i don't know if anyone else is watching the all-star game tonight, but the emetic pre-game festivities have me near stabbing myself.

first, fantasia (who the hell is this person?) sang the national anthem. ok, sang is a bit charitable. she yelped, screeched, and gasped through the thing, much like someone who has no business being a professional singer would. oh, what do you know? american idolatry is the culprit here...imagine that! so somewhere there's a real singer who is out of work, and elsewhere an office staff is wondering what happened to the really annoying temp. it makes me want to vomit...and i had las palmas for dinner...

after that display of, er...amateurism, then they had muhammad ali out on the field, shaking uncontrollably because of his condition and miming punching derek jeter or a-rod or whoever that was, putting bunny ears behind the head of one of the players during a photo-op...it's just pretty disconcerting, all of it. atleast aerosmith aren't playing a medley of their hits or--maybe they already did that and i just missed it? i wouldn't doubt it. ENOUGH! just start the frigging game already!

I watched a little of the 6th inning tonight, and some of the Home Run Derby last night. That's all I have to contribute.
That's so NA.

well, the american league won again...bugger! i've always been an national league guy--because the cubs are in the NL and also i hate the idiotic designated hitter rule. i think the home run derby was miles better than the game itself, which is kind of sad.

i don't suppose anyone else bothered to watch it, but that's alright...the important thing is that i got in a good rant. sometimes this board is good for that, if nothing else.

No, I didn't watch it. All-star games and pro bowls are irrelevant.

EDIT: I was going to make a really tasteless joke about Ali shaking off all of the catcher's signs, but I thought better of it. God bless that man.

yeah, pretty much. the MLB all-star game is usually a step above the mockery of football that is the pro-bowl, the complete joke that is the NBA all-star game, and whatever it is they do for hockey (the skills competition?), but it's still not very watchable. they've also decided to try to make a game that is an exhibition by nature count for something, which is as stupid as it sounds. it was still baseball, to a certain extent, and i'd nothing else to do with myself but to sit around and watch it.

It's really pathetic. Let's select a team of 50 or so players and try to get them all into a 9 inning baseball game. It's still miles ahead of the Pro Bowl.
We'll miss you Mr. Hooper.
