all you have to do is stand outside the fence. there's usually a grassy knoll behind the fence that is nicer to sit on than standing with all the drunken people near the budweiser fence. biggrin.gif
maybe i could sing along
to your neverending songs,
i'm just looking for some fun

I will also be there standing outside wishing to be closer to them. I am going to see them the night before at the Variety Playhouse in Atlanta just in case something happens. I've only seen them once and I feel that it is a crime.

well, my parents are going no matter what so if i cant get in i will join you on the grassy knoll. it would be 100 times better then having to hang out by myself at south street with all the bikers.

Are you kidding!?! Matthew Sweet sings, right? Does this have something to do with that Austin Powers band? I might need to check this out...

Shawn Mullins makes me gag, so I'm not too excited about the opening act. I've read their album reviews and they don't seem to impressive. But you never know, right?

Anything that Matthew Sweet is involved in, I want to see. But get this: De Novo Dahl and the Hot Pipes are playing at the Slow Bar on 7/3 also, and I am NOT missing that. So if Uptown Mix runs too late, I might just see the Thorns, and skip the Jayhawks.

Yes. They have gotten awesome. If you haven't seen them since their first show or two, give them another chance.
I TOTALLY AGREE!

Me too. So does David Mead & he has a song that sounds just like "Lullaby" so when I heard it at a show of his (opening for a band I do like), I yelled "ROCKABYE". He looked really pissed, as did his scary squeaky fans. Anyway, my husband has that Thorns record & it's ok. A couple of songs are great, a lot are mediocre.

Just to let Mr. JamieCarroll and anyone else know who is trying to decide between the two, The Hot Pipes\DND show will be Featuring a "bring your Uptown Mix wrist band and get $2 off" deal. So, you may be able to do both. I don't really like the Thorns' single and they were horrible on Letterman.

I believe it has to cut out early because it's outside in the middle of town. I think I have usually gotten out by 11:00 every time. It starts around 7 or so.

Matthew Sweet's "Girlfriend" and "Altered Beast" are guilty pleasures of mine. The rest sucks.

Shawn Mullins is an asshole. I heard that when he lived in Nashville and had a band that he couldn't hack it. People laughed while he played. Then he goes and makes some comment about L.A. being Nashville with a tan. It really pisses me off that he relegates Nashville to the same status as the horrid dystopia that is L.A. And I definitely think that is what he meant.

I plan on heckling him about it. Seriously.

Blasphemy, roadie! Some of his best songs have come after Altered Beast. And how can you call those two albums guilty pleasures?!

I agree with you about Shawn Mullins, though.

"Girlfriend" has been one of my favorite albums since, damn, like 11th grade I guess!

I am ashamed (but sort of not) to say that I got him to sign my copy when I saw him at 328 Performance Hall a million years ago. That's the only autograph I have ever tried for...

He's an idiot. Nashvillians have much darker tans.

$2 Pabst Tallboys at Slow Bar tonight. No better to celebrate the good ole red, white and blue than with a tall, refreshing can of red, white and blue. Well, maybe with a cake with red, white and blue icing because beer is gross.

Just for the record, last night's show at the Slow Bar was fantastic. I'll admit that, up until this point, I haven't been too impressed with the Hot Pipes, but last night thay officially won me over. I can't remember the name of the song, but the cover they did with Jesperanza and Vovo was a nice treat. I overheard one of the guys saying that they were working on their transitions and between-song-banter, which I think can only help this band even more.

What can I say about De Novo Dahl that I haven't already said before? Thumbs up all around. Once again, every one of these guys (and gal) went out of their way to talk to everyone and hang out after the show-- which goes a long way in my book. Speaking of which-- props to Mike_D for a rockin' afterparty. He send his love to the messageboard.

"Holiday Road" by Lindsey Buckingham. What a great cover.

As in, the closing credits track of National Lampoon's Vacation? I never knew that was Lindsey Buckingham, but I L-O-V-E that song.

Sorry to change the subject, but did anyone go to The Jayhawks? I missed it b/c I was too late getting back from my Atlanta/Chattanooga trip. They were awesome in Atl and was just wondering how the Nashville show went...

pete droge smells terrible, i stood 2 feet from him at work the other day and handed him a box. He smelled like he'd been in a 5x5 room chain smoking for about four days!
