today was a good day. i got out of school right after third period (10:30) because of the snow (which was completley melted an hour later). the (sort of) new baja fresh is fantastic. later tonight i'm going to go watch rushmore. and now i'm going to go take a nap.

Yes, Nashville Public Schools make totally idiotic decisions about snow nearly all the time.

I watched American Wedding today. It was terrible, as I knew it would be. For some reason I just had to rent it.

I am glad that the Features did not sing Laid for that movie.

I still double over in pain laughing as the sight of a snowflake in the sky sends this place into a panic. The snow had to be asshole deep to a tall indian (native american, or even person of indiginous descent, for you really PC peeps) back in Iowa before they would even think about cancelling school.

i'm over the "new" baja fresh. especially that brown salsa stuff.

and not only do school close ridiculously early here because of bullshit weather, but the residence of nashville believe that they can only drive 15 mph on hillsboro rd because of a fucking snowflake.

My office closed today at 3:30pm for snow. Uhhh, it's not snowing anymore! I am still here because I have a meeting later at the office and I'm not going to tell the person we closed for snow when there isn't any.

i didn't go to work today. i called in and then felt slightly guilty because my boss reminded me that today is when the state comes to re-inspect and do our licensing crap. then i remembered how much they pay me. and that i worked about 10 hours for them yesterday. and that i'm teacher of the month. i can do what i want. i'm grown.

so today has been the laziest day i've had in a long time. i'm listening to ray davies' radio show (he's playing "typical girls" by the slits, if i'm not mistaken). i plan on watching "amelie" later. and maybe making pasta.

what's the "(sort of) new baja fresh"?

and it's not snowing at all in rutherford county. it's only cold.

it's kinda like baja burrito, but cleaner with brown "salsa."

speaking of salsa stuff, i've got everyone at work hooked on green salsa. la paz has good green salsa. taco bell has excellent green sauce. green stuff is where it's at.

i'm also a fan of green salsa. also, any salsa with cilantro is almost always tasty. i tried this allrecipes recipe a while back and it was pretty tasty:

8 tomatillos, husked
3 shallots
2 cloves garlic, peeled
1 (4 ounce) can chopped green chile peppers
1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
1 fresh jalapeno pepper, seeded
salt to taste

In a food processor, place tomatillos, shallots, garlic, green chile peppers, cilantro, jalapeno pepper and salt. Using the pulse setting, coarsely chop. Cover and chill in the refrigerator until serving.

I make my own tomatillo sauce as well... looks very similiar to yours except I roast them iin the oven and place the drippings into the processeor as well... adds a more smoky flavor...

the brown salsa was gross. it had a sort of... hickorey? taste that i don't normally assosiate with mexican food. the tacos, however, had the perfect amount of spice and lime.

la paz is a bit too expensive for my budget. have any of you been to el palenque? muy bien.

I only had one class today (8-9:15, the perfect time for one class dry.gif ) so I got to drive around and witness all the mild flurrying. I found the 6th season of Friends at Wal-Mart for $34, so I purchased. And I saw Cold Mountain. That's one positive thing about working for Carmike. I wish it would snow like mad, that would be fun...

As for mexican stuff, I have a hankering for Don Pablo's but my wallet doesn't feel such a hankering.

La Terraza in the Kroger shopping center at OHB and Nolensville is the best mexican hands down in NAshville... The Scene even says so. We go there so often Quickbooks asked if it was a recurring bill and if we wanted to set up a reminder...

I have been there twice, and I didn't enjoy either meal.

The atmosphere is nice, especially when you know the Mariachi band and they come and play by your table for long periods of time.

No, I'm not thinking of Las Palmas. The one I'm thiniking about is in a Kroger center across from Jack in the Box in that area. Next to Wing Basket. I'm fairly sure I'm thinking of La Terraza.

Yes, La Terazza is at the intersection of Old Hickory and Nolensville Rd. Yes, there is a Kroger there, and a Jack in the Box, and a Wing Basket (which kicks ass, by the way, and yes, there is one at Elliston Place, too), and a CiCi's Pizza (sadhbasdfhbsad). Also, Next Generation (R.I.P.) was near this intersection. This is not Nipper's Corner (which is around the intersection of Edmondson Pike and Old Hickory), but it is close. There is a Kroger and a Jack in the Box at Nipper's Corner, but no Wing Basket, no CiCi's (sadhbasdfhbsad), and no NXT Generation. But there is an abandoned movie theater, a Schlotzky's, two liquor stores, and a pretty good Italian restaurant. This is starting to sound like something from the logic games section of the LSAT, so I'll stop now.

MMMMMM....Green salsa is the best, especially Rosepepper's and the kind I've been buying lately at Kroger - too lazy to go look what it's called, but it's overpriced and gringo and really damn delicious

I'm always down for Rosepepper, Sina.

I like La Terraza and have enjoyed every meal I've eaten there. YDDD is just overly picky. The two twin girls in the Mariachi band are my students, and they are completely adorable and talented.

We just ate at Las Palmas, which is definitely sub-par, but still fills the bill. No green salsa, though.

I have no more thoughts on Mexican food tonight.

Rachel's Snow Day: Man, that sounds like a good day. Some of my very favorite memories from high school happened on snow days. Speaking of Baja Fresh in Green Hills, have ya'll eaten at Basante's? It's kind of high, but it's really, really good. The Butternut Squash Ravioli is amazing.

Snow in MidTN: Ah, people from snowy states making fun of Tennesseans' reactions to snow - that never gets old. Seriously, it snows like twice a year here, what do you expect?!!

Baja Fresh: Eh, Baja Burrito is better.

Work: Sucks.

Mase: Yeah, I heard that he left the rap game because it conflicted with his Christianity. I can't say that I miss him. For one thing, it was not cool of him to use a name already taken by one of De La Soul. For another, I think that Puffy signed him specifically because Mase was THE ONLY PERSON IN THE UNIVERSE who rapped more mono-tone than him. I wonder if his sermons are the same way...

Mexican Food: For my money, the best Mexican food in Nashville is at La Hacienda on Nolensville Road. The Rosepepper is a close second. Also good: La Terazza, U.S. Border Cantina in Bellevue, Cancun in Bellevue, La Paz in Green Hills, and El Jalisiense on Charlotte. I also have a soft spot in my heart for El Chico on Murfreesboro Road.

I was working last summer at the Sonic Drive-In in Waverly, TN as a carhop one hot summer night. One of the dudes who worked at the Mexican resturant exposed himself to me, and I ended up having to go to the police station and write out a statement. The cops gave me cookies, and said it was very well-written. I didn't call the cops, someone else did, because apparantly he had done it on several occasions.

He had no reason to advertise.

I've got a slight In-N-Out obsession. You know all of their food is fresh, and never frozen? You ever see how they make French fries? They peel a potato, right in front of your eyes, and put it into this slicer that cuts the whole potato into fries and drops them into the frier.

Indeed...

Their fresh food policy is amazing, but keeps them localized, because they can only pull it off because they've got long-standing relationships with their distributors on the West Coast. If they could find a way to go national, they'd make a killing.

Best national fast food chain? Wendy's clearly. I think that has been covered on here before. Crime of the past few months? The removal of the Double Stack from the 99c menu and increase to like $1.50. Still an amazing value.

2nd favorite fast food burger: The Varsity. I mean, really.
Ohhhhhhhhh, Will. Don't get me started. Varsity onion rings are literally one of the best things about being alive. I am OBSESSED with the Varsity. I love it, I love it, I love it. Give me a pimento cheese burger, some onion rings, and a P.C. (that's chocolate milk on ice for ya'll amateurs).

My mom brought me home some Varsity last week when she went to Atlanta. The next time I will be going will be during the weekend of February 20-22. What'll ya have, what'll ya have? Oh yeah, we get to see Lambchop that weekend too. I can't wait!
I don't get you guys. The only thing I wasn't impressed with was their Cheeseburger, everything else, (the fries, the shake, onion rings), was good. I also believe i remember the portions to be small and the prices kind of high.

ANyone had Fat Moe's. I don't remember where they are, but I think I remember they were good. That and Beefy's had good just about everything.

Well, I posted once, but it obviously didn't make it on here, but what i basically said was, Varsity- overpriced, burgers weren't that good, but the shakes, fries, and onion rings were.

Beefy's and Fat Moe's- good, but It's been awhile since I've eaten at either. Maybe both closed?

Eating at Rotiers was one of the most life-affirming experiences I've ever had. That was largely down to the DROP-DEAD bloody GORGEOUS waitress, but it was sublime, none the less.

I can't even remember what I ate - I was busy staring at the tattoo above her scrumptious ASS rolleyes.gif

Eh, my heart just isn't in it. I've been really busy with the school work (reading a play and novel every week) and working at Carmike Hell. I was looking for a random place to comment on a trip I just got back from.

Has anybody ever been to Vancouver, B.C.? It's such a beautiful city. Despite the rain, I enjoyed walking the streets and breathing the fresh, non-humid Canadian air - which, incidentally, was punctuated by the scent of pot smoke on many a corner. I didn't know that marijuana was all but legal there. A tourist guide I read said that it was a definite haven for weed lovers. Interesting.

I loved eating ultra-fresh salmon (possibly my favorite food anyway) and hearing all the "aboots."

The funniest thing I saw all weekend was a political magazine wish Bush's picture and the title "We Hope You Lose, Eh" on the front page.

God Bless Canada.

No, unfortunately. My folks have been there many a time, though, and raved. This trip was restricted mostly to business, so I only had time to wander during the evenings. But wander I did, as much as I could. Sometimes I wish Nashville had more of a downtown culture.

Any theories as to why it hasn't?

St. Louis (when visiting it over two years ago) struck me as very similar to Nashville in this regard.

You forgot to mention the "Hemp" cafes: a true sign of an enlightened metropolis. I loooooove Vancouver, even though I once saw two different people shooting up in broad daylight there, in the space of an hour. Stanley park, Eastern architecture, anarchists....it's the best. How I miss the days of living 5 hours away.

I've been meaning to try Noshville since I started dating Token. We are procrastinators. We'll say there. Now, who's in?

if you're going to noshville, be prepared to spend $10 for a sandwich. i found the affordable way to go is to get a bowl of matzo ball soup and bagel. that's the half-jew at work in me.

If I wasn't working I'd be in... I know the sheer dissappointment is on my shoulders like Atlas' globe.

I eat Noshville close to 3 times a week. The post-house I'm freelancing at pays for our dinner and there are only like 4 restaurants on the dinner menu. Needless to say Noshville has something for everyone.

I feel like Andy and Barney from the pickle episode of AGS. The first couple of times I was like "Sweet, pickles!" and now just the smell of one gets me feeling sick.
