Wes Anderson has completed writing his newest script without the help of Owen Wilson who was too busy making crappy movies. They will start filming the new movie in september. It is to take place on a boat starring Bill Murray as an oceanographer along with Owen Wilson, Jason Schwartzman, Nicole Kidman, Gweneth Paltrow, and some other people I can't think of...

I wait for this film's arrival like something waits for something and sounds poetic and such.

Both good and bad news. Good news we'll get another Anderson film. Bad news that Wilson isn't co-writing. But, again, at least we get another Anderson film. So that's good enough.

Yeah I thought so too when I first heard. But now I think it will be interesting to see what Wes's stuff is like without Owen's input. I've always assumed that their projects are really mainly Wes's in terms of overall vision & seeing that they're executed properly, and that Owen is more of a contributor. But maybe that's completely wrong?

Does your winky face mean this statement is a joke?

I recently read this book to my reading class and I think they hated it. I didn't exactly love it. The movie looks silly and has gotten poor reviews.

My winky face meant I was a little ashamed to be admitting I wanted to see it. I really liked the book when I read it a few years ago. I don't know though, I'm pretty easy to please when it comes to movies. Actually, I'm pretty easy to please with anything.. I'm not very critical.

Not a bad thing. I liked it okay the first time I read it but am now sick of it. And, even though the movie looks silly and has gotten poor reviews, I will probably end up watching it since I have read it. I just have to watch all of these book-movies even if I hate them (like the latest Count of Monte Cristo movie...ugh).

Yeah, I've always looked at it that way too. Owen co-writing or not, I'm sure it will be great, and I can't wait to see it.

Owen Wilson co-wrote the scripts with Wes Anderson. I think it's pretty clear that a lot of the humor of the film comes from Wilson as it's apparent in a lot (not all, but a lot) of the other things Owen ventures into that he's a pretty funny guy. Certainly Anderson is the director, so the vision, if you will, and the camera angles and all that are certainly a creation of his (and the dozens of individuals actually running the equipment needed to produce those images), but Wilson deserves a lot of credit for what makes their films to date pretty special. But yeah, it'll be interesting to see what a Wilson-less film is like. Wes Anderson is certainly one of our best directors working in America today and it's always good to get another film from him.

Wow, the things a shitload of money and access to Cinecitta can get you...

I've been concerned about him shooting this one in a studio space, given that in his previous films, particularly Tenenbaums, he's seemed to draw inspiration from the practical locations just as much as he's created a unique world. But he seems to have the excellent production design here as well. Hopefully just as quirky, too.
