bar shadows on the characters faces).

I've heard nothing but good things about 'In the Bedroom', and 'Monsters Ball'. How about Halle Berry?
'Beautiful Mind' is ok but i don't think best picture material. 'Blackhawk Down' is a well shot film with a good idea and some great scenes but short on character development and a little too Shoot 'Em Up.

Ghost World was great too, but not as fantastic as all the indie kids would like to beleive. It is poorly paced, a bit mis timed/edited, and i think the actors might be over-directed. But still good, though.

In the meantime, Wes Anderson is GOD.

i didn't see any of those other flicks, but i agree with you, mr. ebert, about the royal tennenbaums. my goal in life is to have a bit part in a wes anderson film.

if anyone gets digital cable, look out for a 30-minute wes anderson documentary on independent film channel.  it's very entertaining, considering nothing else really comes on the 200 other channels that comcast digital cable brings to the world.

I also like John Cusack, but I thought that Serendipity was rather weak.  I suppose it was a good 'date movie', if you're into stereotypical romantic comedies.  Not Oscar material, in my opinion.

Do you ever notice how Joan tends to show up in lots of John's movies?

oh yeah, i don't think serendipity was oscar material... i liked high fedelity or grosse pointe blank better. he's just great. the only reason i would like serendipity is cause of him though.

Let's not forget Cusack's enthralling performance in the worst bag-of-dogshit/waste-of-talent & time movie ever 'Pushing Tin.' What a cast. What a bad fucking movie.

I thought that Pushing Tin had alot of potential. And I don't just mean the cast, which was obviously stellar. The whole concept of Air Traffic Control meets Melrose Place could have been incredible. It just...wasn't.

I agree- I think the best scene was when he was walking down the street post-suicide & all the people were streaming past him & his walking rhythm was totally different from theirs- amazing.

And Wes is god. Give me Bottle Rocket over Serendipity (worst movie I saw last year) any day

people who use a bottle rocket refrence as a screen name are very relevant.

I know I'm going to offend the 'it's better the second time/I thought the same thing the first time I saw it' crowd, but in my opinion Bottle Rocket was sub-par. I am a big Wes Anderson fan so don't crucify me, but I didn't think it was all that.
