TOPIC: the kings of leon

it isn't on the band's site, but the rage has the kings of leon playing 12th and porter on saturday, july 26th...

i haven't heard much of their music, but they're pretty big in england, and i know that there are a lot of famous rockers plugging them. just thought i'd mention it. unsure.gif you can assess them here. i recommend "watch red morning light".

*i must admit that noel gallagher is one of the 'rockers' to whom i was referring. there are others, though, i assure you.

1) I think the Rage said it was a last minute show. Many bands don't have awesome webmasters like Brian and Michael to give frequent updates. it's a shame.

2) I saw them on Jimmy Kimmel or something and thought they sounded alright-- but they were kind of gimmicky. Also, they claim to be from Nashville, but have played very few shows here and have talked shit about how hard it is to be a non-country band in Nashville.

3) Just because Oasis friggin' rules doesn't necessarily mean they listen to good music

4) You would be making a grave mistake seeing this show when you can see "real" nashville bands...like... I don't know... Slack, Glossary, and Michael Acree at Exit/In

hahaha...

1) well, i never said that oasis listen to good music, but i'm surprised to hear anybody but digsy say that they rule.

2) i'd never heard of them playing around nashville, but i'm not really from here. i agree about the 'real' nashville bands being more worthy of our support.

3) i'm not 21, anyways, so i couldn't go see them if i wanted to.

1) Okay, I'm not that big of a fan, but I have their live 2CD set and enjoy it quite a bit. Beyond the attitude, they are extremely good songwriters and performers.

2) Glad you see it my way.

3) The Slack show is 18+.

Carl hit it right on. Who gives a shit about the Kings of Leon (who didn't even have a record release show in their so-called hometown) when you can go see three bands at the exit/in that would blow the Kings off the stage. That's where I'll be.

Hard for non-country bands in Nashville? If they really are saying this crap to the national media that could be really, really bad for us...

it's true what you say. they shouldn't be talking anti-nashville jive like that.

The deal is...some guy from Kings of Leon is Josh Rouse's brother. They are "from" Nashville in the same way that he is - by way of Nebraska. They lived here for a spell (or still live here), but never did enough to be "from" Nashville. They opened for Rouse in December at 12th and Porter and played the Slow Bar a few months ago. My friend bought their EP debut on RCA when it came out, because of the same British hype that Damon mentioned. I don't really like it that much. It's almost like some updated Southern rock. Honestly, I haven't listened to it in quite a while so I may be forgeting some of it that I liked, but I just don't remember having any desire to listen to it again.

On the contrary, I think a lot of people will find this valuable information. I'm sure everyone was wondering my opinion on Oasis.

I know I was. It's always a topic I'm interested in.

Kings of Leon are absolutely dreadful. Too much hype, not enough substance and, to put it nicely, quite boring and uneventful......

i saw them on jimmy kimmel and they sucked. it sounded like and looked like they had just learned their song an hour before. i am glad i saw slack. they rocked it as usual. but man, the soundman at exit/in has got problems. his ears must be shot. he seems like a swell guy, and all the bands were giving him props, but it wasn't sounding too swift out on the floor. but great bands give good shows no matter what the sound.

Kings of Leon are actually from Memphis. They were originally a country act of sorts that sucked. Now they are an overhyped whatever act that still suck....right along the side of Oasis. Suckola cola.

Kings of Leon are coming back and playing Exit/In sometime in the next couple months in case anyone is interested. I heard their album at work and am not really impressed.
I TOTALLY AGREE!

Keith, you are destined to rock. Never forget this.
