I've seen their video for "get Free" about 30 in two days on mtv2, and I must say that I really dont like them. I dont know why. They just seem to rub me the wrong way. It's really a shame.

Unfortunately, this is often true. You can have a group of twenty or so people working hard to create a fun, happy environment conducive to discussing shared interests, but it just takes one misbehaved person to dilute the value of an on-line community. This quirk of human interaction has been the bane of the Internet for twenty years.

As a veteran of many message board warzones (Star Wars, X-Men, a Whose Line board that was convinced that TOny Slattery had talked to them, the OASIS one...) I have to say that this is the calmest. I don't think that the "bane of messageboard existence" is one person, i think it's not knowing when to skip stuff. I wanted to see what they thought of the vines (I think they're okay but I don't agree with NME that they are heads and shoulders above the hives) and when it got personal, I scrolled down. If you don't care, don't read it.

Okay...I'm not going to get involved in this debate. But I would like to make a counterpoint to what you said, Guigsy, just for discussion's sake. The other MBs that you mentioned (Star Wars, X-Men, WLiiA?, Oasis) are for hugely popular, international phenomena with thousands upon thousands of fans. And I have no doubt that the Features will one day be in that category as well. However, right now, we (as Features fans) are a small, relatively tight-knit community. I think what people like TF and YDDD are saying is that they treasure that, and don't want it to be like the Star Wars MB until sheer volume requires that it has to be.

Personally, I couldn't care less who posts what or how often, unless it's pornography or something.

I understand your point, but I have to say that every board i've been too (except the Oasis board...that place was scary) may have started out huge but the regs there were about 20 or so who had grown into a tight-nit unit, like here. I guess the only difference is that every now and then AOL would link the board up to the welcome message (as the Buffy board called it, "The Hellmouth") and people would flood in and post without any rhyme or reason. I'm really used to that type of board and the fact that we're all, for the most part, Rutherford county centric is very new to me. I've probably seen all of you at some point or another.

I hate the Vines. Their album got an unexpectedly high review in the Nashville Rage. Very Strange. Their video is in extremely high rotation. I guess there is some kind of demand for this rubbish. or perhaps they are just bandwagon members of the "garage" revival. they sound like Nirvana ripoffs to me.

I have nothing against the White Stripes. I actually think that they are one of the best groups out there right now. yes, "Fell in Love with a Girl" did get a bit annoying, but It was still better than any of the other shit they play on the radio these days. I actually have all 3 of their albums and I find them quite enjoyable.

While I do not remember that time of the board (because I just resently started posting) I do remember one of the people I met at the oasis concert telling me to download a Strokes song about 6 or so months before Is This It was released in the states. I downloaded The Modern Age (if I recall correctly) and thought that it wasn't all that the band was hyped to be. But then the song got stuck in my head. Then by the time the US release came around I started to like them and I bought the cd and my mind was changed.

Darn them. They grow on you.

I've listened to "Highly Evolved" about three times now and it is merely okay. I don't plan on putting it into heavy rotation or anything. The Conan O'Brien performance I saw was pretty decent though.

And come on, the Hives will rule at the VMAs. The Hives always rule whenever they perform. The antics, the strutting, it's amazing. What other lead singer tells the audience that they love his band. I just hope they use the VMA's live-ness to do something really hilarious...

Judging by 99% of the crap that comes out of the "music industry," it's obvious that good, catchy songs are completely un-American. Therefore, we can only conclude that any band that produces such music, like the Features, are nothing more than subversive, counter-culture zealots determined to undermine our great nation's moral fabric.

So we must ask ourselves, "What can I do to help unravel that fabric?"
