TOPIC: This Weekend's Concerts

Friday: modlang (CD Release Party) @ The Slow Bar, 9:30, 21+
Friday: Ted Nugent (Yes!) & ZZ Top (Eh...) @ AmSouth, 7:00
Saturday: De Novo Dahl (EP Release Party) w/ Snowglobe & Tyler James @ The Slow Bar, 9:30, 21+, $5
Saturday: Longwave @ 12th & Porter, 10:00, 21+, $8
Monday: White Light Motorcade @ The Slow Bar, 9:30, 21+, $5
Wednesday: Dressy Bessy @ The Slow Bar, 9:30, 21+, $5

Damn the Slow Bar. For those of you old enough to go, the modlang & DND shows should be great. I may still try to see the Nuge, but I doubt that I will be able to persuade any friends into joining me. The only bad thing about DND's show is that Longwave is playing the same night. I saw Longwave when they opened for the Strokes in Jackson, MS a year and a half ago. They were pretty good, but quite a lot of people are jumping on their bandwagon these days. So, they are probably even better now. I would really like to see White Light Motorcade as well, but oh well.

I'll be at the Slow Bar Friday night (to see the Hot Pipes) and Saturday night (to see De Novo Dahl). It's gonna be one hell of a night. I especially can't wait to buy the DND EP.

I'll be at De Novo Dahl Saturday, Dress Bessy Wedndesday, Joe Pisapia (~!) Friday at 12th and Porter (there is also a Character show that night, and I'll try to make both if possible), and Slack on Saturday. Hell of a week. I didn't even know Hotpipes were playing tomorrow. Not a fan of Mod Lang, though.
I TOTALLY AGREE!

I like Curt Perkins. I used to be indifferent to them until I saw Perkins play with Josh Rouse at 12th & Porter in December. After that, I had a new appreciation for him and thus, modlang. They do get sort of redundant after a few songs, but I enjoy the songs up to that point.

at the de novo dahl show there are going to be homemade t-shirts by the band....actually, i'd be better to refer to them as "shirts" instead of adding a T to is.  i have had the honor of already seeing the shirts and i must say that i giggled with delight at how incredible they are....don't neglect them.
I was going to donate to this cause, but they could not find a pink t-shirt for me to use. If an auction were to be held, this shirt would go for no less than $85.

I mean, y'know, there's some concerts that I think people may not be aware of and they need to know about them. But, I just assumed that EVERYONE would be going to see Shaggy at DitD, so I feel like I would be insulting your intelligence if I had listed that show. I actually will be there tonight, but for social purposes only. That and I want to see Arrested Development perform "Tennessee." I also encourage as many of you to see Hurricane Mills Revival at 6, because they suck so hard that it will make you laugh. It's some older guys playing Bon Jovi-esque music in Bon Jovi-esque clothes with lots of hot old ladies cheering for them. Only, they are nowhere near as good as anything Bon Jovi ever released. I am tempted to remain quiet about their suckiness, but they were very cocky and full of themselves when I saw them play, that I will hold no punches in remarking about them. I will be there for the hot old ladies. Just look for the guy in the Gang of Four shirt.

Also, Jet By Day wasn't mentioned- they are also on Kindercore and they play this Sat. the 31st @ Red Rose. I might check that out as well.

Too bad DRay Davies aren't coming here again. I checked their site and obviously they don't like Middle TN anymore. I've seen them quite a few times, smee and I went to see them at the end maybe two years ago (I'm really bad w/ time lines?). We were seriously the only people there. The bassist got on the floor and played facing the stage and the band, then they took requests from us. We had a great time, but you really feel bad for a band when no one comes out.

He was still playing when I left. But I had heard enough. He talked more then he played with he fake jamaican accent. I just hate that kind of music live. Or not live. I just hate it period. He needs to hawk that freakin lugi or whatever it is in his throat before he sings. Anyways, the whole night of suck wasn't just Shaggys fault. He topped it off though.

You know, I haven't heard them- but I was interested for the same Kindercore reason as you. I looked on the Kindercore sight for MP3's but since I'm at work I can't download them anywho. But, I have been informed by a friend (he is in Black Soul Choir-one of the opening bands) that I will be in attendance! So, if you don't go...I'll let you know how they were.

We left during Arrested Development, after they played TN and the always necessary Bob Marley cover. DitD sucked. Fuck it up it's stupid asshole.

Afterwards though, drunken madness ensued...
Wilson: Liberation Now! (in reference to freeing the soap)
Wilson: This shit tastes like soap (in reference to licking soap).
Wilson: Then I was like, bitch, you're a fucking rug! Who the fuck do you think you are?!
Wilson: I'm just a tape player. I'm a little bitch. I just play fucking tapes. My life fucking sucks.
Wilson: I can't wash my hands! The joke's on me bitch!

And many, many more...as a few of our members could attest.

At least then it would be ROCK N ROLL!

Maybe the heroin that caused him to lose all that weight will suffice to keep him rocking.

I want to go but I cant get in being 16 and all, even if my dad took me, the slow bar people are idiots and dont let anyone underage in.
Hey Hey Hey. These "slow bar idiots" are my buds after 5/2. They may act all tough and strict but they are too nice to turn people away. Or maybe I'm just super charming. No, its the first one.

I believe I saw the members and manager(s) of "DND" shopping for clothing at the Gallatin Goodwill today. Just thought I'd mention that...
But what will happen to the boy when the circus comes to town?

Yeah. Actually the only reason I even went out there to try to get in was because you were like "Hey guys, I might be there tonite.." and I was like "Well if hes trying I should" and then I went into this whole fate thing since I missed the bus to Atlanta and.. yeah. Yeah I got in.

Yeah, they had (mostly) matching shirts and suits last night that obviously weren't brand new. Man, could they be any more annoying? smile.gif

In all seriousness, great friggin show! I was glad to get some "I Wanna Be Your Man" (no, this is not a cover song). Did they cover a Belle and Sebastian song? I noticed they played one song the Bowlies went apeshit over that I've never heard before. Anyway, it sounded pretty good. The CD is top-notch as well.

That was a B&S song - "She's Losin' It"

I can't believe the show sold out... Grimey was at the front turning people away.

Did anyone get one of the individualized shirts? They are so great!

I knew it! Thanks.

I can believe it. Nashville loves the band-- even if that one dude is annoying as hell.

Yeah, I got one, thanks to a very nice and helpful young lady who helped me find one that wasn't pink and XS.

It was a very huge ordeal for me when X-Men opened on the same day that the Features were playing. I think that the only other entertainment that could have swayed me from a Features show was the Buffy finale on the 20th...

Until the Features play again, you can call me De YaDa Dahl.

I wasn't blown away by the show, but I still really enjoy this band. It's the most polished show on the local scene that I have ever encountered. It may be a little too polished. I liked what I heard, though I didn't stay for their whole set.

I like the EP a lot as I have given it a few listens already.
I hope to be better prepared to see it and get into it when they play next.

My enjoyment of the show was hampered by the fact that we were at the very, very back of the Slow bar and couldn't see a thing. Also, we ran into a friend from college and had to catch up with him a lot.

I have really enjoyed listening to DND's EP today. Very good stuff. And I love the stripes.

I wore my shirt today, and some guy in the checkout line at the grocery store asked "Is that the shirt from the movie?" and I said "No, it's a band - is there a movie with that name?" and he said "Uh, I don't know, it just looks like a shirt from a movie" and stared at it. Strange indeed! blink.gif

That was smart to leave early. Oh well. I'm looking forward to Blues Traveler next time though.
After what happened last year, i hate them. But don't let me spoil your fun.... I'm just sayin'.
They were bastards for burning down that factory/plant. John Popper is a sellout for losing weight. I know exactly what you mean.
Yeah. No one should lose weight...ever. He should have stayed obeise and died at an early age. smile.gif
At least then it would be ROCK N ROLL!

Maybe the heroin that caused him to lose all that weight will suffice to keep him rocking.
By the way...the sell-out thing was a joke, for those of you that would think someone is stupid enough to actually have that opinion. Or, maybe you were being sarcastic as well. In which case, I apologize for this. And, you're right Carl, that was Cake. Sorry about that.

I thought the DND show was great! I liked their matching shirts, and I thought it was cool that they did a B & S song since the Bowlies were in town from freakin' everywhere. Nice job guys and gal...and I love my handmade shirt! I'm actually wearing it right now.

i must agree---the show was ......excellent (and i'm upset that i don't have a better word to use right now). the song that derek and serai did was awesome, and i'm glad that after a few tries at it, the audience could finally hear what was being said, well, for the most part. i also am enjoying my 2 shirts and of course, my ep. can't wait till the one in memphis this saturday.

i can't make it this year, but I did go last year- and I remember thinking it was a tiny crowd. I actually was disappointed- the girl was singing out of tune most of the time & I had to stuff napkins in my ears because it was so loud. I think I actually sat at a table with jamiecarroll, although it was before we were acquainted. I just knew he was that tall & nice bass player from My Tyger.

Ha- the best way to name drop is to have other people do it for you ; ) I'm surprised you remember because I don't think we had been introduced, but I could be wrong. I just remember feeling like my typical nerdy self for "knowing" who you were even though we hadn't met : )

Well that was back when I was trying to run away from my past and "find myself". Were you at the same table? I'm glad we've since been reunited...I really missed you and our sister all those years. Although I'm still pissed that Mom and Dad let you get a PhD and stuck me with a crappy MSN.
