TOPIC: The Strokes

Yeah, so I'm sure nobody really cares about this, but I'm so excited I had to post about it. I saw The Strokes last night at The Tabernacle in Atlanta. It was my third Strokes experience, and I think it was the best. If my memory is correct, they played every song off the album except for "When It Started", plus the five new songs. It was simply amazing. I skipped classes today so that I could go to the show, and I'm so glad I did even though I'll be taking some zeros on quizes. It was well worth the sacrifice.

I got there at about 5:00, doors opened at 7:00, and my sister and I were in the second row dead-center on the floor, about 6 feet away from the stage. Of course, during "Take it or Leave it", Julian placed himself ontop of the crowd. At this point, everybody from all sides lunged towards him and we all fell to the floor. My little fragile self was stuck underneath who knows how many people. I was literally struggling to breath and prayed for my life. At one point, I accidentally coughed into Julian's face and felt really bad about it, but oh well. Once I finally got up, I had to get a security guard to lift me over the railing in front of the stage because I was about to pass out from lack of air.

So, I think I almost died and one of my converses fell off, but somebody handed it over the gate to me. Overall though, I did get to see quite possibly the best show I've ever seen in my life. I was just so happy during the entire thing, and I believe I was more enthusiastic than anybody else around me, so I may have annoyed some people. But, oh well. I haven't enjoyed myself that much in a long time.

So, I was just wondering if anybody else has seen them. And if so, how'd you like it?

The closest I came to seeing them was when they cancelled their opening slot on the weezer tour. I'm not so much into them, but I'm glad to hear you had a good time and didn't die in the process. Rock'n'Roll!

I'm seeing Coldplay in Birmingham in January. Hells yes!

Yeah, I was able to ignore the rowdy people while they were just pushing me and stuff, but once I was on the floor, I was not too happy. But, the music was well worth it.

I'm happy for you getting to see Coldplay. That should be a really good show.

I really wish that I had went to that show. I saw the Strokes last November at 328 and it was a pretty cool show. Glad to hear you had a good time!

I've seen them twice: at 328 last year, and in jackson, ms last febuary. i would have seen them a third time if they had not canceled the weezer date.

I am really jealous of sexy sadie. she called me during the concert. i got to hear six songs: is this it, hard to explain, ze newie, last nite, soma, i cant win. then as soon as the concert was over, she called me and raved about how good it was. i'm very jealous, but extremely happy for her. she had been looking forward to it ever since she heard about it.

Yippy.... I am glad that you had a great time apart from the almost dying bit. Return to the 'boro safely and tell us all the details.

I like the Strokes, but I was very disappointed with the set length of the 328 show, which was the only time I saw them. It turned me off for quite some time. I did throw it in the cd player at work the other day and remembered how much I liked it.

I was too excited to actually time out the show, but I would guess that it was probably around an hour or so. I never expect their shows to last over an hour since their catalog isn't as big as some bands'. But that's because they haven't been around for an extremely long time yet. I take what I can get, and what I got was quite amazing in my opinion.

Thanks for all the congrats everybody. I'm sorry that those of you who are fans didn't get to go. I'm hoping that they'll be able to find some place in Nashville to play next year and finally come back here so that I won't have to go to different states to see them for a change.

Im glad you had a good time at the show! I've never seen them, but I (much like others) came close at the weezer show. Its weird how the strokes' lyrics are so much like a recent scenario in my life.

my friend pete said he hung out with julian at the new orleans show, but i've heard he's a compulsive liar . . .
thank you for being a friend.

i was pretty close with this guy who was a compulsive liar. he wasn't aware that other people were aware of it though. i only called him out when we argued about something. it was actually very sad. he has a new record deal everytime i talk to him(on average about once every 6 months). i once overheard him telling a music store clerk that i won a state snare drum competition(i was never in band nor could i ever win a state snare drum competition). the best thing was hearing him talk to girls.

I had a friend like that growing up, too. I don't thing it was a psychological issue or anything... I think he just needed to feel cool. He would always talk about the cool cars his parents had. (They were in storage in Indiana.) It was actually very funny.

Thats's awesome about you seeing the Strokes, I saw them at 328 adn I meet everyone except for Fabrizio the drummer. It was great, I liked Albert the best he was hilarious. I toole pictures with all of the guys and I also got this special made poster that was printed for the band. This guy just walked up to Nickolai and was like uh we had these printed for you guys and there was like 20 or so of them, and nic asked me to hold them while he took a picture with someone else, so after I took my picture with him i asked for one and got it! Anyway my picture with Julian is so great, he just lays his face all on the side of mine and he looked so cute. but he was so drunk that night, yuo should see what he signature looks like on that poster. laugh.gif a big scribble

yeah, i saw them. disappointed again. would have liked to hear one of those new songs everyone speaks of. let's clear this up- NOT disappointed in the performance, NOT disappointed in the quality of the song played, just ready for something new.

perhaps they still want to promote "is this it"....and besides i seriously doubt that any late night show or record company for that matter would want them to play a new song. they want the new single or at least an album track to be played...and if your waiting for new material, then the new album will supposedly be released in late summer/early fall...then we'll finally get to hear studio versions of the new songs...

I picked it up last nite (ha ha ha) and it is a very nice article with some very, very cool pictures inside. This magazine makes me feel like 2002 did not totally suck, music wise. Now all we need is a Features album to come out and shock the world...

Yeah, I had heard about Fab's hair before I went to the show so I wasn't too shocked. It looks pretty bad to me. I'm against anybody shaving their head like that though, especially when they have cute hair.

Nick wore a vintage Steve Martin shirt to the show. He also wore it to the Letterman show. It was so cute. I want it. Oh, and Julian was wearing a vintage Michael Jackson Thriller shirt that had the cover of the album on it. It was also very cute.

I thought the Letterman performance was great. So much better than the MadTV performances. New songs on TV performances would be great, but not many people are going to want to see songs that they're not familiar with.

Yes, Jimmy Fallon did open for them. He was excellent until he started doing his stupid songs from his album with his little band. Before he did that stuipd stuff, he did a little routine where auditions were being held for troll doll jingles. He went through all his various impressions of people doing these auditions such as Robin Williams, Adam Sandler, Alanis Morisette, Jerry Seinfeld, etc... It was quite funny. Then he did a few other routines that I've seen him do a few times before, but they were still hillarious.

The Mooney Suzuki were awesome. I saw them last year at the Red Rose and really liked them, and they were just as good this time. They are just such good performers. They really know how to put on a show. I bought a really cute shirt of their's after the show, but dropped and lost it before I even got a chance to wear it. What a waste of $20.00.

Oh, Jimmy did a Coldplay impression too. He made up a jingle for the troll doll that he had sitting on the stool beside where he was standing and sang, if I remember correctly, "I bought a troll, I bought a troll for you, the one you wanted was blue, but they just had yellow". Something to that extent. And he called for crowd participation too...so that was good.
